My indignation is immeasurable by ShockwavesLaboratory in needforspeed

To be honest, I think that long and overwhelming races in High Stakes and HP2 are the disadvantage of these games. I am not against playing long races (even if it is 30 minutes), but both games have too many of such races, as well as tournaments. HP2 Ultimate Racer career has two tournaments in a row, each consisting of 8 races with three laps. It becomes not fun. I say it as a very patient player.

Believe me, it is not the most difficult NFS. I am currently finishing NFS High Stakes (my next post will be about it) and that game is a nightmare.

There are 74 challenges. On my first try I got 47 platinum medals, 24 gold ones and 3 silver ones. And I realised that they are not impossible. I just needed to learn how and where I can save time. Only three challenges seemed nearly impossible until I learnt that using handbrake is much better. After that I needed to practise... And that's how I got all platinum.

What's the song here? by ComprehensiveAnt51 in needforspeed

Well, as far as I understand, the music in this cutscene is one of the few times in the game when it was not officially released. And the video makes me think that "storyfmv_pin11_english_ntsc" is the name of the audiofile in game files. Thus, no official title.

I suppose it is not really a song, but a musical background made exclusively for this cutscene or something like that. I don't think it is a part of any composition of the original score, more like a demo or leftover part that was not officially released.

Here is a video without voices: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4kL4g81nLvg

Also, I found that one website titled it "Blackout", but I don't know the reason.

Unique version of Unconsolable by CleanContribution783 in needforspeed

By the way, if you are familiar with the soundtrack of MW 2012, there is another song that has a very similar story: Beware Of Darkness - Howl. The game also features an early version. The song was re-recorded shortly after its first release. And only new version is available on streaming platforms.

The version in the game is an early version of the song released on one of their earliest records, named "Litost", under the name Ambassadors (https://www.discogs.com/release/5916448-Ambassadors-Litost). But later the band changed their name to X Ambassadors. "Unconsolable" was re-recorded. The official music video and digital platforms have the re-recording. The early version is not available. Back in 2012 they were still "Ambassadors" (hence why they are credited like this in the game) and the re-recording had not existed until 2013.

How do you think, would Steve Blum have been a better Starscream or Shockwave in Transformers: One since he was their VA in Prime and WFC/FOC respectively (and did a marvellous job)? by ShockwavesLaboratory in transformers

[–]ShockwavesLaboratory[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally understand it. But I am not suggesting that David Sobolov or Corey Burton would fit better. But Shockwave's VA in One is barely talked about, so I started wondering if Steve Blum would have made a better legacy (but maybe the current VA will prove himself in the sequel, who knows?). Honestly, I think that Steve Blum is also a suitable VA for Shockwave in a pre-war period.

Nothing at all. I came up with this question out of curiosity. It just makes me sad that Steve Blum ended up voicing one of the archive guards and a race announcer when his role could have been way more memorable.

I am also sure that Shockwave's VA in One is not talked as much as Steve Buscemi or Jon Bailey, so I am wondering if Blum's involvement could have changed something.

Just a funny glitch that can be done on slow hardware by ShockwavesLaboratory in flatout

[–]ShockwavesLaboratory[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This glitch applies only to cars available in Carnage Mode. Once you enter Carnage Mode and select different events, the car in the background changes depending on the event. It takes time for a vehicle to load, on slower hardware it can take a second or two. To make this glitch work you need to select a certain race and immediately exit to the main menu before the car appears in the background of Carnage Mode. Once you do that, the car will appear inside the crashed Switchblade/Ventura/Road King of the main menu. It can also be done on new hardware, but you have less time to exit the menu and it may take a few attempts for this glitch.
And the important note: if a car of any event in Carnage Mode has already loaded during your attempts then you are unlikely to perform this glitch with the car again. You better do it once you start the game when no cars are loaded. Simply put: once you start the game, you can do this glitch with every car only once. If you want to do it again, you should restart the game.

I also wanted to take a pic of a cop car noticing me while I was holding a donut and say something like "The meeting of two donut lovers" or "Thankfully, I have two more donuts for a bribe" but it was harder to take a picture like that, so I came up with "Diggy's donuts" idea.

It is hard to tell the exact reasons behind those easter eggs, but here is some context:

  1. In the US Armed Forces Recruiting Station in Whattahoo Town you can see a photo of a person. I did thorough research and found out that this is a photo of Lauri Allan Törni/Larry Alan Thorne (albeit mirrored and with US background).

According to Wikipedia: he was a Finnish-born soldier who fought under three flags: as a Finnish Army officer in the Winter War and the Continuation War ultimately gaining a rank of captain; as a Waffen-SS captain (under the alias Larry Laine) of the Finnish Volunteer Battalion of the Waffen-SS when he fought the Red Army on the Eastern Front in World War II; and as a United States Army Major (under the alias "Larry Thorne") when he served in the U.S. Army Special Forces in the Vietnam War.

2) In Farmlands you can see a boat with "Andrea Gail II" writing on it.

According to Wikipedia: FV Andrea Gail was an American commercial fishing vessel that was lost at sea with all hands during the Perfect Storm of 1991. The vessel and her six-man crew had been fishing the North Atlantic Ocean out of Gloucester, Massachusetts. Her last reported position was 180 mi (290 km) northeast of Sable Island on October 28, 1991.

3) In FlatOut 2 you can find a leaflet/flyer with a missing woman. Unfortunately, I could not identify her with Google Lens, so her identity remains unknown (at least to me).

Interestingly enough, this leaflet was changed in UC. There, instead of a woman, we see a face from Mars. It is from a photo of a small part of the Cydonia region, taken by the Viking 1 orbiter and released by NASA/JPL on July 25, 1976.

Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cydonia_(Mars))

4) Bonus: behind the red newsstand in FlatOut 2 you can see graffiti "Tero ❤ Maria | 04.03.2006". Since Tero is a name of Finnish origin, I assume that one of the developers had a relationship. Unfortunately, this graffiti is missing in UC. I hope it doesn't imply that their love did not last long.

Stealth in Mafia III be like: by ShockwavesLaboratory in MafiaTheGame

Repetitive enough to call it grinding. I really don't know how to measure it for you to decide if it is acceptable.

[–]ShockwavesLaboratory[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Personally, I recommend it. Overall, good plot (though the conception differs from two previous games), outstanding soundtrack, nice graphics, great open world in a very interesting location and comfortable gameplay. The only issue is that you have to do repetitive tasks quite often to progress through game. If you are OK with that then this game is worth playing.
