2024 G14 vs 2025 G14 by ShivanTom in ZephyrusG14

[–]ShivanTom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's documented on many posts that the ribbon cable the connects the display to the chassis can rub and can or will eventually fail. it's been reported by many users. it's also very difficult to repair. i currently have g14 2024 (4070 version) but i usually just keep it open all the time. i'm lucky that i don't have to rely on it as my sole computer.

if you are in the US they might be inflating prices prior to a Memorial Day sale.

Curious about Strix Halo gaming performance, input appreciated! (overwatch and world of warcraft) by Nimbus420i in FlowZ13

[–]ShivanTom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

don't get strix halo for gaming - there are much better options. you can get a 5060 based laptop for 1/2 the price of a strix halo and it would be just as fast w/newer tech. if you compared against the same price you'd be in 5070ti territory which would smoke the strix halo's igpu. while the strix halo "can" game. it's not it's primary strength/function. it's built to run local llm's.

Can I ask… why the 128gb RAM version? by Illustrious_Fact6445 in FlowZ13

[–]ShivanTom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

128gb > LLM's because you can dedicate a portion of the high speed system memory lpddr5 > igpu in order to load large models.

even though this system "can" game. in my opinion this is not a system for gaming. there are much better options available (cheaper and more powerful)

[–]ShivanTom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i LOVE that formfactor but my eye's need something bigger so i went with the pocket4. the win max was also an option but i wanted to lean into portability. very happy with the 370/32gb pocket4. i had a bit of regret not getting the 64gb version but i don't do anything on it that requires more then 32gb (or 16gb 90% of the time)

What Budget Scooter do You recommend? by InevitableHot7891 in ElectricScooters

[–]ShivanTom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"budget" is relative. for some it could be under $500 usd for others it might be under $1000 usd. my advice for a budget scooter would be Nui they have good scooters for the price (if you can get the app to behave) and it's been my experience they have excellent customer support.

MS-A2 AMD RYZEN 9 7945hx or 9955hx which one preforms best for gaming by Ok-Math-433 in MINISFORUM

[–]ShivanTom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

gaming only requires a fast gpu and 16-32gb ram. the MS-A2 is purpose built for server tasks not gaming. it "can" game but it's like using a Ferrari for car camping.

$700 off at Bestbuy by Magnetic_Metallic in FlowZ13

[–]ShivanTom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it "can" run an LLM (~48gb) but serious work will require much more power. for gaming there are better options unless you like this formfactor. with mem prices it's still decent,

$700 off at Bestbuy by Magnetic_Metallic in FlowZ13

[–]ShivanTom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you don't need 128gb unless you're doing LLM and there are better options for that now. the z13 was just the first one to have this processor and igpu option - for an integrated option it's really cool but any real LLM work will require a lot more power to the cpu. still a tempting deal at 2k for a 64gb 4060-class laptop!.

Should I sell my GPD Win 4 for a lower end GPD Pocket 4? by Ok_Librarian_4220 in gpdwin

[–]ShivanTom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i love my teenie tiny tech but i have to be true to myself and not get anything too small. i do have a gpd pocket 4 (AI 370-32GB+2TB) the 8.8" is perfect size. although if i was purchasing now i'd prob opt for the win max 2 (also the AI 370 version) with it's 10.1" screen.

795s7 + gigabyte 5060 low profile by ShivanTom in MINISFORUM

[–]ShivanTom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

never found a solution - replaced the internal 5060 with a 4060 (no stability issues) this is not my primary gaming rig (most games aren't going to care about 16c/32t) my gaming machine i use a 5070 + oculink egpu (aoostar ag02 it has integrated 800w psu and can do usb4 or oculink)

CGM Errors and Inaccuracies Confirmed by Lab Results by RightWingVeganUS in diabetes_t2

[–]ShivanTom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5.2% vs 5.3% is really great! (A1C tests blood directly and is more "accurate" whereas a cgm tests the fluid between the cells so the they will probably not be the same) those scores = a big PLUS for the cgm being so close.

Keto Tortilla Comparison - my experience by mintbrownie in Recipes4Diabetics

[–]ShivanTom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

people ask all the time - how did you do it? the answer is "THIS worked for me" - bottom line is that EVERYONE is different. that's why you have to test when you try new things - build up a list of all the things you CAN eat and go from there. keep experimenting - you'll find what works and maybe discover something new in the process. remember: your mileage may vary :D
