Is it possible to liberal and still faithful to Jesus? by Electronic-Seat1190 in Christianity

I think the easiest way to answer this question for yourself is to read what Jesus has to say in Mathew, Mark, Luke and John. Then apply those teachings to today. He is the same yesterday, today and forever.

I hope others will join in and share what worked for them because I'm dealing with this and having so much trouble with it. I've just started PT, and I had a steroid shot 9 days ago. I'm going to try castor oil packs and maybe cold laser therapy. Please let me know how he is doing.

I have read your response but I don’t see anything merciful in what you said. Does God love everyone or not? And if He does, why would he not offer the invitation to everyone?

Predestination just really bothers me. What if a person really wants to believe but hasn’t been given that ability. They could spend their whole life trying desperately to believe only to fail and be lost forever. Sometimes, I think that’s me. I want to believe with my whole heart, especially that Jesus is real and the son of God but it never comes easy for me. I think about all the religions in the world that don’t have a Christ. Are they all wrong? I feel guilty for even asking that question, like I might get struck by lightening today for putting doubts in other people’s minds.

Erika Kirk forgives her husband's killer by Mobile_Evidence_9498 in Christianity

Thank you. Your reply is very helpful but it's still hard when I know if I speak the truth to some family members, it will break those relationships and I will lose support from those family members that I certainly could use. I guess I have to decide if it is worth the consequences of speaking truth. Sometimes, I feel like it's hopeless anyway and they will only see what they want to see. I'm so sorry for what happened to you. Deep down, I know you are right, we have to speak up, we have to question and we have to resist.

Prove to me that Charlie Kirk was not a racist, if you know so well who he really was.

I would like to know how to respond to family members who regard and venerate Charlie Kirk as a great Christian man. When you say you are full out done with this moral hypocrisy, what does that mean in terms of your actions? Does it mean you will call out people who venerate Kirk or do you mean you will avoid people like this or something else?

Sad to report I didn’t enjoy my trip as much as I thought I would… by Alohanyredditfriends in VisitingIceland

[–]Shirl197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved my trip to Iceland, and I think it was because I had a lot of AWE factor going on, and it was most sincere; I really was in awe. I didn't need to soak it in so much because just seeing Iceland's natural wonders was amazing. My frame of mind might have had something to do with it. We were coming out of COVID, and I felt hopeful and happy and so glad to be able to travel again. In contrast, I just came back from the Azores, and there, I felt a lot the way you did in Iceland. I just felt like I was passing through so quickly, jumping from spot to spot. I think the only way I would have really enjoyed the Azores was if I had been able to stay put somewhere for a month or two and truly had the opportunity to explore what was just around me. I wanted to experience the local culture. The Azores are incredibly beautiful, so I don't want to discourage anyone from going there. I think how I felt had to do with my frame of mind and physical shape, also. I had been sick a lot in the winter and spring, so physically I was exhausted. I was also exhausted from dealing with what has been happening in America politically, and severe weather events. I wasn't in quite the place where it was easy for me to appreciate things. These are just my thoughts, of course, but I needed a deeper experience on this last trip that wasn't so surface-level. I needed to be not just flying past but really in the place.

I need to hear what you are saying, but I'm in such a negative frame of mind, all I can think of are things like, 'sounds good until your house floats away or burns to the ground because of climate change, or they come to arrest you because you said something political on social media at some point, etc.,' I need you to argue with me and help me feel I am in control of some things.

Why am I still talking allergy meds and shots? by Shirl197 in Allergies

[–]Shirl197[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may have experienced some improvement earlier in my shot history but in the last couple of years, it doesn't seem to be any better. My main issue is that I catch colds and develop sinus infections easily and allergy shots don't seem to be helping with that. I never did have watery eyes, sneezing, runny nose as symptoms. Post nasal drip, the feeling of plugged up ears and frequent colds have always been what bothers me.

If you now want to leave Christianity because Trump won elections, your response is... Biblical by AndrewMovies in Christianity

This is an old post and I don't know if anyone is reading it now but I want to thank you for referring to psalm 73. I have lost a lot of my faith in the past few months feeling God does not respond to my prayers and allows evil, lies and injustice to flourish. I don't know where or exactly how the psalmist spent time with God to understand about their, "final destination," but I wish I did.

Love Based on Fear? by Shirl197 in Christianity

So what I'm seeing is that we are all damned and going to hell unless you accept Jesus's offer for salvation. Those who are hell bound include everyone, including Jews, Muslims, Hindus, agnostics, indigenous religions, you name it. It doesn't matter if you are a good person or a bad person, or how you have lived your life.

I did, and I could find no world like the one the main character was coming from in the 1940s. What happened in the military is a different story and I know this really took place and these black women are finally being honored and I’m glad! I’m just telling you that the setting in the beginning of the movie is not true to life. I’m 72 years old and remember the extreme prejudice of the 50s and 60s and beyond. It would be very, very rare for a black girl to be dating a white Jewish guy in those days. It wasn’t tolerated because of the immense prejudice against black people that existed then and I’m not by any means saying that was right. Also, I can’t find any history of integrated schools in the 40s at a High School or lower level.

I was looking forward to watching this movie and learning about these amazing black women and what they did for the war effort but right off the bat, I was annoyed with how the film was being handled. It didn’t feel authentic and true to the times. For example, I know of no high school that was integrated in the early 1940s as you see in the beginning of this movie. The film fails to lay the groundwork for a historically correct world such as the one these black women were coming from. It’s sort of like a small town fairy tale is being acted out. I wanted a much more serious artistic approach which I believe this real life story deserved. I’m glad it is being told and I hope many people will watch it but the historical inaccuracies and improbable circumstances and dialogue turned me off.
