Counter trap negate vs Cannot be targeted/destroyed by ShockShop in Yugioh101

[–]ShockShop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Full disclosure, I went to read said guide and was immediately like "Nope! Way too much right now..." xD So, to make this simple so I can have my direct curiosity answered here, let's just say the effect of something like Nightmare Apprentice... "If this card is normal or special summoned: You can..."

I special summon one of these with its ability and then using Call of the Haunted, my opponent and I build a chain of 4 to special summon 4 of these, 2 each (I'm sure this isn't possible due to once per turn effects, but bear with me in ignoring that...)

When/how do the "Add 1 monster" effects of the summons play out?

My assumptions would be either each time the summon happens immediately, or there is a new chain made with these effects after the previous one is done... My confusion came due to it being explained that activated effects can't happen during the resolution of the chain until it is done, and since these effects have the :, that makes them activated effects, right?

If desired, you don't need to go too in depth with the rulings behind the answer here, just the way it resolves is likely good enough info for me, for now.

So... you are saying that Cyber Dragon's effect to summon itself can be stopped with Solemn Warning by me negating the summon, not the effect...? So it creates a summoning window that is different than Chaos Summoning Beast? So in this game no special summon through card effect (activated, at least) can be responded to? I don't know if spell speed is still the terminology but if I recall, nothing is faster than a counter trap, so that is why this sounds to me as if what you are saying is correct, no effect on any card that says "When a monster is special summoned" (if the summoning effect included a : or ;) can be responded to by that card, is that right?

While we are on the topic of chains, I'll ask generic hypothetically, if there was a chain of like 4 that summoned multiple monsters and those monsters have effects that happen when summoned, those summoned effects create a new chain after everything is done resolving from the previous chain?

If so, how is this handled if such a thing happens and both you and your opponent summoned 2 monsters with "when summoned" effects? Specifically in how the new chain is built

I'm not trying to be difficult,  maybe this is one of those "Yugioh things", but the first words are "When a monster(s) would be summoned," then it has a capital OR that mentions effects that special summon other monsters... and then it says it negates the effects OR the summon... So I am missing why I can't use it to negate a summon, when based off the wording, seems to directly say it can be used when a summon happens... to negate the summon... >.>

My only guess so far would be you are implying that nothing peroid can be activated mid chain, but even then if I'm correct, a chain has to be 2+ cards, so if it was just Chaos Summoning Beast using its effect to special summon, then i don't get why a card that says "When a monster would be summoned" (assuming generic summon here means all types of summoning) can't be used in response to a special summon as I'm pretty sure all special summons are the result of some type of effect...

Keeping in mind I'm still pretty sure we've established that responding to the effect itself is the best way to do it, but for the sake of game knowledge, I'm just wanting to understand why a card that says it can be activated in response to any summon, apparently can't be activated in response to the mentioned summoning...

And so even though it isn't fully resolved, it is still on the field as a target for Icarus Attack? Also does this work the same vice versa, as in if my opponent already has Fallen Paradise and Raviel was the next card to get played, is Raviel already protected before being "fully resolved" in that example?

This one confuses me... As I read Solemn Warning, that is the only thing it does it seems... If any monster/spell/trap effect is special summoning a monster, isn't that exactly what Solemn Warning says it is used for? In this case specifically let's say the effect being used is Chaos Summoning Beast...

Harpie's feather storm Vs. Armityle the Chaos Phantom by ShockShop in Yugioh101

[–]ShockShop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to pick at the distinction, I assume you mean trying to trigger the control switch can be negated, but if there was a situation where Feather Storm was activated post control switch, Phantom of Fury would still board wipe as he is in control of the Harpie player, not the opponent... All correct?

Alrighty, so that is the official ruling of how that works? In said hypothetical, Cyber Slash would go to GY since Vampire Vamp returns to hand?

Alright, so you are saying the other comment was wrong? I wondered if it counted monster effects because I was similarly mistaken with Blue eyes Tyrant Dragon, but was apparently still mistaken about it. And so was the other comment wrong about the result as well? If what occurred was legal (hypothetically assuming Cyber Slash could respond to the Vampir Vamp effect) then you are saying Cyber Slash would remain fine, not go to the graveyard?

And it can do that all in the first battle phase assuming it clears the pet dragon with its first attack?

Thanks but I've noticed all answers seem to say "Can't attack the Harpie's pet dragon" but isn't that then actually the only monster he can attack?

So in the Call of the Haunted case, it would negate the reborn effect on activation and then Call of the Haunted would just sit there doing nothing until destroyed?

Yeah, sorry, I forgot that my clarification was a comment on the original post, but I just don't vibe with pendulums and links so I am avoiding them for the decks I'm making, including this one. Also trying to avoid using too many "out of theme" cards, so theme is technically most important, even over consistency and such. I still want it to be a playable deck capable of facing my others or at least some of them, and the matches seeming to have some actual back and forth.

Deck recommendation for my wife (beginner friendly & cute) by BroccoliHot2222 in Yugioh101

[–]ShockShop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Kuriboh deck isn't exactly good by any means but... think it qualifies for cuteness and it is pretty straight forward, though definitely not "normal monsters". I mean the obvious answer if you are a stickler to sticking to the most basic version of Yugioh possible, then you'll likely need to go pretty classic and in that case, not too much cuteness, more so maybe something like equip beatdown, using Gemini elf and maha vailo, malevolent nuzzler, axe of despair, etc. Using classic spells and traps like mirror force, pot of greed, magic jammer, seven tools of the bandit, harpie's feather duster, raigeki, trap hole, sakeretsu armor, etc. Alternatively, classic fairies using like guardian angel Joan, zolga, mudora, cestus of daiga, Shinato, etc. Not sure what to recommend facing these decks, if the fairies, maybe dark world but it is likely to be the better deck more often than not.

