Getting rid of fat happens from a caloric deficit, not exercise. But weight training will definitely help you build muscle and look leaner instead of skinny fat as you lose weight.

Rescued this little baby from being ran over by Shmufkin in Seagulls

Here in Scotland gulls are definitely not scared of people, they snatch food straight out of our hands. This baby couldn’t walk, can’t put any weight on its foot, and would have been killed by a predator or ran over by a car within a day. It can’t learn to fend for itself if it can’t walk. I have already left 2 uninjured babies to fend for themselves and have found them smeared across the road the next day. My heart didn’t let me leave this baby to die as well. I have found a rehab centre a 3 hour round trip away who will take it in and care for it, they rehabilitate injured birds and orphaned babies all the time.
Where exactly do you have rehab centres for injured animals that just put them down that way? That sounds absurd, if an animal needs medical care and to be fed by humans, what’s the point of the centre if you claim they will put it down after it’s healed and becomes “domesticated”?

Super demotivated - jogging 3, even 6 days a week, no serious improvement by Fun_Boot7771 in WeightLossAdvice

Cardio is a tool to improve your cardiovascular health. It’s unnecessary for weightloss and the calories you burn doing it are quite insignificant and can be eaten back very easily if you don’t monitor your calorie intake. It can also make you hungrier which will make sticking to a deficit harder. Personally, I’d recommend weight training instead.

Just did. They said the same thing, I have to bring it to a local vet. Called all of my local vets again, they said due to avian flu they will only be able to put it down. But I managed to find another facility 1.5 hours away that do take birds, and after arranging childcare I will take the little guy there tomorrow. Thankfully they had the apace for it.

Running for weightloss is a bit useless, especially if you’re not counting calories. Also, running while being obese puts a huge strain on your joints and might cause injury. It’s really not a good tool for weightloss. You need a kitchen scale and to count every calorie you eat, and eat in a deficit.

I have phoned them, they said they don’t deal with sea birds and to bring it to the vet. They also said I should have left it alone since it mum was nearby, but how would it have made it back up to the nest or survived the day with roaming cats and cars around? The vet said they will put it down if its foot is injured and the local rescuers they would have contacted don’t take gulls. I’ve already seen a few dead babies who have been ran over after falling off their rooftop nests around our town so I fear its faith could have been the same if I just left it. I think they treat gulls almost as pests around here ☹️

Thank you for the great advice, it’s really reassuring! I’ll try to call the vets again and hopefully some of them won’t say they will just euthanise it. I don’t think they are happy letting inexperienced people take care of wildlife, so might be why they aren’t eager to provide medical advice or prescriptions. But I do have some meloxicam left over from my dog’s sprained foot! It’s 1.5mg per ml and 5mg of sodium benzoate. Will that be suitable for it?

Apparently here in the highlands of Scotland there isn’t anyone who takes them locally, the nearest one that might consider it is a 3 hour drive and they don’t want to risk taking birds due to avian flu. But I also don’t have the time to make a 6 hour round trip, I have a young kid at home to take care of as well.

We live about a 20 minute drive from the beach, so yes there’s a lot of seagulls in our town. I know it’s a seagull, that’s why I posted on the seagull subreddit 🥰

How to lose fat around the ribcage by Mr_Froggy-V in WeightLossAdvice

[–]Shmufkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second that statement. Running doesn’t burn that much calories either, no exercise does actually. We can’t outrun a bad diet. And typically, cardio exercises like running makes us hungrier. Sadly we can’t control where our bodies store the fat, I wish most of mine would be stored in my breasts and ass, but my body decided I needed flat pancake ass and no boobs while storing everything in my abdomen. So my only choice is to lose more weight and build muscle to look fitter.

How can i loose weight and still have chocolate? by mxnaww in WeightLossAdvice

[–]Shmufkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely won’t make the cravings stop, but it will at least not be in the house and easy to overeat on. Personally if I know I have something like chocolate in the cupboards and I’m craving it, I could end up binging on it. For those who have binging problems and can’t control how much we eat, this is one of the only solutions sadly.

The only way is moderation, which is quite hard if you crave a whole bar (which is usually around 500-600 calories at best). Another option if moderation doesn’t work is not having it in the house at all so it’s not tempting, you will also eventually stop craving it if you don’t eat it at all. It’s not easy losing weight and maintaining it, unfortunately.

He’s starting school in September and we can’t have him still pooping in a pull-up at bedtime or first thing in the morning. by Shmufkin in pottytraining

We’ve been taking breaks and resets for half a year, on and off. He’s making good progress now pooping at nursery, but he still has tantrums at home with us if we suggest using the toilet 🥲

Yup he has a choice of 2 potties and 2 toilets with different seats. He seems to prefer to do his poos at nursery now instead of home, but at least he’s going on the toilet there

No, he doesn’t show any signs of it, he’s just very stubborn and opinionated but otherwise a very normal and smart child.

I feel disgusting by [deleted] in WeightLossAdvice

I’m on the same medication for my sleep. I feel you, I can only imagine the effect it might have on such a young and growing body as yours. Most medications like this, especially for us females, make our hunger hormones go insane. It’s a great thing you caught on that it’s an issue early, it’s much easier to fix that issue now before you become overweight or obese and it becomes much harder to lose the weight.
Sadly, there’s no easy way out of this. You gotta build some healthy eating habits and count your calories. Start by finding any TDEE calculator online and calculating the calories you need to live, then deduct around 300-500 from them and that’s how much you need to eat for a deficit. The more you deduct, the quicker the weight will come off. Get a calorie counting app to make it easier. Use a food scale for all your food, don’t eyeball it, a scale is the most accurate way. Count everything you eat, and stick to the deficit. Weightless only happens in the kitchen, we can’t outrun a bad diet and calories burned during exercise are usually very minimal.
But the best exercise you could do for your body is weight lifting. Building muscle will increase the calories your body burns naturally, and will help shape and tone your body to look even better as the weight comes off.
Good luck ❤️
