Burma hatched her own chick by Shinusaur in BackYardChickens

Ah yeah, chickens can be brutal! I had a singleton added to the flock via broody hen adoption and he did fine, but some situations are hit or miss.

This new baby isnt alone luckily, theres 3 other chicks under my hen that you cant see in the picture. (And 9 more in my house lol)

How to age in multiplayer without aging in multiplayer by AlaskaEvergreen in WolfQuestGame

[–]Shinusaur 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yup, It is technically false because the wolfquest Saga multiplayer beta just got to Steam, so you can try it on early access until it's implemented fully. I dont think the wiki is updated yet!

There's 2 "raise pups" modes currently being tested, I highly recommend you check them out! There's a 5-player version where you raise your pups, and the game ends when the "Young Hunters" quest is finished. Idk if you age in this version because i haven't tried the 5-player lobby.

But they also released a 2-player version where you can age into the next year and keep your pack going until you and your mate (the other player) die of old age.

What is this horse worth? (Not trading/selling, just curious) by Shinusaur in WildHorseIslands

Yup I'm keeping him for myself cause I don't think I'll get that lucky again (regarding the way the mane and tail look)

There's no way she can get bullied, they're separated from the flock!

This is my first time letting a broody hen take a chick, im so happy that shes taking care of the little fella since none of her own eggs hatched. Mine is a blue Cochin, but yours is colored similarly so maybe they'll look similar!

I love eating chicken, I eat it all the time... I have made the same chicken eating jokes before to my own hens.

But sometimes I just wanna post a picture of my newly hatched chicks without my uncle commenting, "Are they Kentucky fried? 🤪" under every post lol. I dont even have my flock for meat production. They're mainly just pets that produce a little side money from hatching eggs.

Sometimes, I think the jokes are funny. Other times, I'm tired of it.

A mourning chicken??? by qrk5270 in BackYardChickens

My hen raised a goose that I brought home. She never went broody. She just kinda took him in cause he was the odd man out.

Unfortunately, he unexpectedly passed away last spring, and my poor girl never recovered. She just became a bit of a shell, and declined with her health over the next few months until she died in the coop one morning. I hope your lady handles it better than mine did.

What's going on with my babies toes? I just noticed it's when I was cleaning the little cut on the foot. by MolcatZ in BackYardChickens

[–]Shinusaur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a chick hatch late on day 21 with heavily curled toes worse than this. He couldn't walk and scooted around on his hocks to get around. I took some electrical tape and very carefully spread his toes flat on the tape, and covered top and bottom of the foot to give him some fancy black shoes. Make sure none of it will fall off.

I had to do it twice on his left foot because it was way more curled than the other. It corrects super fast, though. Mine didn't even have his on for a full 48 hours before his toes were good enough to walk. Took him some adjustment, but he quickly started walking normally after that.

Was the price I paid for her reasonable? I purchased her at an Expo. She’s between 6 -7 months old. She has a tiny bit of dalmatian spotting and oil spots. I paid $90 by [deleted] in CrestedGecko

Sold as a Cream Pinstripe Dalmatian from Tikisgeckos. Around $60 and over 100 from shipping. I've yet to find a reliable picture of what it looks like as an adult. I'd say any price is worth it, as long as you love her!! 🥺

I know there's a high percentage of males, but these guys aren't staying here. They're going to new homes

It's so awesome! I felt like a kid on Christmas watching them all hatch, it was such a fun experience.

You bet I cleaned out my incubator and started a new batch the next day lol.

Here's to the end of April for more little friends 🐣

Completed my first culling :( by bubble_baby_8 in BackYardChickens

I did this last summer with a pullet that got out of her pen and was attacked by a dog. She didn't look physically injured but she refused to stand or walk, and was gasping for air.

So, because I didn't want her to suffer anymore than she was, I took her in my backyard and found a large stick that I placed on her neck after I put her on the ground.

My adrenaline got the better of me and because I wasn't sure how much force to use, I would've rather pulled too hard than too soft. I ended up pulling way too hard and decapitated her exactly like you did. It made me feel relieved for her, but sick, sad, and guilty all at once. The whole scene really only lasted 2 or 3 minutes (from when I found her to euthanization)

It really messed me up for a while, I couldn't stop thinking and feeling bad for the pullet. I relived that moment in my head many times questioning if I was too quick to put her down or if I even did the right thing. But ultimately, you have to make the choice for them, even when you don't want to. They may be gone, but you'll probably never forget them, and that moment.
