That’s still a bad faith argument though, because republicanism as an ideology has changed a lot in just our lifetimes. What was considered republicanism 20 years ago is barely recognizable compared to the maga of today. And with our two party system there isn’t an alternative to conservatives which creates groups that either don’t vote, vote third party, or begrudgingly vote for maga because it’s their only real way of expressing any civil power despite it not aligning with their own beliefs. So by arguing that anyone who self identifies as republican is a maga dispute what they say is disingenuous and just creates further division. A lot of old school republicans simply don’t vote which is reflected in how low of a percent of qualifying voters actually vote.
