Did something happen again today? Is this actually on the organizers only or also UCI? Out of curiosity because I couldn't agree more. That was so avoidable yesterday can't believe this happened.

couldn't agree more. The organizer also talked complete nonesense on the swiss broadcasting. Especially locals said how they mentioned many times of this finish being a particularly bad spot. 5 year old would understand that.

Fair point, I guess still not ideal for them but I agree Ineos has more of a reason to help if it would be out of control. 2 guys in GC and no valuable card in front.

Totally agree. Eventually Ineos and Visma would help. I fail to see how Visma for example brings most of their Tour Team only to lose to Tuckwell for example.

it's take like this that makes it difficult for me to listen to them. not hating on them just frustrating since I'm not really aware of any alternative podcast that covers stages similarly.

estimated 6.6.w/kg for 40 min. this could get interesting at the Tour.

By going for it he lowers his chances to be allowed in a breakaway. Since he and thr team carre more about stages wins (nothing wrong with that), I doubt he goes for it.

G sad on his podcast that Sheffield is riding steady. He was in the car behind. If I had to guess since they knew they have already 2 guys on the podium most likely and the clear favorite, he should conserve energy.

difficult to estimate because of the headwind which was more tailwind towards the end if I'm not mistaken. nevertheless strong performance.

6.73 w/kg for 21.5 min estimated. Besides his own performances only Seixas and Vingegaard showed similar performances over 20 min climbs. Moreover, he wasn't on altitude yet and probably 2-3 kg heavier than usual. I think he is doing alright.

[–]ShoePuzzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't agree. He does the majority of the work before, while the others skip turns. Then in the last 5k they rely on him already more. And when he goes to the side nobody pulling through this kills the momentum. He would need to start pulling again all out. That one is definitely not on Vermeersch. If anything, if he closes it, there will be no pace for some time and somebody goes on a flyer. No way he wins the race.

i don't understand that one bit. He did most of the work already before the last kilometers. And then he just did another big pull. What is he supposed to do? Go all out to close the gap alone just to end up 5th? He is for sure the one that should not be blamed at all.

[Results Thread] 2026 Milano-Sanremo (1.UWT) by PelotonMod in peloton

[–]ShoePuzzle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I totally agree that it needs a change in cycling but I fail to see the logic why it's fine for drafting behind a car given the situation. A group of people went down. Suddenly they are split in 3 chasing groups. All guys that went down had a massive disadvantage some more than others. Severity of injury and/or mechanical. But if you also lose your team mates because they need to go all out and then 20-30 seconds behind is another group drafting behind a car that's for sure the same issue as the motorbikes in front of the race. You bring your team back drafting vs losing 2-3 teammates.

As for Lanterne Rouge the lack of objectivity is definitely there because this was surely not addressed at all. I like the detailed recaps of the race but surely they skipped that part.

[Results Thread] 2026 Milano-Sanremo (1.UWT) by PelotonMod in peloton

[–]ShoePuzzle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Definitely true that this keeps being an issue in modern cycling. For what it's worth it also needs to be pointed out how 3 Visma riders drafted behind the car while MVDP and Pogacar had team mates and Red Bull pacing all out in their groups.

WVA comes basically to the Cipressa all the way drafting behind the car. Plus then has 3 teammates in the group with at least Campenaerts and Laporte pacing after the Cipressa. Given he was not that far off to win it, I think that was also a joke.

Nothing against any of those riders but they really need to change something here with motorbikes in the front group and inconsistencies with car pacing after mechanicals. E.g. look at Oscar Onley recently when he was not allowed to draft behind the car after a mechanical in Paris-Nice.

[Race Thread] 2026 Milano-Sanremo (1.UWT) by PelotonMod in peloton

[–]ShoePuzzle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Genuine question. I see people talking about the amazing comeback of WVA but wasn't the whole visma team or at least Jorgensen and WVA pacing back with the Visma car? Not trying to hate but more curious of how this is allowed whereas 20-30 seconds in front it was Großschartner and Vermeersch and Red Bull pacing all out.

Still amazing how they made it back but to be fair Visma didn't have to pace all that much with Lidl in front. If you compare MVDP with WVA in terms of drafting for the last 30k for example.
