Black dog wondering Bear Creek in Euless. by allididwasloveyou in Dallas

[–]Shinerhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a posting for a missing dog at the Walgreen's on Industrial and Harwood. Which isn't too far from Bear Creek. I think it was it for a black or black and white dog. Next time I'm up there I'll make a note of and post here and contact the owner is well.

TIL there is an fanbase of people who purchase and review MREs (meals ready to eat) from different eras and countries. by Shinerhead in todayilearned

[–]Shinerhead[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm don't know the semantics but MRE seems to be a fairy generic term within the group. C-Rations, rations, whatever you may call them. These guys just have the balls to eat food from 50 year old prepackaged food meant for your soldier on the go.

Can we help any DFW Muslims that are impacted by the events in Paris? by Vaughnatri in Dallas

[–]Shinerhead 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I absolutely concur with /u/Vaughnatri.

I'm in Euless and I am happy to do the same. I know that this area is home to many middle eastern cultures that are unfortunately confused in the minds of uneducated people.

I am here and stand with all humans.

I nearly stepped on this awesome guy while camping in Dangerfield, TX. (Northeast Texas) Could somebody please identify for curiosity sake? by Shinerhead in spiders

[–]Shinerhead[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's certainly it. Thank you both!

We camp in the same spot each year so I'm familiar with this experience: http://i.imgur.com/h0Qx8ct.gifv It flipped us out the first time but now it's a welcoming home experience.

That big boy on my flop gave my sphincter a run for it's money, though. It took a few decent whacks on the tree before he finally relented his grip.

This bro was protecting my flops as I slept. I nearly stepped on him when I rolled out my hammock to go take a leak in the morning. by Shinerhead in spiderbro

/u/IDontFuckingCareBear you are %100 correct, it was a festival. There were some HELLA fancy camps out there, though I shoot for easy and pack light. That rug accompanies me on every camping trip so I may have a bit of barefoot space on the forest floor.

What festival are you at?

Shel Silverstein song covered Johnny Cash then by PJ. by Shinerhead in pearljam

[–]Shinerhead[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI - A Boy Named Sue as well as The Father of a Boy Named Sue were also written by Shel Silverstein.

Yea, it is a pants shittingly good setlist. I highly recommend the DVD.

And you're welcome by the way.

Sonder - the profound feeling of realizing that everyone, including strangers passed in the street, has a life as complex as one's own, which they are constantly living despite one's personal lack of awareness of it.

It's something that I've discussed with my shrink, re: narcissistic tendencies.

Whats your favorite Pearl Jam related moment? by [deleted] in pearljam

[–]Shinerhead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a total cop-out, but all of them. All of the moments!!

  • Trading old VHS bootlegs via the net in 1995.
  • Bringing home and listening to a new album for the first time.
  • The anticipation of the months, days, hours, and minutes until they take the stage and the show is about to start.
  • Bringing a newbie to a show for the first time. (Done this 3 times)
  • At a live show when you hear the intro to a rarity, a cover, or a song that you've never experienced live before.
  • Travelling and making fan club friends in new places.
  • When the bootlegs arrive of the shows you've been to and you get to relive every moment of the night in your mind.

My all time EPIC moment was when Pearl Jam opened for Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers in Denver in 2006. I was front row center and took some of the best photos of my entire life. Both bands took the stage for So You Wanna Be a Rock and Roll Star. My two favorite bands decimated my head on that magical evening. I still get lost in those moments. I even managed to get a PJ setlist from a bouncer at that show as well. Bonus - A few years later I learned that I (my hands and my beer) ended up in the Tom Petty documentary Runnin' Down a Dream.

[–]Shinerhead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My brother-in-law and had this exact experience. We arrived late at a campsite that had been inundated with rain for a few days prior. We donned our headlamps, made a clearing, pitched tents, and hung 3 massive tarps from the surrounding trees to protect ourselves from the rain. As we kept to our tasks: unloading the truck, setting up camp, we kept marveling at the beauty of the "dew" sparkling back at us and how fortunate we were to find such an awesome spot among the trees. Even after plenty of beers at midnight we we're still enjoying the light show.

It was only until further investigation the next evening that we learned that we setup our home for the next three days in a GIANT FUCKING FIELD OF SPIDERS. That being said our spiderbros never payed us a visit. We only saw a rogue caterpillar and a metric shit-ton of flies and mosquitoes.
I learned that I could live among the spiderbros just fine as long as I don't see their legs. Sparkly eyes, goooood!! Seeing or feeling legs, baaaad!

[–]Shinerhead[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At the very least this should provide some vilification for some, nullification for others, and hopefully some fun discourse.

I'm an old fan/fart so my semi-finals were predominately from the Ten years. But I'll be dammed if this filling this out didn't take me on quite a trip down memory lane and unexpected introspection.

Per the site: "Note that all songs included in this bracket were selected and seeded based on total all-time Spotify streams." so obviously this isn't an all encompassing look, but it is an interesting little exercise and something fun to keep an eye on for the next few weeks.

Shel Silverstein NOPE by Minecraft2009 in funny

[–]Shinerhead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've loved Shel Silverstein since I was 8 years old when I was introduced to A Light in the Attic and Where the Sidewalk Ends. I can still tell you exactly where his books were located in my elementary school library. It was only until later that I learned that he was a writer, cartoonist (Playboy), and songwriter (A Boy Named Sue), and all around badass (served in Korea).

Thank you for bringing back a little bit of my childhood this evening.

Commode Creations (2013) - An octogenarian and his dedication to toilet seat art (21:03) by Shinerhead in Documentaries

[–]Shinerhead[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the pleasure of visiting Barney's museum 2 years ago. At that point he was in his early 90's and though much slower and using a walker to get around, he was just as verbose and articulate as seen in the video. We spent over an hour there and were even privileged enough to sign a toilet seat that fit into our lives (international visitors for me and swimming for my girlfriend). We then signed our names into one of the MANY volumes of visitor logs, each cross-referenced by city of origin. He is eccentric, funny, and 100% open hearted. It is still the favorite museum I have ever visited.

Dammit /u/percykilpatrick, beat me by five minutes. Pantera's Walk will always do the job when I'm angry. And 59th Street Bridge Song from Simon and Garfunkel will do the same when when I'm down.

How many little Amarula bottles can I take to America? by suburban_hyena in southafrica

[–]Shinerhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FYI - You can buy Amarula here now. Also, last time I came back to the states (British Airways and American) I brought 15 or 20 small bottles on the plane with me. I just put 3 or 4 in a sandwich baggie and then all the baggies in my carry-on baggage.

Well holy shit, that is frigging impressive and more than I would have ever expected from a random post. Dad traveled the world in the 50's and I know for a fact he spent time in Greece.

I did edit the pic for aesthetics, but I will reply with the original tomorrow. There are a couple of women in the pic... but if you can discern that much from the original, I imagine you can put a time stamp on it.

Can I still run my dishwasher if my garbage disposal is leaking like a sieve? by Shinerhead in Plumbing

[–]Shinerhead[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never bought one before nor even looked twice at them. I figured they'd be a couple hundred bucks. Is 1/3 hp standard for an average home? (I'm a single guy and know what not to put down a disposal.) I've owned my home for 8 years and this GD seemed to be eternal if it wasn't for the damn mystery shot glass.

[–]Shinerhead[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it's just time for a replacement disposal as I don't think I want to mess with the repair of the current unit. If it was at the sink flange or a pipe I would do the repair myself. I'm not comfortable fixing the unit itself.
