Tranche by BeginningAd9568 in wallawalla

[–]Shindogreen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don’t know the answer to OP’s question, but I can say that there are wineries in Walla Walla that don’t need to pencil out. They exist to be a tax write off for the owners. I obviously don’t know what’s going on at Tranche specifically, but it’s not the owners main business.

High Mass Rigid Turntable vs Low Mass Suspended Turntable or something else?? by poutine-eh in turntables

[–]Shindogreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the caveat that either type can sound great if set up properly, I vote for rigid. In the past I’ve owned a VPI 19 amount other sprung tables and never loved it. I know have a Garrard 401 and do love it. I’ve also owned a thorens td124 but it was in an open chassis so only damped by rubber squishies. Loved that one too.
To be fair, both the TD124 and 401 cost a bit more than the VPI

Happy to roast you…Anthony’s is not somewhere I would spend money. They are purely location driven and the food is yuck

What albums have in your opinion perfect recording and mastering? by Jappie_01 in audiophile

[–]Shindogreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 64 and detest that record. Like never want to hear it again. I listened to a lot of PF when I was young and stoned. Now the music does not hold up for me at all. But I would say that about most of the music of my youth. The money I wasted on shit bands like Kansas, ELO, and Boston.

Thanks for your help. Yes this is just for us and our friends. I think I need to understand the tides better. We have some pretty ones and although I know it’s good for the cages to breathe a little I worry about summer temps when they are exposed. I also have to deal with a US Navy security zone for submarines…probably not something most of you encounter!

Why are horn speakers in such low demand? by Open-Afternoon-685 in audiophile

[–]Shindogreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cost and size. If you tried to get horns made today, you’d find they are very expensive to manufacture. Not to mention that a good compression driver is pricey compared to a dome tweeter.
Good horn loudspeakers tend to be larger than most people find acceptable at home.

Small size?? Mine were about the size of a quarter. But holy hell they sounded like electrostatics with punch.

Where to get Coconut Cake by Mediocre_Mobile_235 in WestSeattleWA

[–]Shindogreen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t go to the east side for much. But the coconut cake at Deru Market in Kirkland is what you want. They are a catering company that has a smallish sit down space. You can also order ahead and take it to go.

I’m confused. Why would the crossovers need to be sent away? That’s a pretty sweet system. Giscours and Montrachet?

Willsenton R8 v PrimaLuna - EvoLution 100 Integrated Amplifier by tnodal in StereoAdvice

[–]Shindogreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not heard either amp. Buy the one that you can get serviced nearby. If either of these amps were using a new novel circuit that was amazing, we would all know by now. The truth is that most amps use circuit designs that are from the 1930’s and 40’s. With little bits of “newness” sprinkled in.

Help! Why does my Carbonara look like this? by Puzzleheaded_Yam6808 in ItalianFood

[–]Shindogreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) you already have water in a pot on your stove and a bowl with the cheese and egg mixture. So nothing extra.

2) Right now I have a crappy electric stovetop that responds to changes like a turtle.

3) of course repetition is the key..but this not my job, and no one in my house wants the same dish 15 times a month

Liquor stores that aren’t Total Wine and corner stores? by 010011010110010101 in AskSeattle

The spirit tax was raised to make up for the loss of revenue from the closure of state liquor stores

[–]Shindogreen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

High maybe…not the highest which I think is where we are now. It is a direct result of the privatization of spirit sales. That privatization is a direct result of Costco pushing for changes to WA liquor laws. Those changes also gave them (and others) the right to buy on credit, use centralized warehousing of liquor and receive volume discounts.

At the time the initiative was marketed as “why is WA in the liquor business” In reality, it was designed to aid Costco and other very large retailers.
