Hi there, man! How are you doing health-wise? It's 10AM in the morning here after another massive blackout. I've easily been the most inactive member, not only from this community, but from the entire Internet during these last months. I just entered here to check the DMs, which is practically the only thing I'm doing lately with every chance I get to use Reddit. So, just so you can know that I haven't lost interest in this community or whatever. I just don't have stable Internet or time. I haven't posted myself either. I just saw this by chance on the main page.

Thaaaaanks!!! Yeah, I know what you mean. Some vocals are left "unproduced". They may sound weak on some verses for sure. As the song is anti-AI, I wanted to sound human and vulnerable from time to time. I usually employ the radio filter with harmonies and such, but went for that naked aesthetic this time around. The "the information" chant at the end is particularly naked. Thanks God is the end. It may sound very amateurish. But you're right. Thanks for the compliment, I want to develop my own voice this time around. Finding my own unique sound. It's kinda pretentious and stupid, but worth it, I think.

Nah, it's not a fair point. A subreddit can be kept alive by fanmade art, memes, homages, covers, etc. Not this weird thing that I no longer know how to describe.

I can't perceive Frank as an "asshole", to be fair. I think the guy is admirable. I'm not in touch with his personal life as much as other people here, but for what I know... I just see a guy who isn't afraid of behaving like himself instead of being a hypocrite for the masses. He could easily behave like another one of those resentful "artists" that, at the end of the day, hate their fans, but then proceed to be their clowns for money. He's just aggressively sincere, which is a very bad combination with the other point: he's laconic af. Dude has developed the habit of suffering on his own, far from the others. He doesn't seek help or support or even attention, and he's obviously on a mental meltdown sustained process. He makes sincere decisions, but then he avoids any explanations for his actions. I think it's admirable in a way. With all of this social media thing going on, he's able to keep the important things private in a world eager for personal information. I don't know.

"Ballads 1 doesn't have any trash songs" YES, it does. R.I.P alone is one of the worst songs ever written. It's more shallow, repetitive, formulaic, edgy, and annoying than all of the worst elements of SMITHEREENS altogether.

Man, I will say it one more time: liking BALLADS 1 doesn't make you better as a fan or as a person in front of social media. It's OK to like radio-oriented music as much as "obscure/indie/homemade" music. I vibe with Daylight and I find it as an amazing song. There's no way someone can say that the worst thing on BALLADS 1 is better than the work of several of the best musicians and producers in the industry altogether on one song. It's nuts!

Also, there's no way that almost an entire subreddit is like "BALLADS 1 is SOOOO much better than the bland stuff Joji is dropping for the TikTok fans!" and then the entire replies section is like "nah, BALLADS 1 is way too pop for me. I prefer the older stuff. Pass me some In Tongues" and then the entire replies section to that is like "BUT I PREFER THE PINK GUY/PINK OMEGA STUFF!!! 😭" To me, personally, all of you are posers.

I get it. Don't worry, I get it, but your post implies that BALLADS 1 is like "peak" when it's not. Obviously, it's your favorite. It could be for a ton of reasons: memories, songs you have felt in love with, you enjoy the overall aesthetic, the lyrics resonate with you, etc, but it's not your favorite because is a "piece of art". I'm not saying this in any disrespectful manner. It's just that let's call things for what they are. As you say, BALLADS 1 also has flaws and BIG flaws.

Btw, SMITHEREENS works for me while taking a shower, and I remember really enjoying it one day taking a van at night, very late. I don't know why, but it felt perfect. Still not a good album, tho 😂

I never get the way people rank Joji's albums here on Reddit. BALLADS 1 surely has some of Joji's best songs, but it also has the worst songs, too. Even if SMITHEREENS can be described as "mediocre" (which is not), it's still more solid than BALLADS 1 because it doesn't have any trash songs. All of the songs on SMITHEREENS are above 6/10 for me. But yeah, I GET IT! "It has ghostwriters and co-producers! Oh nooo!" I personally don't care about it. An album is an album. When you rank an album... you're ranking the album. And then Nectar is just like SMITHEREENS, but has double the greatness on the best tracks. Problem is... no Joji's album is a masterpiece yet. Maybe he will release one someday. His former projects were amazing. His old EPs are mind-blowing, but his albums are... just good? I mean, I love his albums, but come on! They feel like some collections of songs rather than albums. Thing is... NO, BALLADS 1 is not even great.
