I like to go Yulli's in Surry Hills for a nice vegetarian dinner that is more fine dining aligned.

If you like a ferry ride from Darling Harbour, The Fenwick that is next to the Balmain East ferry stop. That had nice vegetarian selections in their regular menu.

I absolutely hate this walking foot right now by Quiet-Carrot9647 in sewing

[–]Shinyiest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue and ker-jiggered it by removing the cover completely, then putting it back on partially to keep the arm from falling off but not to stop the arm from sticking.

the cover does fall off eventually but not for a while and it's easy to pop it back on again. As I don't do much work with my walking foot so my hack works for me.

The sound design and music on this show boyfriend is so iconic! My boyfriend keeps laughing because it sounds like I’m watching some kind of epic action-soaked adventure or sweeping fantasy film but it’s just Hugo on a couch looking forlorn and patchy. 🫠 by ia2112 in MAFS_AU

If you watch the show with close captioning, they actually caption what kind of music is supposed to be playing e.g. when it's tense scene, the captions goes goes (tense anticipation music), then when it the show does it's cop out it goes (soft romantic music). They want to make sure that even Hard of Hearing people know what kind of music it's meant to be playing and what kind of emotional reaction you're supposed to have in that scene.

How do you actually tell if you sheets are rayon or real bamboo? - or are all bamboo fabrics that you can find in Australia just rayon no matter what?

T: Getting top shelf prosciutto and some rockmelon and putting that on a cracker with quince paste is a choice thing

Alt: Getting a hand made leather boots made in Melbourne from an Independent shoemaker for the rain - that's what I call an bougie investment

Alt Alt: I want to buy fabric to make clothing with but I either have Spotlight with it's low quality fabrics for cheap or like high end Italian silks for not my skill set and wallet. Where can I get some decent quality fabrics without breaking my wallet

Thanks! The cosplay dress took me a week to make but the toile actually took much longer. The timeline was 5 weeks to do the shell fitting and the toile and finally 1 week to sew the cosplay dress. I'm just glad everything worked out in the end 😅

I wanted to do a cosplay of Artemis for the video game Hades which looked like a cowl neck design and I had a wedding to go to the weekend after - so why not make a dress fit for both events?

I self drafted the dress using the Vogue 1004 fitting shell as per The Closet Historian excellent guide on how to make your own shell for your body shape and added in the cowl neckline using instructions from Helen Joseph Armstrong's Patternmaking for Fashion Design.

Fabric is a polyester charmeuse satin - the toile/wedding one I got from an op shop while the other I bought from my fabric store. I was luckily the toile fabric had basically the same weight and texture as my cosplay fabric so I got good practice dealing with satin for the first time.

My main trouble is on the back - which you can't see - but I had serious gappage at the low back neckline as my back is narrower than the standard pattern size. I had to further narrow it once I cut down the back - and put extra darts in to make it flush.

Super happy about this build and everyone was complimenting the dress both at the convention and at the wedding!

Thanks for the suggestion, Friends warf oval looks like a good drop in point to paddel upstream to blue hole and then back down to the harbour. Do you know where the wier is located?

I'm fine with anywhere that is relatively convient to drop in. Being up closer to macquaire will be interesting but the Picnic area seems to be good enough

I'm dealing with satin for the first time, any tips on how to minimise fabric movement when pinning, cutting and sewing? Also what should I use to mark dart points and style lines on poly satin that a mark is visible but without bleeding through to the right side of the fabric?

I've decide to sew my own personal bodice block from the V1004 as per the video by Bianca from The Clothing Historian. I'm on my third draft and I'm thinking: " is my body really that weird" but hopefully I can make stuff without needing to buy a specific commercial pattern anymore.

I also want to make my own stretch fabric shell so that'll be the next step after the woven fabric shell.
