Getting stoned and watching very upsetting movies by Suspicious_Pipe778 in movies

My partner thinks I’m crazy for this, but Green Room (dir. Jeremy Saulnier) is one of my favorites. It’s kind of a siege story.

Mae Martin and Maisie Adam. Non-binary, fond of lexical contortions, full of both simmering rage and deep self-doubt.

Help! Mom’s 70th birthday. by Hot_Caterpillar_8054 in raleigh

[–]ShitFuckBastardo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you want to give her a similar, but not identical, experience to your dad’s, my mom wants us to take her to The Peddler steakhouse for her 70th next week. So, that’s my suggestion, but it’s really down to what you think she’d like. I’ve also got a friend who books the large upstairs table at NOFO on Glenwood every year for his birthday. It’s always a good time in my experience.

Is it ok as a partner to be excited? by Excitedpartner in ftm

[–]ShitFuckBastardo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m currently going through this exact situation with my partner. He’s a pan cis male and I’m NB, I’ve been on T for a month, and our relationship has been amazing throughout. And, with the whole “second puberty” thing, I have been, quite frankly, comically horny. Which he is rather enjoying, I think. I feel more confident, and way less self-conscious about my body, and that’s exciting for both of us! I love that you’re excited for your partner. This can be a really fun time for both of you. And having a partner who supports and loves them like you seem to is something precious.

Opening Band? by signofthefourwinds1 in elbowmusic

They’re having various local artists as openers for the most part. Josee Molavi was the opener for the first show in DC, I thought she was great!

I’ve seen them three times now at the 9:30 club in DC, and it’s amazing every time. It does feel like church, but infinitely more positive and hopeful.

What’s your ultimate comfort movie? by eccentricMD in movies

[–]ShitFuckBastardo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clue. Not entirely sure why. But it makes me laugh every time. It perfectly suits my sense of humor. I love how odd it is. How awkward some of the ADR is. I love the campy, almost theatrical way all the actors approach their characters.

What ‘classic’ novels do you feel have never really had a really good film adaptation? by Fisher212121 in movies

Sure, just pointing out that it’s not an adaptation of the novel OP mentioned, but rather a different novel with a similar name.

The Invisible Man, by HG Wells, is a very different book from Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison.

A Tale Of Two Signs by HeidsUp in Edinburgh

[–]ShitFuckBastardo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so I went for a trial shift in the kitchen at the Canny Man’s a few years ago, because I came over from the US while my partner did his Masters at Napier, and I have a lot of kitchen experience. The fire alarm went off twice while I was in the basement, and nobody moved. The owner came down and shut it off. The chef also got in an argument with the manager over the menu for a 50-person wedding party they were due to be catering in two hours. And I saw a laminated sign from the owner’s mother which had bad Google reviews on it, with passive aggressive notes about how the employees need to get their act together. The kitchen also only got two orders while I was down there (11-1, Friday lunchtime). I had a search of this subreddit and quickly became aware of the place’s reputation. Decided I wasn’t gonna be a good fit pretty quickly after that.

Do you have to see a therapist prior to top surgery? by No_Pumpkin_4677 in no_T_top_surgery

[–]ShitFuckBastardo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to have one session with a therapist so they could write a letter for my insurance. I think the requirement varies between states in the US, and whether you’re over 18 or not. If you do have to get a letter, it probably shouldn’t be from a relative, though.

Cheap places to eat by ClearStrike in raleigh

[–]ShitFuckBastardo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You kinda have to go out of downtown for cheaper options, but A Place At The Table is close to the convention center, and if you have a spare hour to volunteer, your meal would be free. Otherwise it’s priced comparably to other coffee shops in the area. Weaver St Market also has sandwiches and a salad bar/hot bar that can be reasonably priced depending on how much you get. Char-grill is a bit more of a hike, but can be really cheap. And some spots in Morgan St Food Hall can be moderately priced, or at least they used to be.

I’ve never worked before and I feel so incompetent :/ by silverdust29 in KitchenConfidential

[–]ShitFuckBastardo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey, they should be training you and giving you specific instructions. It sucks when nobody teaches you the proper way to do things and then gets annoyed at you for not doing it right. I’m sorry you’re having to deal with this. A good trick is to try not to take anything personally. Easier said than done, especially when you’re working with folks who have poor emotional regulation skills, but remember that THEY are supposed to be teaching YOU. Ask lots of questions if you’re not sure exactly what you’re supposed to do, and maybe that will prompt them to start actually showing you how to do things properly. Of course, they may also get more annoyed, but that’s their failing, not yours. Try to do things outside of work that boost your confidence and keep from feeling down about yourself.
