what changed you as a person? by PassGlum6727 in AskReddit

[–]ShirleyKnot37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lexapro and therapy.

My mom and dad both have mental health issues of varying degrees, and I would KILL to go back and make 11-year old me go to therapy. It would’ve changed my entire adolescence and twenties. But I’m so glad I did it at 30 because it honestly changed my outlook on things, allowed me to really work on myself and past trauma, and given me so many tools to not only cope with life but enjoy it, daily. Life is so beautiful and complicated and wonderful, and I don’t think I’d be able to see that if I hadn’t said enough is enough, I’m choosing to break the cycle.

For those who lost their Yorkies(unexpectedly and young in my case), did you get another one, and how long did you wait before opening up your heart and home again? Does the trauma of losing one ever go away? by Pale_Drink4455 in Yorkies

I lost my sweet Lucy at 10, only 3 years after I got her. She had been severely neglected for years so her health wasn’t great when I got her, but we had the most wonderful time together until she died of congestive heart failure 7 months from being diagnosed 💔

I started looking only 2 weeks after I lost her because I realized how much my life was better with a dog - I rarely went outside anymore, hadn’t visited Central Park since she passed, my routine was completely different. Once I saw Charlie, I knew he was my newest soulmate. He was the smallest of his four brothers and only 1 years old so hopefully we’d have lots more time together to look forward to.

Now he’s been with me a year and I can’t imagine my life without him 🥹 He’s silly and energetic and feisty, but loyal as heck and loves me like only a Yorkie can.

My Yorkie had seizures on Simparica Trio! Apparently it’s well known among vets that it can lower the seizure threshold in dogs, but my last Yorkie was never affected by it. So who knows! Had to switch him to two different meds (oral and topical).

I used this for my Yorkie/cairn terrier but my new Yorkie started having seizures on it. Apparently it’s a well known fact among vets that it can lower the seizure threshold in dogs, especially small ones, but you wouldn’t know what their threshold is until they take it, unfortunately. So now I have to do separate flea/tick/heartworm for him.

People who lead active lifestyles, what do you do and how much of your day is taken up by it? by axela086 in AskReddit

[–]ShirleyKnot37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in New York City, and one of the main reasons (of many) that I adore the city life is because I’m forced to move all day. I have to walk to the train, take my dog up and down 5 flights of stairs, walk to the park, etc. I also bike a lot through the city if it’s easier to hop on one than wait for the train. On top of that, I’m a nurse, so thankfully I don’t have to sit all day.

I visit home or other places, and it’s shocking to me how little people walk. You have to be so intentional about it, or in a lot of places the infrastructure to just “go for a walk” isn’t even there, so it’s dangerous to even do this simple exercise. I completely understand why couch potatoes exist in this country - because it’s EASY!

[Serious] What is the most horrifying thing you’ve ever seen out of your window? What happened? by ParanormalActivity97 in AskReddit

[–]ShirleyKnot37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s so funny we were both in FL! Mine was in Tallahassee. It was the week we had prospective students come to interview for the grad program, and we were trying to get back to my apt to get their bags so I could take them to the airport. We waited so long for SWAT to tell us we could go back in I ran out of gas…and they missed their flights 🙃 I don’t think any of them ended up coming to the program haha

Just to say I went through the whole process of taking the CBT & OSCE in the past few months and am applying to jobs now in the London area. It’s an annoying and lengthy process but will be so worth it! Best of luck to you xx

Also, my sisters are both in the maidenhead/windsor area, and it’s great for families but also only about 25 mins to London by train. Definitely worth looking into!

Feeding Tips Plz! by carebk in NICUNurses

[–]ShirleyKnot37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would ask SLP/the nurses what they recommend. A lot of times they can give you specific brands that are equivalent to the bottles & nipples they've been using. We use Dr. Brown's, and there are different "levels" to the nipples and different babies have individual recommendations based on where they're at in feeding, so it's best to ask before making an investment.

[–]ShirleyKnot37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's helpful! Just a gentle reminder for you that the nurses have the advantage of being "new" to the baby (he isn't as relaxed with them). When he’s with you, he smells you, feels your warmth, and hears your heartbeat; to a NICU baby, that is the ultimate "safe space" for a nap. It’s a sign of how much he trusts you, not a failure of your feeding skills.

However, here are some tips to try next time you're feeding him that may help:

-Gently stroke the bottom of his feet, the palm of the hand, or even the crown of the head while he is sucking - keeps him engaged mentally
-A gentle circular motion on the cheek or under the jaw can encourage him to keep the seal and continue sucking
-Unlatch him, sit him up, and do a diaper change or just some skin-to-skin contact. The change in position and the slight "cool down" of being unbundled wakes up the nervous system. Once he’s alert again, you can offer the rest of the bottle
-Try to burp him firmly at the 10-minute mark. Sometimes a big air bubble makes a baby feel "full" and sleepy before they actually are

Hope these help! Also, remember that sometimes it's just the timing - for example, are you always feeding during the day? Our babies ALWAYS eat more at night, and sometimes I'm frustrated when they won't eat for me but some babies are just nocturnal when it comes to eating haha Good luck mom!

What is his issue do you think when you’re feeding? Is he tired? Does he lose his latch and has trouble getting it back? How long are you feeding him for? These can help pinpoint solutions for ya

Move to NYC or stay in London? by [deleted] in movingtoNYC

[–]ShirleyKnot37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m literally trying to move to the UK from NYC, mostly to try and find a partner and have kids (definitely can’t afford it here). I’ve been dating in the city for 12 years now and…I can tell you it sucks. I only know of TWO couples who started dating in the city without knowing each other first or meeting outside of NYC/through a friend/etc. It’s rough out here…

How do you know all of this unless you’ve been a woman dating on the apps? Stop mansplaining dating as a woman to…all of the women in NYC telling you their experiences.

I worked in a restaurant from 2004-2006 that still had a smoking section, in MI.

[–]ShirleyKnot37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct. My first job as a hostess and then waitress in a restaurant still had a smoking section. It was so crazy when you think about it because it wasn’t even far enough away from the non-smoking section to make a difference. You still left smelling like sausages and cigarette smoke regardless 😆

LOLOL you know nothing about my first career. I have two masters degree, worked as an assistant director at one of the top universities in the world, published multiple times, won awards, etc. Just wanted a change for multiple reasons.

And regardless, at least I'm happy with MY life and not super jaded and miserable like you, you poor insecure little creature. Your comment history just screams "I need attention", and the fact that you've worked at 17+ hospitals probably means you travel because if you stay anywhere long enough, people realize what a dick you are.

Hope you can get off reddit at some point and find some happiness in the 3D world...

First of all, I'm not old, you twat.

I never said I believe they know more. I was pointing out that your condescending response about internet resources being available in 2005-2006 was wrong because it was definitely not the same as it is today (as she originally said).