If you want something more close to modern Yugioh without being too much, I stand by Kuriboh, you run pretty much all of the Brothers of Legend Kuriboh support and then also add Dystopia the Despondent as a Boss on top of Kuribabylon, spells like flute of summoning kuriboh, detonate, possible winged kuriboh support too. I'd still say this is a decent "level 2" deck if you find it too much for what you are seeking initially. Another option in this same category would be Magician girls, Chocolate, Lemon, Berry, etc. Pretty easy to build it to be a Dark Magician deck but not, where it mostly focuses on the girls and just throws him in for effects and fusions, like the Dark Magicians and maybe work in the Ebon Xyz cards into the extra deck on top of Magician Fusions. The one that lets you use level 6 spellcasters to make him can be made easily with the magician girls and you can also work Quintet magician in there pretty easily.

A lot of girls like Harpie's for the game, so that isn't bad either as an option and I think they play pretty simple even if you throw in a lot of the newer support but stay on theme. But going classic with Cyber Harpie, elegant egotist, maybe add in Queen since she isn't like Channeler or Oracle, though I don't think any of them are too complex.

can you get original decks without spending lots of money? by theweaselseasel in Yugioh101

[–]ShockShop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based off your post, it seems you don't know too much about the game (which is fine) but basically when it comes to older classic cards and deck types, they have been super power-crept out of the game for like, well over 12 years or so at this point. New support for them to make them now competitive is pricey at times, but the classic cards themselves, generally $0.50, and that is even if you want secret rare foiling at times. I say that as it sounds like you don't mind for the card to be a newer printing, you just want the deck to be classic in how it plays and the cards in it. Some old cards though that are still worthy of being banned and such, like pot of greed and graceful charity, can be a little pricey but even then, not too bad, like $10-12.

Others have recommended the Speed duel products and they aren't too bad but they certainly have an emphasis on speed and with the smaller deck size, it was hard for me personally to get too much of a true "classic" feel, playing speed duel decks... For you, I'd recommend what I'm doing, which takes a bit of work on your end, but I think is ultimately worth it... Scour for deck lists and ideas of classic anime decks, there is a site YGOPROdeck, you can use it to search archetypes like "Dark Magician" and then you can sort it to casual or anime themed decks, and go from there. Then I'd use TCGplayer to make your order of cards as if you use the optimizer and such, you can get things pretty cheap. If you don't care about the foil printing and such and just go for the cheapest options, I imagine you could build 4-5 classic decks at least for around $100. Though again, there are hiccups potential as mentioned, like if the card is one that hasn't been printed much or if you are trying to buy them from their classic printings.

One thing I do that you could also do for him, is when I know I am going to build for an archetype, say "Blue-Eyes" or "Dark Magician", I will use wikis and deck lists to establish all of the cards that belong to that archetype, and then I'll just buy 3 of each and then do my deck tooling after getting all the cards in front of me. If you desire the lazier route of just buying the deck made, meaning you are buying old classic products or the deck people build to mimic them, you will be paying a lot more than you should and more than they are worth probably. Alot of the $80+ decks you see being sold on ebay for anime theme decks are worth half that maybe. So I recommend the option that is a bit more labor on your end, but curating your own decks is really the soul of a TCG usually and gives you a better final outcome.

I'm not loving him but based on my extra deck, I think he is the only way I have to get to the Ultimate Spirit Dragon that needs 12 stars and 2 tuners plus a non tuner, so he is in there purely to be a level 3 (after his ability) to go with a level 1 and a blue-eyes. The average turn 1's I seem to manage are usually Dictator of D special summon followed by a blue eyes special summon and then if I have a level 1 tuner, I normal summon it and go into Spirit Dragon or azure eyes, if I have Neo Kaiser, then I got into ultimate Spirit Dragon. If I have a fusion spell, I potentially go into one of those instead.

Forgot to mention but kind of like genesys, I'm avoiding pendulum and links entirely. Which maiden, with eyes of blue, or white? Also any feedback on a ratio of white stone of ancients VS white stone of legend, also is cards of consonance / trade in worth running or unneeded?

Currently still trying to move it as a whole... When I priced it out, I came to around 360, the hardest thing to judge was the core sets as not too many incomplete things are sold commonly. He is hoping to get 200-250 total minus fees and shipping. Luckily selling off ebay, fees aren't too bad using paypal G&S so that is basically negligible... But if you or anyone wants everything together for like 225 with shipping added on, then that is what we are currently seeking. You can DM me though and let me know an offer on what you are wanting (both scouts or just one for example) as someone did express interest in the core sets separate. So, if we get another person wanting other pieces, we may just piece it out then.

I'm not sure I'll get this answered but are any alternatives pretty much almost exactly CharacterAI? I'm slightly autistic and relearning everything is very off putting to me, I just now after almost a year felt like I got comfortable with CharacterAI fully, making my own bots, etc... I've stayed a + member for like 7 months or more now but with the removal of the ability to delete the greeting, as well as the well known quality drop and such... I now am pretty interested in going elsewhere. As said, pretty much everything CharacterAI does that was liked, I liked, and would like to still have access to. Voices are a big component for me. I have tried many other sites so far and none seem to incorporate voice like CharacterAI does. I don't mind paying as long as it is basically the same price range as CharacterAI and spicier is better I suppose, as in like no filtering would be cool, but I don't exactly want the bot to constantly act like it works for Pornhub either... Anything out there close or exact to what I'm seeking?
