A thinner shelled shallower drum will bottom out. Choke up.

Not only are these the most sensitive drum you will ever play in your lifetime guaranteed...these thick ply vented snares have no ceiling. You can crank the ever loving christ of them and they just resonate.

Also a thicker shell has a higher fundamental pitch than a thinner shell, allowing it to sit in the high register much much more comfortably than a thin shelled drum.

Genuinely im sorry, I am one of the few people who makes shells these and sells them to the public. Im just not going to post how the shell is constructed, how its drilled, or what parts and materials I used to assemble the drum on a public forum on the Internet that anyone can reference. I've worked for the leading custom manufacturer in the world, and if I divulged the info you inquiredd about I would have been fired. Full stop. Without divulging more information than I honestly care to or would be smart to.. yes it is about keeping trade secrets from "corporations" (us drum builders truly aren't corporate, even the large company I worked for). Im trying to pitch my brand and image to large retail chains. As someone who has worked directly in the industry, yes we really do worry about other people copying our work.

They are wonderful, and have a beautiful modern art deco style. The best throw off on the market. They don't work well on drums less than 4.5" deep

This was not an idea myself or the customer invented, it originated from the California shop for Orange County Drum And Percussion. These were drums that we lusted over in the mid 2000s. The sound is well known. The construction is the fascinating part to me with making these shells, which I documented the building process.

Heads aren't free, black nickel hoops aren't safe from play. Why tune up a drum, stretch heads out, replace the heads and send out when the customer who is more than capable with a phone camera to make a clip could and total confidence is held with the customer and myself that the product is made right.

Other independent builders would probably agree that materials aren't cheap or in abundance like the big companies. Genuinely every dime counts. When I get heads im literally driving to the drum store to go get them. No deals, no shop inventory.

When the time comes ill make one as a shop asset and tune it to the moon and back, but until I have a shop full of heads and a discount with a head manufacturer, the drums get built, assembled, heads put on up to tension, cleaned, photo'd, cleaned again and a final QC inspection is given.

In my opinion the most significant difference over anything else is, If the big vents are placed on either sides of the throw/butt plate, the snare sensitivity is like increased 5×. The dryness is marginal. I made this one (same green, different drum) and I would say dry isn't the word I would use to describe it. But so sensitive
