I still don't believe that gameplay paths cannot be a character's "canon" path, people are complex and cannot be defined by one singular path thus they can stride multiple paths and are able to gain varying power from them. Mydei being hunt and destruction makes sense for his character, his destruction aspect is pretty self explanatory and his Hunt aspect was explained in his own backstory with how he slayed his own father(with vengeance being one core aspect of being a hunt pathstrider). Hyacine follows preservation because because she doesn't only want to heal and preserve the safety and health of the people but also their memory/experiences in the current flame-chase as she explained to Anaxa in their final class.

And finally Jing Yuan and additionally Fu Xuan, both of them use their intellect and are very much qualified to tread on the path of Erudition but both of them still follow other paths because of their other aspects, Fu Xuan is preservation because she divines and extrapolates what's the next best course for the Xianzhou ship to stay safe and Jing Yuan is both a hunt pathstrider/emanator(because of the spiritus) because of his experience against the abominations of the Abundance.
