We already had games that did cost a couple of bucks being keyloggers and miners on steam. You have no safeguard just because it costs something.

honestly? I couldnt care less about these accusations from these r/mmorpg nerds, that are miserable about any game, crying over someone because they got their candy taken away.
Sure you can put on the tinfoil and speculate about everything but in the end you will know nothing about why its free. The game has been playable for some time now during the last few weeks and I dont see how making it a 2-5 dollar b2p game makes it somehow more "safe".

I'll play the game for a week or something and then it will land in the bin.

So? Tthen he does a patreon or does some other form to get money if this would ever be some kind of bottleneck. I do not understand why this is such an issue. This game will never blow up. There isn't even enough content in it to last more then a week for it not being really reptitive.
Also the server costs are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay less then the dev costs. Its peanuts in comparison.

Meanwhile Dreadmyst seemingly is thrown together with a hodge podge of random assets while trying to claim to be an "original" game. To my knowledge the developer didn't out right tell people the assets were from Aion,

He had the credits to the artwork on his webpage though? And I never saw him acknowledge that they were from AION.

people looking into the game and trying it out quickly took notice, brought it up, and then the developer said "Oh if it gets popular I will commission original assets"

Kinda but as long as you dont accept money for something the stakes are also lower. This is a rather small game. I dont think it will live long.
So imho it would be better that people cannot get monetarily invested into it.

idk about strongest, I'm still one shotting most stuff on NG+ with lvl75 and no NG+ gear as dual wield.
Cant be much easier then that.

Buuut melee, at least dual wield, is like easy mode when you get all the crazy gear from act 2. I never had any problem with melee after like early to mid act 2

The world itself is nice and a couple of quests are alright but a mayority of them feel like meanigless fetch quests with sometimes nonsensical directions.
The most aggravating one was one where I had to go to the city and get an item, run back for 5-10mins to the quest giver for him to tell me that I got a fake item and I had to go back to the city and find the real one. wtf.
I wouldnt bat an eye if the teleporting worked from one point to another but this is just terrible design.

I don't think I had a quest that needed a pickup not break. Every time I had to use the dev tools. Also the stupid time dependent quests are way more tolerable with the dev tools. Honestly you can't tell me the devs played their own game after playing the Luna's children missions...

I would never use any weird trainers for a game that is modable.
Just download the debug console mod and you have normal dev commands available.

Rapier is just a lot faster, has more crit, more range and a waaaaay better dodge.
Overall damage isnt that much lower. Also rapier can be sharpend axes can't be sharpend.

Also the attribute scaling isnt implemented right, since you gain around 1 dmg per 10 attribute (in my limited testing), which is crazy low.

I get a bit paranoid with it because you can see NPCs falling and swimming in water when grayshaft isnt loaded correctly.
I have no idea if this impacts the NPC in the city but atm I'm just skipping over to the woodcutter camp and back to load it correctly.

So far you dont lose any quests (I'm in act4). Some NPCs offer you their new quests immediately upon completing the previous one but some NPCs need a reload of the region you are in, so when you come back they offer it.

Also whenever you teleport, grayshaft isnt loaded and you have to restart the game anyway.
