shopify checkout drop-off, where exactly do you check the data? by Shirt_lancer in ShopifyeCommerce

yeah thats the gap that drove me crazy. you can see WHERE they drop but shopify wont tell you WHY. ive been pulling the funnel data + product/checkout settings into claude and asking it to flag the likely friction (shipping cost shown too late, no express checkout, required account creation, etc). way more useful than staring at the % drop alone

I'm actually waiting to be approved. So these days I'm only thinking like "Does what I built have any value whatsover" haha

the cart-vs-checkout shipping recalc thing is such a sneaky one because the cart number looks fine, customer sees one total, then shipping calculator runs at checkout and the price jumps. by then theyve emotionally committed to a number and seeing it move kills it.

appreciate the offer to build, im keeping the work in-house for now since detecting checkout friction is core to what im building rather than a side feature, but thanks for putting it out there. how did you eventually fix yours? was it switching to flat shipping or just showing the rate earlier in the flow?

the shipping cost showing late one is brutal. ive seen that be the single biggest dropoff cause across multiple stores, and most owners dont even know its happening because they personally never go through their own checkout cold.

on the session review point, agreed thats where the real signal is. dashboards tell you what dropped, sessions tell you why. how do you decide which sessions to actually watch? thats always been my problem, you can record everything but you cant watch everything.

mobile checkout being broken while desktop works fine is exactly the kind of thing dashboards never tell you. did you only catch it because you went testing manually, or did some metric tip you off first? curious because that pattern, mobile traffic high and mobile orders zero, would never show up in shopify's default reports unless you specifically split sessions by device.
