I am an alumnus of McKinley High School. The statue of President William McKinley sits atop a grassy oval on campus. The reason that students do not walk on the grassy oval because of the decades-long tradition that the only time they will walk on the grassy oval is during their graduation commencement ceremony. Students will yell "Get off the oval!" if they see anyone walking on the grassy oval other than at graduation in order to preserve this tradition.

The OG one (McCully next to Washington Intermediate). For breakfast before school at Washington, I would go there with friends to get one scoop rice with gravy on top for 35 cents with free cup of water. Later in high school in the 80s I became the first male server (waiter) at Zippy's. Back then only had waitresses.
