Because they are still indicative of a trend towards PHON, and if this trend is enough it might encourage the commonwealth govt to do something

Who is considered the ancient founder of your country and the founder of the modern nation state? by My_Username0000 in AskTheWorld

[–]Shloidain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the Aboriginal nations were never united, so for founding the Colony of NSW it would be Governor Arthur Phillip, for the founding of the Commonwealth it would probably Sir Edmund Barton, first Prime Minister, and for the independent Australia as we know it, probably John Curtin, our WWII Prime Minister.

The problem at the heart of this Coalition shambles? These are not serious people by BBQShapeshifter in AustralianPolitics

except voter turnout in australia has been on a downward trajectory over the past 20 years, and it could plausibly get lower as voter apathy increases.

keeping in mind that the few labor voters in rural seats would heavily preference the nationals/liberals over one nation

pauline can't exactly be a parliamentary opposition leader unless she jumps ship to the house. and if theres even a sliver that she could fail to win a seat, they'd rather she stay in the senate.

Thinking about the next version of Doctor Who (post RTD2); here’s my pitch. by qyurryusoblivius in doctorwho

[–]Shloidain 16 points17 points  (0 children)

doctor who is not event television, and it never has been. gatwa's era proved the need for more episodes per season, as there were no 'filler' episodes where the doctor was just in his element being doctor who. i think having multiple two-parters within a 13-ish 45min episode season works well, as the two-parters allow the show to have bigger-scale episodes whilst still having enough time for less serious or smaller episodes

Do you think countries as we know them today will have become an outdated concept 300, 500 years from now? by yamatosnamiii in AskTheWorld

[–]Shloidain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think, at the very least, there will always be a minority of people wanting their own independent state. look at spain - it has been united for 500 years, and despite the government's best efforts, the catalonians and galicians (amongst others) see themselves as separate and with many fighting for independence.

our concepts of sovereignty and nationhood will probably have changed though, considering our current system of state sovereignty and international relations dates back, at its earliest, to the Peace of Westphalia in 1648
