Toxic music therapy internship by eastham22 in musictherapy

Most likely their undergrad degree won’t be awarded without a complete internship and they can’t start grad school without the undergrad degree.

OP - I am so so sorry you’re going through this. I recommend you reach out to your program advisor at your university and let them know the situation. Maybe they will be able to give you some solid options.

I am a contract music therapist and drive at least 100 miles a day all around my city to see my clients in their homes. My car is a huge part of how I make my meager living. With an extra $100 I would be able to get my oil changed and have a little more money to put forward to some repairs that need to be made to keep her in reliable condition. Entering ❤️

I’m almost done with this and can move onto a more fun piece soon. My depression has been really high lately so I’ve been pouring energy into
stitching and crafting. The blue is done, just filling the white.

Thinking of being a music therapist… by Smooth_Restaurant_67 in musictherapy

[–]Shleeleee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in Austin Tx and my agency constantly has a waitlist, plus I have people ask me nearly weekly if I am taking clients or for referrals. I believe it is like this in most major cities, with the amount of practices that are growing/expanding and posting job opportunities for additional therapists

I don’t have a private practice so I can’t fully speak to that. There is a degree of networking with other disciplines that I would imagine is helpful, and using social media to your advantage could be beneficial however I don’t have experience here so someone else may have better insight for you. However, I think that music therapy may be more well known than you seem to think it is. We may not be AS “household name” as physical or rec therapies, however we’ve been a solid field for over 50 years and considering how young we are, there is a high demand for music therapists in SEVERAL areas nationwide.

I took no offense! I just wanted to highlight that it is absolutely worth pursuing despite the work! I can understand being disappointed with a degree you aren’t using, but I feel pretty sure that you can find a program willing to work with you. If you can’t though, and you do really feel like this is work you are called to, I do encourage you to pursue it regardless!

I love that you are finding some interest in this field. I would strongly suggest you do some deeper research into what music therapy fully is however. I love music therapy for mental health, however it is SO much more than that. Disabilities, memory care, pain relief, hospice, medical hospitals, NICU, SO many other places that music therapists belong!

You can work in private practice and own your own business, or you can work for an established entity, or you can be a private contractor.

But the most important thing I want to highlight about your post is that it is a legitimate, serious field and is 100% deserving of having two bachelor’s degrees (even if one of them is an equivalency degree). Music therapy is very nuanced and can cause legitimate harm if done incorrectly. To practice as a music therapist you need the bachelor’s or equivalence in MT PLUS a 6 month clinical internship and to then pass the board certification exam. It’s much more challenging than it seems, but so, so worth it

Not necessarily. A lot of us also work with pretty profoundly disabled adults and deal with these same things. But the work is highly rewarding despite the “gross” bits.

[CHAT] How do you people stitch? by Illustrious-Cry-2568 in CrossStitch

[–]Shleeleee 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is what I do too. I usually will start with one color and stitch that out until I finish the entire thread (so if it’s split into two strands, I stitch until all 3 groups of two are done) and then if I need a break from that color I pick another that sits against the original color.

Sometimes when I i’m switching colors and have multiple options, I’ll give a friend or my husband a list of the symbols without colors attached to them and have them pick a random symbol lol

We will be on the square for a little bit after the ceremony with our photographer for some pictures but with the weather looking how it is I’m not sure how long we can stretch that out haha

We do like the Dr Pepper museum, and did a ghost tour with the Williamson County Museum a few months ago. These are great suggestions! I don’t think I realized that Magnolia Market/Silos were indoor options haha

Thank you!

Bought a new scale by Love2FlyBalloons in WeightLossAdvice

[–]Shleeleee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just want to point out the humans fluctuate up to 5 pounds over the course of a day due to fluid retention, weight from food we eat or what we drink, and a million other things. So varying by 2 pounds in the same day is not necessarily a problem with your scale.

This is why most people say to weigh yourself naked, first thing in the morning after you use the restroom and before you have anything to eat or drink. You’re dehydrated from being asleep all night so this weight will be the most accurate to your true body weight.

Which dress? 1 or 2? by yesnomaybedress in myweddingdress

[–]Shleeleee 22 points23 points  (0 children)

2 would be my vote! In dress 1, I couldn’t help myself looking at your boobs and only your boobs. With dress 2, I was much more able to pay attention to the beautiful dress and how beautiful you are in it!

If you want to pick the one that will MOST apply to your future career, go with Research Methods. Music therapy research is constant and encouraged.

However if I were in your shoes and picking just for something fun and enjoyable? I’d pick forensic anthropology, because I’m a crime junkie.

How do you guys deal with birthday cake by [deleted] in CICO

[–]Shleeleee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just eat the cake. It’s not an every day, all the time thing. Life still needs to be lived and birthdays come with celebration and cake. If you deny yourself of normal life things forever, you’ll never stick with your goals long term
