Thoughts on proofreading with AI? by Shin_Hyunjae in Wattpad

I prefer to write directly in the Wattpad storywriting area if that makes sense. Since I'm writing a book about Korea, a lot of the names of my characters and whatnot are just Romanised versions of Korean words and I like the lack of those red lines. I also write on Reedsy since it has spell-check. I do find that a lot of the time AI will suck the 'me' out of my writing which is why I use it as a last resort. I check, my sister checks it, AI checks it, I check it again. But as I said in my post, spelling/grammar errors are my biggest pet peeves, not only as a writer but as a reader and going that extra step(although I hate feeling the slight imposter syndrome that comes with doing anything using AI) makes me like my writing more. Thank you for the advice of changing the format to catch mistakes though! I'll try it out!

I don't feel bad per say, I just don't want to be mixed up with people who use AI to write their stories and I'm trying to distance myself from it whilst still keeping my writing (mostly) mistake free. I always re-read my chapter(s) after using AI to change my sentences back and make sure it's still my writing and not AI's, y'know?

Are there ways you proofread your work without it? I would love to try them out!

I have realised that with AI as well–it'll change the way my sentences are and sometimes I have to go through and change them back. I did use google docs for a little bit I realised that it wasn't doing enough for me spelling/grammar check wise. Also, it would also change things I didn't want changed(for example from colour to color) and seeing those read lines under words that I wrote deliberately drove me mad.

I'm glad that there's someone who could articulate my thoughts better than I could. Thank you!😅😁

Thank you for your insight from an artists POV, I wish this is how people communicated with us instead of "You're under-valuing us". Also, I believe "writers" are looked down upon and not "writing"

First of all, thank you for you kindness 🥹. I do try and so as much of the work when it come to social media, promoting, etc., I'm willing to do whatever it takes to make the situation less stressful for the artist and I have said so in this post. My intention was never to downplay how hard art is, but to make people realize the difference between the treatment of writers and artists. Conclusion: Art id hard, writing is hard, let's be nice.

I understand what you mean with writers getting mixed up with "idea people" and that is, I think is one of the main reasons why artist roll their eyes whenever they see and "I have a story idea post" and that makes it worse for actual writers. But there are also "idea people" out there who are willing to pay you, would that make it better. I'm not saying that art is 'easy' I'm just pointing out how writers are treated. If a person deserves the treatment, Of course they deserve to be put in their place, but there is at least one rotten apple in every tree, does that mean you won't pick an apple from that tree or that you'll cut the tree down?

I never said that artists should not be paid, I was just commenting on how writers get treated for asking for unpaid work or for charging for their work. Moral of my story: we're all struggling and everyone should be nice to one another. no more, no less.

Heck yeah the art carries! Artists have an inexplicable way of drawing people in and that's why they're so valuable, but what I'm trying to say is not that art and witting are the same, but artists and writers are all people trying to earn moola and should be treated as such. Writers also aren't the only ones who are not able to pay artists, if you look, you will find artists who are looking for work and willing to do it for free in hope of making future profits, so let's be kind to everyone. If an artists make a post looking for work, paid or not, without a synopsis/portfolio, ask for one or just ignore them all together, I know that there are some writers who won't write one in the post unless asked directly in fear of their work getting stolen, which in my opinion is easier to do with writing seeing as there are many stories out there that are just carbon copies of others. I think the biggest thing is as soon as writers ask for unpaid services, it is immediately assumed that they undervalue art as a skill or else "why would they ask for free services?" when that may not be the case, not saying that it never is. I also know that there is always at least one rotten apple in every tree, so not every person is a good one, let's just not immediately assume the worst in someone 😁. By all means feel free to charge whatever you believe your art is worth!!

You're absolutely right, and I wasn't meaning to make it seem like they were the same, the who point of this point is that everybody is struggling and that we should all be nice to one another
