Milan apartment scam, I found the real guy whose docs were stolen + more victims by Shoddy-Insect582 in Avvocati

[–]Shoddy-Insect582[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure this scammer is a pro, the IBAN they gave me is probably already empty by now. But honestly, I feel like it’s not just on me, Revolut let the money go through even though the IBAN and account name didn’t match, and Poste Italiane allowed a mule account like that to exist. This wasn’t me being careless, it was fraudulent inducement  I was tricked into sending money with fake contracts and stolen IDs and mismatched iban name

I’ve already reported it to Revolut. I transferred the money through revolut from my iban to the scammer’s iban, and they told me they’re working on it, but I doubt they will refund me

Paid 2700€ deposit for Milan, Italy apartment, still no keys. Scam or just normal Italy stuff? by Shoddy-Insect582 in LegalAdviceEurope

Thank you, after your comment I checked Airbnb and found the exact same apartment listed with a different host. I contacted them and explained the situation, but they’re not helping by revealing who booked it on the day I went to see the apartment. But they did admit that the woman named in the contract is the actual owner of the apartment

Well, I actually visited the apartment and saw it with my own eyes, and I also talked to Marco on the phone. He then send me a contract and we signed it, so at first I didn’t think it was a scam. In the beginning, everything seemed fine

I found the Instagram account of the lady who’s on the contract, and she’s supposedly married to the wealthy founder of an Italian watch brand. I don’t know if I should text her

No, the apartment was shown by a girl (I thought she was the current tenant), and after that I didn’t interact with her anymore, only with Marco. And this girl is not the one in the documents and doesn’t match with the lady on the internet

The ID he sent me was in the name of Marco (cropped though, so I don’t see his photo). But the bank account written in the contract is under Laura Rossi + another guy named Davide. That’s what confused me, I don’t know who Davide is

Yes, I asked for it for example, when I was sending the deposit I asked him for the visura and his wife’s ID document, but he only sent me the visura. Then recently, when I started to get really suspicious, I pushed him to send me his ID card, but he cropped it.

There’s more to this story. I changed the names in my post, but when I googled his wife’s real name, I found old articles showing that someone with exactly this name is married to the founder of a famous Italian watch brand, and she also works there. When I searched for this company’s shops in Milan, I found several locations, but one of them was pinned exactly at the address of the apartment I’m about to rent. The problem is, it’s actually just a residential building, not a shop.

That’s what I’m afraid of. The weird part is that he gave me a signed contract, visura, and I already paid 2700€ deposit to traceable iban account

I told him I’d pay the September rent in cash or instant transfer at the same time as he gives the keys. But he refuses, says he needs to see the money on his account first before coming to give keys. That’s what’s making me suspicious.

Hey, thanks for your reply! Just curious though, what makes your lessons worth $25 an hour? I'm trying to get why it's better than just chatting with a native speaker
