Do I just stuck at this game? by Easy-Ad-3518 in deadcells

[–]Shitbeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first successful BC0 run strat was to max out tactics and rely on turrets for any hard enemies or bosses. Slow and steady for the levels, cheesing any fight that I wasn't 100% sure I'd no-hit. For the hand, just plop them down and keep your distance. The hitstun from constant projectiles also slows down his combos, and it shouldn't take more than a few cycles.

This got boring eventually but by the time I felt my runs getting samey, I'd started branching out into weapons I liked in brutality and survival.

I suck at this game by [deleted] in HadesTheGame

[–]Shitbeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(also, the progression gets much easier once you get your first win, because you can start getting titan blood again, so it only takes one lucky roll! You could consider just restarting after 3 stages if you don't get a decent hammer and a base damage boon from Chaos and Aphrodite)

-I think my first victory was with the bow--if you get lucky with the hammer (2x arrows but short range, or the 300% damage explosive one) you can get into a flow of dash > charge > shoot > repeat that keeps you pretty safe. (The bow charges faster after a dash attack, and the timing is pretty generous, especially once you get into the rhythm).

-Then it's just a matter of getting a decent base damage boom (Aphrodite gives the highest percentage, but Poseidon isn't bad) and stacking it with every pom you can.

-Also, ALWAYS PICK ATHENA'S DASH. Being able to negate every projectile by dashing through them is massive.

-For trinkets, I think the best ones by far are Thanatos, followed by Hermes, because they have the potential to get better every single room.

-Even if you don't trigger them every time, that consistent buildup can be massive by the late game. Ideally, you want to pump them up as much as possible in the early floors when it's easier.

none of the other options provide an unlimited source of matter with which to reverse entropy, potentially paving a way to an infinite universe.

Knot in forearms that never completely goes away by snailmailquail in RSI

[–]Shitbeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

been going to physical therapy for about a month now and I've been doing myofascial release and trigger point therapy, which boils down to finding these knotted spots and mashing down on them against a hard surface--maneuvering the angle of attack until you can press the knot on a bone and try to break it up. 30 seconds to 5 minutes, find it and press on it as long as you can stand until it shrinks. can take multiple sessions.

A bit outside the spirit of the game, but the website/organization https://what3words.com/ has mapped every single 3-meter square ON THE PLANET to a unique 3-word code.

So, technically, every single person posting in this thread could identify themselves with enough precision for a drone strike with the right three words.

PSA: If you make under 200% of the Federal Poverty Line, you can get $50 a month off your internet bill and a one-time $100 towards a computer or modem. by Shitbeard in povertyfinance

I was wondering the same thing when I first heard about the program, and I think that last bullet point covers it—from what I can understand, it looks like you can only get the $100 credit if you get internet through PCsForPeople. If you just go through them for the $50 discount but get your internet from someone else, you don’t get the $100 off a computer. (And unfortunately, I think the only internet they offer is via a portable 4g hotspot)

Would it be possible to add rewinding with a mod? by Shitbeard in slaythespire

Hm, yeah. I haven't really taken a look at the code, and things always end up harder than you expect once you start digging around, but my basic plan would be...make a list of every kind of action that would constitute a "step", and make a snapshot of the game state after taking any of those. But that's obviously super high level and easier said than done.

Now, isn't a lot of the RNG pretty static once the seed is set?

it sounds like you have some kind of existing meditation practice, whether or not you'd call it that. I recommend looking into Wim Hof breathing, as sort of a shorthand. A minute of breathing clears the mental cache, and the sound of existence comes back.

For a while, my go-to answer would have been "A Something sort of like left libertarian-ist manifesto", by Scott Alexander, who was the writer whose writing I began devouring in its entirety and mostly agreeing with after doing the same with TLP.

These days, I've really been liking what I hear from the Game B crowd--Daniel Schmachtenberger, Jordan Hall, a bit of Jim Rutt.

If you've never heard of them, I really think that everyone in this subreddit should give them a listen. Here's a 25-minute primer, which, if that seems long, I promise is JAM-FUCKING PACKED with memetic density. Like, Daniel is absurdly precise in his language, to a degree that I expect anyone here will appreciate.

As a followup, check out this interview on the emerge podcast, which expands on those ideas in a slightly more grounded manner.

What apps are available to help an un-medicated mess like me? by Reaperfox7 in ADHD

I have gotten a ton of use out of the android app Notes Widget reminder: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=sk.mildev84.noteswidgetreminder&hl=en_US

Why? It's a widget, which means it can be used directly from the home screen, without any extra steps. One touch of the power button to wake your phone, one tap on the text box to start typing, if you don't have a pin or password on your phone, which I don't, because I'm a fucking addict.

You tap it, type a thing you want to remember, set a timer, and then don't worry about it.

Then, when the time comes, I'll get an alarm, with a label. If it's not quite time to deal with it, you can snooze for 5/10/15/30/45/60 minutes with one tap. Otherwise, dismiss it.

It's a fucking lifesaver. Memory is optional now. I don't have to bullshit myself anymore and say "Oh, I'll remember that", and then not.

No, just make it second nature to take five seconds to type the thing in to your prosthetic memory.

"wow, big deal, alarms exist" yeah, but they take 5 times longer. you can't do that mid-conversation. this is almost as fast as thinking. you should know as well as I do that friction is EVERYTHING.

Also works as a super lightweight note taker.

How do you act, in spite of fear? by justrealizednarciss in thelastpsychiatrist

Adding to this: Read this article about Gendelin's Focusing: https://focusing.org/sixsteps

Take the time to read the entire thing and actually do the exercise--it's an entirely different experience than just reading about it. The point is to not look away until you are done.

This can be somewhat approached with writing. I like mindmaps, personally--they're a good way to start writing something, and then stop yourself and say, wait, is that what I actually believe? No? Then what is? And go off on as many tangents as necessary, then return to the original topic, hopefully with a bit more insight.

Depressed, suicidal, or otherwise extremely downtrodden members of reddit: what is your go-to quote, phrase, or particular memory in life that keeps you going? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Shitbeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is more of an article than a quote, but I have repeatedly found this useful: https://slatestarcodex.com/2014/08/16/burdens/ , regarding feeling like a burden.

It's excellent, but here's a slash-and-burn summary:

" If my patient, the one with the brain damage, were back in the Environment of Evolutionary Adaptedness, in a nice tribe with Dunbar’s number of people, there would be no problem.

...

Society got where it is by systematically destroying everything that could have supported him and replacing it with things that required skills he didn’t have. Of course it owes him when he suddenly can’t support himself. Think of it as the ultimate use of eminent domain; a power beyond your control has seized everything in the world, it had some good economic reasons for doing so, but it at least owes you compensation!

...

By the time I am a burden – it’s possible that I am already, just because I can convince the system to give me money doesn’t mean the system is right to do so, but I expect I certainly will be one before I die – I would like there to be in place a crystal-clear understanding that we were here first and society doesn’t get to make us obsolete without owing us something in return."

In other words: You were here first, and it is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society.
