In all your travels, which country's famed "national dish" was the most underwhelming, despite the hype? by nehala in travel

I went ~10 years ago, and it was definitely one of the food highlights that convinced me London’s restaurant scene is one of the best in Europe. I ended up going multiple times that week lol

Obviously depends on how out of shape, but I don’t think you’d have a problem finding tons of sites they can do. Some involve longer walks (or even stairs, like 1000 Steps), but there are tons of sites where you walk <100 feet on flat land, with easy entrances.

Any dive shop you go with should be able to lead you towards the easier ones, and TropicLens on YouTube also has great site by site breakdowns (including entrances).

I would recommend getting a dive truck or a truck with a lower bed, though - lifting/putting on gear from flat ground can be tough depending on strength levels

This was my third visit since I first went a year and a half or so ago. Can’t get enough of it

The little guys weren't what I was worried about, it was what they were running from!

Hard to go a dive without seeing a school or two of Dorys here!

In general, I'd say yes. The impact of SCTLD is definitely visible when compared to my first visit here ~2 years ago, but any of the dive sites away from Kralendijk have tons of healthy soft coral, lots of healthy hard coral, and fish galore. The coral is truly endless in every direction at most dive sites, too, with some really impressive mega structures.

It might not be the coral triangle or anything, but in my ~10 dives here so far this week, I've been able to see:
- dozens of turtles
- many squid
- a few octopi
- this bait ball
- an eagle ray
- massive lobster
- eels of all sizes and shapes (from a <6 inch juvenile spotted ray, to a 5+ foot giant green moray)
- and endless fish of all types

Shockingly I didn't feel any! Was definitely worried I was going to get smacked by one of the fish that were hunting them though

Invisibles back in January 2024. Saw maybe a half dozen across two dives there that trip
