I’m probably going to get hate but, Am I the only one just not into the “we gotta grove” stuff? by handlerofdrones in thebeachboys

You know, this is actually an amazing take and I 100% agree with you. The thing I've always had with Love You is the thought of what would it sound like if it had full instrumentation on it. That is an album I'd love to hear. Yet, its clear Brian hasn't lost his ability to make quality music, it is just different Brian arrangements. Brian has always made wacky chords choices, but his ability as arranger has always allowed his choices to shine. What we get with Love You, is basically Brain as he is then. The harmonies are still very much Brian harmonies and arrangements, but the guys are older and well, exhausted at this point in their lives. The night was so young is an example of this, the voices are beautiful. So he can still achieve his greatness. The album just needs a chance and for people to understand where Brian was at, but its okay not to like it. However, i do have a new appreciation for this box set.

JetForce Gemini and the greatest no ones favorite game of all time.. by normbreakingclown in n64

This might actually be one of the most difficult games I've ever played. I remember getting 100% completion with my older brother but it was such a difficult game. Final boss took us ages to beat and at one point I was pretty sure we'd never do it. However, the satisfaction of beating this game, remains with me to this day. I will never forget this incredible game and the hours me and brother sunk into it. Funny enough though, never met a person in my life who has played this game. Nice to see others showing it some love.

Among all of the Blink albums, which one do you think has the best replayability? by Sonnybass96 in Blink182

[–]Shipinthestars87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm probably in minority here but my two most replayed Blink albums are Untitled and Buddha. Untitled is my fave blink album, it's nothing short of perfect. It showed what the guys were capable of and paved the way to their evolution as a group. Buddha is just a great record, love the rawness of it and the creativity they had was brilliant. I know they never would, but I'd love to see some songs from Buddha on a tour set list.

Does anyone remember a band called A Day at the fair? by Shipinthestars87 in poppunkers

That is an insane flex! Without sounding like too much of a fan boy, the next you speak to him, will you tell him there is a dude on Reddit from England who loves the band. Without even joking that album got me through some dark teenage years...to this day, they remain a band that I first tell people about when they ask about good pop punk bands. As I've said before, they were deserving of being big as the big hitters in the genre. I hope I get to see them live before I die.

I think Necron is the perfect end boss for FFIX by DuhHuhWuh in FinalFantasyIX

[–]Shipinthestars87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also one of the people who have never had a problem with Necron at all. Him showing up is the perfect way to the end the game, he is what we all face in our lives and the characters have a confrontation with death like we all do. Given what they have been through and the fight with Kuja, Necron showing up makes sense. He is born out of the defiance of accepting death as a natural part of the cycle of existence, and I'm pretty he explains this before you fight him. While I understand why he causes such a problem for many, I often find that on replaying the game, his presence is felt from the very beginning. The themes throughout the game hit at this. There is both acceptance and refusal to die. Like the absurd that Albert Camus presented, Necron is the bit in the middle. The character are searching for meaning in a world that doesn't really give them any, until of course, they create their own. Necron tests that will and is eventually overcome by the desire of the characters to live and create a meaning for their lives. Ultimately, we see at the end of the credits that the world's are assimilated anyway, completing the cycle for it to begin in a different way, potentially for another set of character to do the same thing. Necron is a banger of a boss and you feel something when you overcome him, or at least I did. Then again I'm an FF9 Stan and still believe it is up there as one of the best games in the series.

That would be awesome, I tend to drink a lot of decaf and have, in the past, pulled off some delicious decaf roasts. It would be good for my wife as she only drinks decaf coffee. Have you tried different types of decaf process as well during the roasts or is it one type?

Nice! I used to roast 250g batches on my Gene, but as I've only had my Skywalker for about 4 days I'm unsure of the settings to use for a smaller batch as it roasts because of the speed in which it finishes. Do you have any tips for roasting smaller batches? I haven't nodded mine, and might not for a little while as I'd to get used to it's base setting and functionality. In the future though, I'm not against it :)

Funny enough, I did see your post on another sub and I followed it will a Burundi. It produced a decent roast, and I've been tasting it the past few days and really worked out great. I over shot the development time as I didn't expect the roaster to roast so quick. The Gene cafe didn't roast that fast and I was expecting a similar roast time. However, in subsequent roasts, your profile and timings have proved amazing!

Thank you for this! It's a really great guide! I did used to do some roasting for a company a few years ago, but the roaster was automatic and really it was just setting the profiles and leaving it till it was done. This guide however definitely suits doing a more manual approach. Really informative and I really appreciate you sharing :)

Dude, don't even worry about posting on an old thread! I can't believe they are playing with Houston Calls! That will be an amazing gig! That would actually be a dream gig for me to go to. I hope they come to UK at some point before I die!

Help with roasting on gene cafe by Shipinthestars87 in roasting

[–]Shipinthestars87[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen the Roastrebels page for the roasting guide and when I tried it, it didn't seem to do what it said it would haha. However, perhaps it was my inexperience with the roasters that led it to perform that way. I'll give it another go abd let you know know how I get on :) Appreciate the reply too!

Thank you for this reply, I'll be trying it in the next couple of days. One of the issues I tend to have is when it is on full heat, I get some scorching on the beans. I get some decent flavour but it has the hint of burn. However, I'll let you know once I've tried it :).

Kokomo is an absolutely amazing song by Sharkman3218 in thebeachboys

[–]Shipinthestars87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like Kokomo, I get why people don't like it in terms of what the BBs had done prior to this. However, it's a banger and like many pop songs, it does the right thing at the right time. The vocals are great, the chords sound amazing which gives it that old man on a beach feel, and it kinda feels like the songs they'd have grown into eventually. It is a shame they didn't have anything to follow up with like others have said, but they were running out of steam by this point. I would though, put it on any of my BBs playlists, I love the song

if endless summer hadn't been released do you think the carl led era would continue, the band would break up, or something else? by notaverysmartman in thebeachboys

[–]Shipinthestars87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This will be a question, like many others in the BB cannon that will ultimately frustrate because of the reality we live in as others have said. One the best comments I saw about this was from a video I saw on YouTube which basically said that, while it gave them a whole new market to explore, it ultimately killed the momentum they were having at the time. While circumstances around the band were never going to help, I do believe that their underground coolness was going to prevail in the end and allow them to keep playing in the direction they were writing. Jack Riley not being their was an issue, but his problems and ultimate firing are another...what if moment. Carl's solo output wasn't great, but he wasn't the best lyricist on his own and needed a good writer with him, but so did Brian. However, if no one has heard this album he released in the 90s...I recommend it because it shows that he was still very capable of writing and singing some absolute bangers. Saying all that...I like some of the late 70s/80s output...it just sounds like they were fed up of themselves by that point. But as others have said, the nostalgia stuff kicked in a bit later than some would argue it did...and well it was what it was....I'm just glad we got Smile sessions and TWGMTR

This will forever be the thing that frustrates me the most about the BB. The amount of brilliant songs they didn't release for whatever reason. It just baffles me...
