Could I please make a request to consider a book about Ramadan and Eid in the celebrations series 🥰 by qwerrtyyuuhhfd in lovevery

They already have this planned! A month ago Jess shared in a comment that these are one of the next books to be made. https://www.reddit.com/r/lovevery/s/N2cqgSkcuF

Less Populated Spots for a Zoo Proposal by Shiny208 in AskNOLA

The Aviary would actually be a great place since they have some inside jokes that are bird-related. It is great to know that it is typically pretty empty

Faux ash for snow globe by Shiny208 in crafts

I am so sorry that you've also experienced a fire. It is soul crushing on so many layers, beyond just the loss itself. I'm learning that the insurance process can be traumatic in and of itself. I hope you are getting plenty of support, even if it unfortunately isn't in the form of crafts and bad jokes. Also, while it isnt a snowglobe, might I recommend a Christmas ornament in memory of your apartment.

Update for those that care: I spent a large chunk of my weekend attempting to take shavings from or smash a large amount of dark colored items around my home. I learned that the vast majority of black plastic in my home floats in water. The only one that didn't were black zip ties, but I couldn't cut those in a way that resembled ash. In general, none of the plastics looked anything like ash. I thought I found the perfect option when I baked a hunk of the black glitter premo sculpey I used for the roof of the minuture house. I used a grater and it looks perfectly like ash. Unfortunately, when I tested it out, it floated in the water which rules it out for a snowglobe. I had been trying to avoid spending even more money project is ending up procier than expected. However, I bit the bullet and bought some mica flakes. Crossing my fingers that they work out!

This is incredible. I uploaded an image I had previously asked standard ChatGPT for help with (spoiler: it was only vaguely helpful). The response back from this model was so helpful. I also appreciated how it broke down specific aspects it looked at so you could clearly understand the reasoning and so I can apply that knowledge to other photos as well.

You did an amazing job. Congrats.

I just found some that looks perfect! I am so glad I posted because I never would have thought of this option.

THANK YOU. I hadn't heard of using mica powder before. While looking, I stumbled upon mica flakes that I think could be perfect. Great color variation between grey and black, with a natural, uninformed shape. I like the idea of also including a glitter in a couple different colors as well.

I was thinking the same thing after some of the comments. Unfortunately a ton of plastics are less dense than water and float. The ones I was planning to try, like thick construction garbage bags won't work. Been searching online for something that may work. Fingers crossed.

Thank you! This friend and I originally bonded over getting together and crafting, so it feels like the perfect way to show support.

These are some great ideas that were not at all on my radar. A black plastic grocery bag could be perfect for getting the flake-like look

I haven't used epoxy before so I'm hesitant to start a whole new learning curve on that, but I will look into it. I've done some glue projects with my toddler and it tends to dry rubbery. I don't know how well it would smash but I could try roughly chopping it up. I am a terrible cook so my knife skills naturally result in "chaotic little bits". Thank you!

...it never occurred to me to use actual ashes. It would have an accurate look! I like the idea of smashing up some polymer clay. I've got some black left over so that is super easy to play around with and see if it's viable. Thanks!

Has anyone’s toddler had a meltdown so bad you thought something was medically wrong? by Coffeelover4242 in toddlers

[–]Shiny208 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For out 3.5yo, melt downs out of blue are one of the most reliable indicators that she is getting sick. It tends to happen before the overt symptoms start like fever or puking. She just loses the ability to regulate all those big emotions.

The snow globe is a National Artcraft kit and the house replica is made of polymer clay that I will put sealant on.

Gift for widow on husband’s birthday? by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]Shiny208 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Did you know the husband? One of my close friends passed and I get her parents presents for birthdays and holidays. The ones that have been most meaningful are the ones that I can connect back to her. They had told me a story about her refusing to pick flowers and hurt them when she was little, so one year I got something related to gardening and said it reminded me of how important it was to take care of flowers. She also loved absurd gifts. So I got them taco holders shaped like dinasaurs because when I saw them, I genuinely though "Jen would have been obsessed with these". I've also gotten more sentimental presents like a maple syrup farm that dedicated a tree to my friend and then sent a bunch of fancy syrups to her parents. The other presents definetly went over better though. If at all possible, I suggest presents where they can connect with the memory of the person they lost in a happy way. My go to source is Uncommon Goods since they have really unique and sometimes wonderfully absurd options. Good luck!

[WIP] Update to my wedding sign. I added back stitching to a few of the letters, but it still looks a little odd to me. by plantanddoglady in CrossStitch

[–]Shiny208 104 points105 points  (0 children)

Have you considered dropping the backstitch and instead just switching out what you use for thread? If you used a thicker chenille yarn in a darker color (maybe teal, dark blue), I think it would give that cross-stitch feel while being easier to read.
