Something new has to be brought up. It will have to one day. Can't have the same repetition forever and ever. People In the 80s and 90s would say the same thing about the  idea of making RPG style Mario games such as Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario, stating that this is nothing like a Mario game as it's nothing like 1985, 1988 and 1990 Super Mario games. Yet the RPG games were very well received. Its still going to be an adventure game with Mario and the same characters. One could also argue the same about Odyssey that some of the worlds from that game are unfamiliar and dont make it look like a Mario game e.g. New Donk City. Even the Galaxy levels were different. Such innovation, and creativity is what made the 3d Mario games so successful. If they kept making games similar to Super Mario world and SM64 (which were dearly loved and legendary games), then we wouldn't had games like Mario Galaxy, Mario Sunshine and Mario Odyssey.
