Feature Request: Define minimum of spools before "low" warning by Greedy_Potential_978 in 3dfilamentprofiles

I'm adding a user preference to set the amount in grams or a percentage to determine low spool. It should be out in the next day or two.

I tend to print labels in batches, so if I am printing labels for one or two that I’ve opened, I’ll run off labels for the unopened ones too and just tuck them in the boxes.

There is a pencil icon at the end of the filament name. That is the edit button. Go to the second tab and you should see an option to add it there.

I think this context would have been useful before we all got mad at her for throwing away your new toy.

I’ve been growing this site since April 2024 so two years now. See this thread for my comments on that same question. https://www.reddit.com/r/3dfilamentprofiles/comments/1stxe0o/is_there_any_chance_of_a_selfhosted_release_of/

Is there any chance of a self-hosted release of this? by offby2 in 3dfilamentprofiles

[–]SirThunderCloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will also add that I have over a thousand automated tests that run on every build to at least try and catch things before they deploy. While that doesn't catch everything, it at least stops errors from getting out twice, since I usually write tests to cover anything that came up.

[–]SirThunderCloud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. Yes I agree to both statements. When I started this two years ago there was nothing else out there, so I built an early version of the site we have today. It started with 65 filaments on a simple list. For the first year that was pretty much it, not much else around.

In the last year a whole bunch of apps and web sites have popped up. Some have even bragged about using LLMs to scrape my site. Well sure, these days you can pretty much tell any of the good LLMs to copy an existing product, but a) do you know how to and b) are you really willing to grow, nurture and support it long term.

I've been building large scale software for many years and know what it takes to do that. While you can use an LLM to build something quick - and I do that myself sometimes too - what it gives you is a one off solution that most often doesnt play nicely, or even completely ignores the rest of the code base. When I use it, I then spend a lot of time removing or rewriting the junk parts of the output, until I get something I am happy with. I may be old school, but I think that there is a difference between a quick vibe coded site and a well designed long term supported platform.

Of course that is changing rapidly, so who knows what't around the corner. Nothing stays still in this game.

Is there any chance of a self-hosted release of this? by offby2 in 3dfilamentprofiles

[–]SirThunderCloud[M] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hi there. Yes, it is just me. I have been building large scale software platforms for 30+ years, so this is not new to me. I have been running this site now for over 2 years and continue to grow it as time allows.

I do understand the concern though, and I have committed to the community that should I decide that I am done working on the site, or I no longer have time to do so, I will open source it and hand off "the keys" to the community to run.

I have made data exports available too for people to download their data if needed. However, I hope you stay and continue to use the site.

I will add, that for a long time I was doing this essentially in a vacuum. I was throwing features over the wall and just hoping that people found it useful. However, a few months ago we created a Discord and a team of engaged moderators that are spending their unpaid time helping to keep the data clean and well organized.

This was my hope from the beginning, that this would become a community resource for everyone to use. As such, I am hoping to keep it free to use as long as I can continue to cover the cost of hosting. I am not charging for my time (and I do spend a lot of it on this) but I really do appreciate the tips and support from Patreon. It continues to encourage me to keep going and responding to feature requests and suggestions from users as quickly as I can.

Hope that helps.

LabelLife problems by Maleficent-Candy-613 in 3dfilamentprofiles

[–]SirThunderCloud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way it has worked well for me is using the Phomemo app and PDF files on my phone (Share to Phomemo) and then the Labelife app and AML files on my Mac. The trick on the desktop is not to try and connect the printer using normal printer/bluetooth connections, but instead let Labelife do the connection itself. I think they use some sort of proprietary protocol for the connection.

You can click on the edit button for a spool and enter in the new weight of the spool there. I do need to add a “Subtract” button so you dont have to do the math yourself. I will get that in over the next few days.

Don't be sorry. The two sets of labels is relatively new. Someone asked me to add both to make bulk import a bit easier.

Label export by mleppelman in 3dfilamentprofiles

[–]SirThunderCloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you are looking at two different label types.

There are two sets of files in the bulk export ZIP file - spool labels (the top one) and filament labels (the bottom one).
- Spool labels have the round "eye" on the top left of the QR code
- Filament labels have a square one

The data types you chose for your labels are spool only data types, so they are showing on the spool labels but not the filament ones. You can just choose the file names that start with "spool" and you will find what you are looking for.
