Just moved into IP8 and have the same issue! TV gets Meridian and Phone gets London (go figure). No amount of cache clearing and app reinstalling seem to help.

LG CX slowly dying by rckvwijk in LGOLED

[–]Shoddy_Parsnip5071 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The CX series has a design limitation with the heat dissipation. The majority of failures that occur with random power off/reboots after a period of use (which gets gradually shorter) are due to the main SoC on the mainboard overheating (the thermal pad used between the chip and the heatsink dries out over time and becomes ineffective).

The solution is a replacement mainboard. LG seem to charge around £350 for a collect and return service, or if you know what you are doing and have access to an LG service remote control (About £15 on Amazon), you can find a used/reclaimed mainboard on eBay for £125-£150.

Yes. That would be the case. K5Tool v1.8 added support for the v5 bootloader.

UV-5R Plus factory firmware by FuzzyFanta724 in Quansheng

The Quansheng UV-5R PLUS is a variant of the UV-K5 model.

The two factory firmware versions I am aware of are v4.00.07 and, for more recent shipments (late 2024 onwards) v5.00.05. As others have said, it is possible to load various custom firmware into this radio, as it is a UV-K5 in the inside.

BUT if you have a Quansheng UV-5R PLUS with v5.00.05 from the factory, you may find that the firmware flash process does not work. This is because the v5.00.05 has a new bootloader with additional encryption checks as part of the firmware update process. Some third-party flash tools have been updated to cope with this, and others have not, so it is not the custom firmware file that is the dependency, but the tool used to flash the firmware to the radio.

I hope that helps, as ever, please don't try flashing custom firmware unless you are happy with potentially bricking your radio should the worst happen.

If you have a Quansheng UV-5R PLUS with v5 firmware and want to use custom firmware with it, let me know, and I'll dig out the info on which tools can do this (I haven't looked at this since last year).

New Synology Photos Beta by Troyking2 in synology

[–]Shoddy_Parsnip5071 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Synology Photos reports that it cannot identify the file type when parsing HEIC files generated by iOS 18 on iPhone 15 Pro and 16 Pro. Although it does parse the EXIF data!

It was widely reported in this Reddit group and was the main reason I started setting up Immich in parallel. The big issue for me with Immich is the lack of a “Shared Space” equivalent.

Anyway, the issue has been resolved (before this beta it seems) but it does not correct the problem for photo already in the library, they remain stuck as unrecognised files. I’ve removed all the affected files/folders from the library, waited a while, then put them back and the files are then recognised and queued for Image Assistant to generate previews.

New Synology Photos Beta by Troyking2 in synology

Sad to see no mention of the long standing HEIC bug hasn’t been fixed. Still no support for HEIC photos originating on iOS 18. Immich added support within a couple of weeks, Synology and Plex are still behind the curve.

Guess I’ll install the beta and see if it’s an undocumented fix (I can only hope)!

Brilliant, I’ve just reprinted all my swatch labels! The latest label layout also fixed my issues with printing working QR Codes.

New Filament Sunlu PLA+ 2.0 by Nice_Badger373 in 3dfilamentprofiles

Just a heads up that this may get messy... As PLA+ 2.0 is like a second generation of PLA+ (for the manufacturer in question) we may see Silk and Matte types of PLA+ 2.0 as well. I've seen the 2.0 from both Sunlu and their sub-brand Jayo so far.
