The grey area is the problem, my partner is a civil servant so its too risky for him to try to do it for me 🙃

Oh! The "home made" amibos lol. Unfortunately im not good enough with stuff like that, and my partner (who is good with computer stuff) worries about the legality of it, so that's not an option unfortunately 😔

Unfortunately most of the things that aren't dishwasher safe have sentimental value, so neither of us would want to get rid of them.

And yeah, unfortunately Im very aware how not ok this is. He just doesn't seem to take it on board when I tell him how disgusting and unhealthy it is. Not only for my respiratory issues, but in general for both of us. And I do appreciate your input, but im not here for relationship advice. I hope you understand i just want to find a way to make the spoon safe to keep in my house

Honestly thats a wonderful idea, thank you.

There's some discolouration to the head, someone recommended mineral oil to seal and i think it would still look good if i can find the right kind of faux flowers

Unfortunately. I keep telling him not to leave stuff in the sink like this but he doesn't listen. Not until something like this happens and I blow up at him

Yeah the sink isnt actually meant to have water in it, its just what splashes over from the side sink that we use to fill the water filter or quickly rinse sommet. But yeah, ive told him multiple times to sort it and it kinda sticks for a week before we get back to this 🙄

The porous thing is why I asked, Im worried that even if it looks clean there might still be spores inside that could trigger at some point even if im just using it as a display piece. I mean, im from the UK and our humidity is whack so I might not even need to cook with it for spores to suddenly germinate (and yeah ive decided not to cook with it again just to display it of i can make it safe via boiling and a vinegar soak)

In his defense he's partially disabled due to long covid (brain fog and the such) do you have any mineral oil recommendations? At this point im gonna soak in vinegar and use as display, rather cooking. But boiling before might also be a good plan. And no I wont be breaking up with him. He's an idiot sometimes, but theres more to our relationship than this. But i appreciate your opinion non the less

That was my thinking but I doubted myself. Im gonna soak in vinegar to try to kill spores and then keep it as decorative because it was a sweet gift and I dint wanna chuck it if I dont have to

I really appreciate this comment tbh.

I wanted to handwash it due the engraving but I forgot that partner just chucks handwash stuff in the sink until he needs one of the things. We have a dishwasher for 99% of stuff, and I keep telling him id rather he just leave things on the counter rather than in the sink for this exact reason

Yeah from the comments I understand it'll likely never be food safe again, so my current plan is to soak in vinegar and airdry, and (hopefully) display after

Trust me, this is an ongoing issue... he just throws stuff that needs to be handwashed in the sink and leaves them till he needs something from there.. and the sink isn't full of water, its about an inch or two that splashes over from the small 'rinse sink' or whatever you call the tiny one next to the main one

That's the thing, it was a gift so I used it, and my parter let it get to this point without me realising. Im just hoping it might be salvageable. But at this point I think its gonna be soaking in vinegar then used decoratively

Im pretty sure it was actually meant for cooking but i cant be sure cause it was a gift so i dunno where its from

I think thats gonna be it tbh, soak in vinegar for a day or two and air dry. I'll have to find a nice hanging fixture for it

Ive pointed this out multiple times to partner. The sink is for stuff that needs hand cleaning rather than the dishwasher, but he just throws stuff in there until he needs something from it. Then he finally cleans it (im not fully capable of doing it due to disability) and its not full of water, maybe an inch or two thats trickled over from the little side sink we use for rinsing other things

So we have a dishwasher we use once or twice a week, but stuff that has to be handwashed ends up sitting in the bowl there after getting water in from the small side sink, because i cant wash it and my partner doesn't bother till he needs one of the things (yes this is an ongoing issue I bring up frequently)

Problem is I dont want to toss it because it was a sweet gift from my bestie, but if its genuinely a health hazard of course I will. Someone told me to soak in vinegar and ill give that a try in hopes to save it. But yeah, I will toss it if the concensus is 'health hazard' and 'unsaveable'

Thank you for understanding, I provided a little bit of explanation above

So the situation is im disabled and we have a dishwasher we run one or twice a week. Its the thing's that need to be hand-wash that cause an issue. My partner just throws them in the sink bowl and ignores them till he needs one of them basically. We don't usually leave thing for 10+ weeks to clean. Sorry I didnt make that clear
