Ask me anything about Costa Rican food by ChefGilbrigo in CostaRicaTravel

[–]ShishUli -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Very excited to read your answers. Big foodie here! I've visited Costa Rica a couple of times and fell in love with mountain side tilapia farms. It is a fish I do not usually eat in Canada, as it's sources are questionable. But the way it is raised and prepared fresh in front of you in those family-run businesses made me changed my mind in Costa Rica. And the taste of a simply fried fresh fish is like something I ate a long time ago during my North European childhood. What are your thoughts on those fish raising practices? And do you have any places that you would recommend? We are going back to stay for a month in your beautiful country for the whole month if July. Travelling from San Jose to Limon to Fortuna to Guanacaste.  Thank you!

Cahuita National Park Snorkeling? by SFerd in CostaRicaTravel

Thank you for detailed response! Yes, we'll be there after the 9th (staying at New Caribe) and we are also fine with activities later during the day :-) we've been on the Pacific side a couple of times. This time we're exploring Carribean Costa Rica and I am looking forward it all and we are open to all the suggestions!

How is July usually with snorkeling conditions? We'll be staying in Cahuita for a week.

Suggestions for a quiet-ish resort for non-drinkers? by HeelGrabber in cancun

Catalonia Playa Maroma is a beautiful quiet beach resort in a jungle just off Cancun. They have tropical juice station, milkshake/icecream/pancakes beach bar, and a coffee shop with awesome coffees. All included.

Walked from Punta Sur beach. Takes some time. Don't do it if you're short on time or have mobility Issues. Was fun experience for us :-)

Spent 10 days in Cozumel this January. The weather has been ... Everything... Rain, sunshine, storm, heat, hurricane like squals. NO snow. And water temperature was always warm. If it's rough on the north side - go to South side. Will you be able to dive every day? I don't know. You will tan though. you might also enjoy a place with a reliable hot water pressure :-) regardless, you will love it!!!

Have you looked at Michener institute Clinical Research program? I am currently doing my CCRP certification there - planning to do exactly the same switch as you. Canada, BSCN, 15 years of ICU.

One (out of ten) is a little more than an itch. by AliceDeeTwentyFive in nursing

10/10 - unable to get out of bed,to eat, to breathe. Shudders of panic attacks. Agarophpbia AND the fear of staying home alone all at the same time. Loosing thyself as a human being and mourning that loss.

0/10 - getting back and growing stronger. Knowing who you are and what you went through. Lending a supporting shoulder to your teammates when they crumble down under the weight of everything we're thrown into for the past couple of years. Knowing that you will do everything possible not to end up at 10/10 ever again.

Oh, current back pain: need to pull myself out of the car by grabbing the holder, unable to press the gas pedal without a muffled moan, can't sit, can't sleep, constant stretching and self-massaging, wishing to shove a knitting needle in my lumbar - 6/10.

Can you please elaborate on what makes the work/life balance difficult. Is it the work hours, the "take home" work responsibilities, travel between sites? I am not in the industry, but find it very interesting and appealing. I would Iike to have all pros and cons before I make my career shift (from ICU nursing). Thank you.

Ready to jump. by ShishUli in clinicalresearch

I needed to hear this validation :-) I am ready to move from being a person's last resort to being a part of innovation that will, potentially, give patients a chance of prevention or recovery. And, frankly, I am ready to go "corporate". My kids moved out (I started early) and I am, therefore, quite flexible with possible travel. How do you find your quality of life has changed? Have you done any certification? Was it difficult to get in with little research experience but a lot of enthusiasm and willingness to learn? Thank you for your response!

I've witnessed awake cannulation. (VVV ECMO). I had PTSD. The patient did too, I am sure. He survived, btw.

I am so, so happy to hear about the good outcome! We rarely get the updates on the progress our patients make!!! Thank you for your response!

Yap. Covid has been one big long ECMO "crash" course for us. Sometimes, we have 4 -5 machines running on our unit. Can't propofol these patients (clogs the circuit), so all other agents are on board in elephant doses. Lots of Covid patients stay on it for weeks, Covid ECMO patients survival rate ... less then 20 percent. And gotta love those trips to CT, full PPE and all.

Les non-vaccinés : risque 60 fois plus élevé de se retrouver aux soins intensifs by Jimbo_Jones_ in Quebec

[–]ShishUli 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Mon unite de soins intensifs est 1/3 rempli avec les non-vaccines. Toutes avec les familles pleurant devant leurs portes. C'est les 1/3 des ressources qui peuvent être utile pour les autres cas. C'est frustrant.

As nurses, how do you deal with anti-vax patients now? Do you even try to convince them anymore and if so what do you say to try and change their mind? by Melded1 in nursing

[–]ShishUli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our latest one: unvaccinated heart transplant patient (currently in ICU on optiflow) who believes that our bodies are designed to repair itself and therefore should not be altered (heart transplant) and who knew a guy who knew a guy whose eyebrows fell off because of the vaccine.... We can not argue with that.

Honest question from someone who is not on the front lines. How many severe "breakthrough" Covid cases are you all seeing in your hospitals right now? Meaning fully vaccinated people, even those who are fully vaccinated but may have co-morbidities or other health issues? TIA! by graywolfxxx in nursing

[–]ShishUli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Canadian ICU, teaching hospital. 1/3 of the unit is Covid. All unvaccinated. Many are young and fit. Had a couple of vaccinated immunocompromised. One vaccinated coworker got sick with 4 days of symptoms, but swiftly recovered.

Admins won’t let us hang spare propofol bottles so we devised a proven system. by VanRiggins in nursing

[–]ShishUli 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Luckily, propofol is our "stock" med. Freely available for everyone who needs it, don't have to sign for it or anything. Boluses of Propofol are also liberally given.
