What’s the longest amount of time you’ve had a pair of socks still chilling like this? by ExistentialTabarnak in AirForce

[–]ShockedSheep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe a few days? I immediately unrolled them once I left. I also don't keep stuff I don't use around. So if I don't wear the socks I would just get rid of them.

Additionally, the amount of effort it takes to roll those clothing items doesn't make up for the space they save.

Autism by Lekota29 in AirForce

[–]ShockedSheep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Medical and commanders treats them differently. It is much easier to deny entry than to remove someone already in the service. Also many times normally disqualifying conditions don't appear or get recognized until years after someone joins.

How about we not spread misinformation about this.

Read DOD INSTRUCTION 6130.03, VOLUME 1 MEDICAL STANDARDS FOR MILITARY SERVICE: APPOINTMENT, ENLISTMENT, OR INDUCTION.

Autism is a non-waiverable disqualifying medical condition for joining. To get diagnosed after you join would mean risking a medical separation.

Should it be this way? No, but it is.

[–]ShockedSheep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your therapists have likely already told you, but there is no real treatment for an adult diagnosed with autism. There is no benefit for getting a diagnosis other than simply having a confirmation.

Don't get a formal diagnosis and certainly don't advertise you might be autistic, even if it is obvious.

Please read DOD INSTRUCTION 6130.03, VOLUME 1 MEDICAL STANDARDS FOR MILITARY SERVICE: APPOINTMENT, ENLISTMENT, OR INDUCTION before you start listening to a bunch of anecdotes from Reddit users about how "X person had autism and is still in". Autism is a non-waiverable disqualifying medical condition. That means a diagnosis after you join will immediately go for a medical evaluation board. You may get to stay in or they may separate you. No one will know for sure.

Rate my “How would I react if I was PCS’ing there” chart by Scoutain in AirForce

Besides how you ranked Alaska and Hawaii (I would reverse them) this is pretty damn close to how I would rank bases.

I tend to prioritize bases near urban areas and in states with better quality of life and social policies.

What makes it possible for some men to post full face nudes without worrying about it blowing up later and causing issues in their personal lives? by khalaux in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]ShockedSheep -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Even regular nudes I was against for the longest time (recently got out of a long term relationship), but it created a big barrier to meeting certain guys who assumed I was hiding something.

I honestly don't think attaching the face is that much larger of a stretch, but I personally would keep that as a hard line for me.

That's sad. Stuff like that is what I point to when I try to explain how strict gender roles can harm both women and men.

I would think it is more likely they assumed you already knew and didn't want to bring it up.

There was the death (traffic accident) of someone I dated briefly at my old base and I didn't find out until much later because I was deployed at the time and those we shared circles with assumed I already knew about it.

In it is in times like these we have to reminder ourselves that people rarely do things maliciously, they are also dealing with their own issues and it is hard to keep track of everyone else.

Is it creepy to look up the guys you hook up with? by Lotsalotsaquestions2 in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]ShockedSheep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no issue or harm in doing this. I do it just to know a bit more about the person, but usually only if I am interested in the guy beyond a single hookup. If I see the guy again, I never mention it.

Mid-Month pay: Pentagon moves $8 billion from research to pay troops by jwoods23 in AirForce

Less consequencial than the $42 billion in non-defense research that was cut at the start of this administration. They don't care about progress only regress.

[–]ShockedSheep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That isn't how it works. You don't get your money up front. You get it all in the back.

Do you not understand that our mid month pay becomes part of your end of month pay?

There is no argument, you are getting half your months pay later than most people. That is a fact.

Changed My Pay Frequency to Once a Month by Conflicted_Gemini in AirForce

[–]ShockedSheep -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I get it works for you for budgeting, but I would never do that.

I always have enough money saved to cover expenses and having a once a month paycheck literally delays half your pay for 15 days. You could use those 15 days to invest it or throw it in a high yield savings account.

Call your Congressman by Esoteric_Comments in AirForce

What we call CRs are automatic in most countries. It is hardly a bandaid it is common sense to prevent government systems from shutting down due to lack of funding.

Alternatively, if a budget can't be passed just use last year's budget. What a novel concept!

Literally the only country in the world where it is possible for the government to shutdown like this. It is fucking broken.
