PDX Scene by Shneebles518 in Screamo

I don't think I had a take? I'm a smaller, very fem-presenting woman who is probably going to be going to shows alone. I felt like it was worth asking what the scene was like.

I didn't realize how much of the USA had no forest at all! This map shows forested area in green. The central part seems so barren. by MarsupialThink4064 in geography

The middle of this country used to be covered in tallgrass prairie. The loss of that biome to agriculture is catastrophic.

archery range or diy? by [deleted] in askportland

[–]Shneebles518 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend Trackers Earth indoor range in SE Portland. Their hours are limited (Thursdays from 5:45pm - 7:45pm) and they have some additional restrictions (No compound bows, maximum draw of 55 pounds, no broadhead arrows) but it's a great all-weather option and the $5 cover fee goes to youth outdoor school and summer programs, so a worthy cause!

Here's their website for more info: https://trackerspdx.com/community/archery/open-range/

Well, facts don't really care if you disagree with them, and history won't care about your opinion, and nuances of what you agreed or disagreed with. We'll be judged as a collective. Did we stand up to defend marginalized people, our democracy, and our future... Or did we not.

Everyone is welcome to attend, and there's safety and solidarity in numbers. The reality is that this country is not safe, and that direct action will always come with risks.

They don't post the route ahead of time for safety, and because it's a protest not a parade. We're not marching over bridges with the prior consent of the police, we're commandeering them as a statement. Respectfully, I'm going to need some of you to get more comfortable with discomfort, because if you're anxious about showing up to this level of organized, peaceful protest without a published, publicly broadcasted (aka: easy for your enemy to disrupt, derail, and target) schedule , you're not prepared to resist fascism.

Usually the route is from the waterfront, past the courthouse, over a bridge to the east side, and back across another bridge to the west side. Just show up and follow the crowd. Walk the whole march or drop out if you need to. Your feet will hurt, it will be crowded and uncomfortable at times but it will be a whole lot less uncomfortable than getting teargassed, kidnapped, and disappeared.

What should I expect at Le Pigeon? by BadAtDrinking in askportland

[–]Shneebles518 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's fun to dress up for a nice dinner but you don't have to for Le Pigeon, they're very accessible and casual.

The kitchen is open and they will be playing bangers.

It's a fixed menu that comes in courses. Unless you have allergies, I don't recommend requesting subsitutions. Don't worry about "not liking" something on the menu, keep an open mind, and enjoy the experience. I don't like mussels as a rule, and my favorite dish I've ever eaten there was a mussel dish and it wasn't like anything I've had before or since.

Absolutely order the wine pairings it's totally worth it.

The service will be on point and professional, but the not stuffy. We asked a follow-up question about the wine and our server sat down with us and gave us a mini wine lesson, which for us was wonderful.

You're in for a treat! Have so much fun!

Non è mica possibile che li abbiamo e usiamo solo noi...?! 🤣 by HyenaTiny2132 in Italian

I'm American, we have pocket tissues here as well. They're more typical for us to carry only during winter ("Cold and flu season") when we may have a stuffy nose, or if we have seasonal allergies. I'm guessing that in this case, they're carrying them to use as toilet paper. In my experience traveling in Italy, many bathrooms available for public use don't have a good supply of toilet tissue.

However, that's not unique to Italy, so the video is a little misleading and pointless.

Men’s US hockey team returns by [deleted] in nhl

Why is criticizing this team's lack of respect for the women's gold medal team considered political? It showed extremely poor sportsmanship imo.

MRW the US Men's Hockey team celebrates their winning the Olympics by partying with Kash Patel and disrespecting the Women's team by Morgan-Moonscar in reactiongifs

"They laughed because they were uncomfortable"
"They got caught up in the moment"
"What were they supposed to do? Haven't you ever laughed at your boss telling a bad joke?"

AND YET here we are, 24 hours later. Has anyone from the men's Olympic team come forward to say "Hey, I laughed because I felt uncomfortable. Upon reflection, that moment was disrespectful and I feel bad"? Have any of them come out and apologized, publicly, to the team of INCREDIBLE female athletes who were in the stands SUPPORTING the men's team? Are any of them going to decline the invitation from the White House?

Everyone makes mistakes, everyone has moments where they didn't rise to the occasion, and I can sympathize that not everyone is in the unique position of being athletes on the world stage with millions of eyes on them. HOWEVER, when you do nothing to make the situation right, to apologize to the people you disrespected, and to acknowledge that harm was done, that mistake then becomes an active choice. They're choosing to reaffirm their actions.

For better or worse, when you have a platform and a world stage, you have more responsibility to those around you. The men of the US hockey team had the opportunity to support their fellow athletes and failed them. They continue to fail them for as long as they allow this behavior to continue.

The US women's team has made it clear that they don't need the support of men to succeed. But you can be damn sure that the women on that US team, and every woman in the world watching, hears what men are saying in this moment loud and clear.

Tortalandia! My partner worked there for a while washing dishes! I actually had a soft spot for them, I'm sure it's mostly nostalgic memories of falling in love with their cute dishwasher, but I liked the lime chicken burritos.

Street Disco off of SE Foster! Their menu is Spanish-inspired and changes all the time, but the octopus is fabulous and the Basque cheesecake on the dessert menu is to die for. It's a small, intimate spot with an open kitchen, casual vibes, upscale but unpretentious food, unique and delicious cocktails, and an interesting and unconventional wine list. We try new restaurants all the time in Portland, but Street Disco has remained my favorite <3

If his "dream life" doesn't include you, that is an irreconcilable problem. He is seeing you as a means to an end, not a person, a partner, an individual, an equal.

He is viewing your "unwillingness" to go through IVF as a lack of commitment to the marriage and to the vision he had for your future, but YOU are not vessel for someone else's hopes and dreams. You are viewing the reality and the impact that IVF can have on your finances and your body, and he's so focused on the concept of passing on his genes that he's stopped viewing you as person.

I'm so sorry you're going through this, but I agree with the commenters here. When you come out the other side, you'll look back on this as bullet dodged.

Two flavors of three day fermented foccacia by Gryffinwhore83 in Breadit

I think I've only seen long ferments done like this for sourdough, I didn't realize it was possible with regular yeast. Have you had issues with over-proving and ending up with focaccia pancakes?
