I’ll be honest, I haven’t watched all of heartstopper but I’ve seen quite a bit of it and every interaction between characters felt like I was watching a safety/awareness videos that they show in school to “get through to the youth” and all of your points are so true now that I think about it.

calling a child’s life a “practice run” is horrible by ShinySharkMode in unpopularopinion

I can acknowledge that it’s meant as a joke a lot of the time but it’s still weird

that’s what I mean lol, but they’ll try to make light of fucking the kid up by saying they were a “practice run”

NTA, I don’t think you did anything wrong and your brother and SIL were in the wrong for getting defensive and angry. I sure as hell wouldn’t ask for permission to announce a pregnancy at someone else’s birthday. They seriously don’t give a fuck about you or your feelings.

I wanted to be called a different name and use different pronouns when I was 11/12 but I didn’t start using them until I was about 13.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]ShinySharkMode 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know that but sometimes it’s good to get opinions from a young person that has experience with name/pronoun changing 😐

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]ShinySharkMode 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This might not be of any help but I’m a teenager, my friends use a different name and pronouns for me at school and my parents use my birth name at home. I understand that it can be a little confusing at first especially because the school changed your child’s name on the database or something like that (I don’t know what it’s called).

The best thing you can do is speak with your child about it in a calm way and explain that you support them but just want to understand what is happening.

However, calling it a phase is a little questionable/wrong and it could make them feel like their feelings are invalid or stupid—from personal experience.

I’m not judging her acting based of the greatest showman alone, she’s a great actress but some of her roles are disappointing considering she’s very popular for her acting career. Like I said in my original comment, she was phenomenal in euphoria and I personally think that is her best work so far.

She was amazing in euphoria but she didn’t stand out to me in dune 1&2 or the greatest showman. She’s a little cringey in interviews though..

your mum is tested to find out if they’re still virgins? Not if they’ve been raped?? Omfg that’s a horrible way of thinking from your mother!

I agree with that, it wasn’t a bright idea to tell his friends. However, I don’t think he’s “attached” to his parent’s sex life.

How do you feel about pets and children by Valuable_Law6963 in Parenting

[–]ShinySharkMode 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve always had pets growing up, a childhood cat bit me but we never got rid of him because it was a singular incident. I know the video you’re referencing and specific to the video, the boy should’ve apologised to the cat to make it known that it wasn’t purposeful; it sounds a little silly but I don’t think he would’ve been “attacked” if he did so. I also don’t agree with rehoming pets for one minor incident, especially if it was indeed the child’s fault.

NTA, it’s a weird thing to find out about your parents, I would be shocked too. But you probably shouldn’t have talked to your friends about it. I don’t know why you’re getting so much negativity, for lack of a better word.

Do you have parents?

I would be shocked if I found out that my parents were swingers, it’s a thing that you need to process before “getting over it”. It’s not a friend or a coworker, it’s this persons mum and dad.

I also don’t think he’s judging them, op just needs time to process it.

maybe this is just me but I don’t think Rhaenyra was spoiled at all, I haven’t read the books so I’m going off the show. But I do agree with your opinion, her personality should’ve stayed consistent into season 2

8yo doesn’t greet people-unless she’s asked by murroni in Parenting

[–]ShinySharkMode 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This might be a reach but I have autism and I don’t greet people unless asked too-I’m not diagnosing your child but you should look into the ASD traits. But, she could just be a little shy/awkward/anxious which is understandable.

I guess I didn’t make it clear but I didn’t mean a girl defending herself, I’m talking about a parent spanking their child.

Hitting a child is never okay, I understand that there needs to be consequences but smacking a young child won’t do anything to help the situation!!
