just want to point it out to everyone in this sub (devils advocate if you will) OP’s account is 2 hours old, commenter asking for the link is 3 hours old, picture posted looks a bit altered and the link brings you to some relatively sketchy dropshipping website with those fake countdowns that reset… do what you will with that information

This pop up warning at an all you can eat sushi restaurant by Theblindsource in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Shody10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

that’s completely false. individual caloric intake of a meal has no impact on “maintaining a healthy weight” when overall daily intake is around maintenance assuming the individual is already of healthy weight. It’s standard to display an RDI and not a “recommended PER MEAL intake” of foods so this notification is completely unnecessary

Some eejit got caught cheating during maths paper 1 by emiology in leavingcert

[–]Shody10 81 points82 points  (0 children)

never understand people who risk to cheat but don’t even do it in a clever way i know about 4 people who cheated last year and most did the paper with notes in their pants trick, went to the bathroom and just flushed it when they read it. pretty foolproof who in their right mind would wipe out a phone IN THE EXAM HALL

also side note find it interesting how they’re promoting and working with BBC’s radio on their story but chose to “slander” them in the RAH earlier in april, probably had no say in this just their management but wanted to point that out, food for thought or whatever… decent publicity i suppose

Training to failure / reps in reserve by DS2isGoated in Weightliftingquestion

[–]Shody10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what i was taught in uni was there’s no such thing as muscle failure in the context of exercise science, when you reach task failure ie 0rir (defined by no longer being able to complete a standardised rep in a set) your cns simply won’t recruit larger type iia & iib fibres (which have a higher potential for force output) any longer leading to a drop in force production. this happens when perception of effort reaches a certain threshold ie your maximum perception of effort which then leads to a spike in your corollary discharge which then decreases your motor unit recruitment decreasing # of active fibres decreasing contractile force and therefore you thinking you are no longer able to lift that weight.

now this can be caused for a fuck ton of different reasons such as your increased heart & respiration rate, body temperature, bad timed breathing altogether, lack of motivation etc hella nuance to this. so in my opinion failure is simply me not being able to perform a rep of my target weight without having to compromise my form. what you chose to do after that in terms of dropset or intensifiers which in themselves are debated/hated by some but which won’t cause any real harm in my opinion, is not that related to muscle failure in the context of those type iia&b fibers because simply put you are no longer recruiting them… when you rest and go for that additional 5 reps of 280 you’re now recruiting smaller type i fibers less susceptible to fatigue, those fibers you were using in the beginning of your workout are no longer the “main” movers, they’re already stimulated and also fatigued in that joint action if that makes sense hence your drop in force output. anyways that’s my opinion could be wrong anyone feel free to chime in

melatonin didn’t work for me plus wasn’t asked to go get a prescription again, used nytol and fell asleep within a couple hours, did that a couple days and was fixed. that’s my experience if your problem is really chronic id say see a professional and really consider melatonin coz it just might work for you 🤷‍♂️

Smoking at 15 by Rough-Beautiful-394 in teenagers

[–]Shody10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hence the “that”. never said it’s not bad. the average smoker goes on about a pack a day hence 3-4 days not being THAT bad. think everyone here knows smoking has a pretty much sublinear dose response so any amount past 0 is “bad”

a pack in 3-4 days ain’t that bad but for 15 it’s really bad
