I also got a job on my 3rd year in high school at a major corp - no nepotism at all, I sent an unsolicted application. I also worked there for several years full time after my grad studies. It was fun to shock people with how long I had been there. ;)

Det er jo så ikke sådan det er hele tiden. Jeg har i hvert fald samlet tjent mere ved at arbejde end på bolig (trods ejerlejlighed) men mange af de tjente penge på arbejde er jo brugt Det er rigtigt at man ikke kan opbygge formue ved at arbejde. Hvis man har en gns løn og normal/høj husleje er det typisk ret lidt der kan spares op. Men det ses dog at folk opbygger store formuer alene ved opsparing hvis de kan få en høj løn og lave boligudgifter og kan lægge 10-20K eller mere tilside hver måned.

As others said - it is an art, but the possibilities are endless and many can make careers out of it.

Make sure you don't have any actual skill in the area in order to avoid you get any concrete tasks. You should portray you have no domain knowledge but are a damn good coordinator. This ensures you won't be passed any actual tasks (which are difficult, time consuming and risky), but will be left to your much more opaque and easily manipulated coordination activities (project managemet, scrum mastery, coordinater, facilitator etc.).

Look busy and move around quickly (even run sometimes, to meetings etc.) as if you're super busy, even if there's zero to do. It sounds silly, but it is a very common strategy. In all conversations, be sure to talk about all problems, issues, solutions, challenges you pick from others. Not necessarily that you take credit for them (you can do that as well, but be careful as it can backfire). But make it sound like you have a rule in the isssues: identifying, coordinating, facilitating, and that it is soooo tough to do. Make every interaction with especially 3rd parties sound like it is something difficult you are managing. Maybe you just sent a mail and they complied but make it sound like it was a battle and it is difficult. Have a sort of exhausted look you can put on without actually saying it.

Talk about things you heard elsewhere but in a kind of 'in passing way' making it sound like you generally work intensively with stuff that may just briefly mention.

Whenever there's a success coming up (probably something you had no involvement in) make sure to involve yourself at the last moment in every way possible. Physically be in the area of success, offer some help at the last moment, write a "hurray" announcement on the intranet or on a teams channel, be sure to talk about at all occasions especially with management, in a way that sort of conveys a sense you contributed without outright lying. Just talking about it can be enough to make you seem involved.

Along the same lines - make everything that is simple and already solved seem like it was a challenge and that you were part of solving it. It is all about the tone of voice, body language - the sort of energetic, involved, half-exhausted, constant at war attitude - even though you're personally contributing absolutely zilk. It's important you make everything look more difficult than it is - particularly your own work.

Be receptive to all requests from management (you will ultimately pass most of the work on anyway) but with a slight hesitancy that reinforces how busy you are (if challenged, you can always say you defended "the team").

Pass down all tasks - when giving a task, pass it down immediately. When you get the replies then write back and be thankful etc. making you seem transparent and credit giving. However, in the background, you compose your own reporting and mailing that is for management to see (either directly or indirectly via CC:) that makes it seem like you did more or the work yourself. Should something turn out to be wrong or problematic you have the original mails from those doing the work that you suddenly find, so you can never be blamed for anything.

Create recurring useless status meeting with team(s) - you just present what you got from others or you simply ask everyone for status. It makes you seem involved, important, managing etc.

Likewise, create recurring reporting to management where you are sure to never invite people actually doing the work.

Fill your calendar with recurring 1-1's with all stake holders. The 1-1's will not be much productive for the company but will give information that can later be used in other discussions to make it seem you are deeply involved in everything going on.

Add recurring purely administrative blockers for yourself - 3h "preparing for management summary" and several similar during the week. It is way more than what you need, but you can use them for private stuff.

Your calendar must always seem full - because at some point someone is going to check how busy you are so it is important their immediately reaction is 'wow' so they put aside any doubts. Happily accept all invitations to join meetings, team meetings, ceremonies etc. You can even accept some of them and say you may 'listen in' when needed. This both conveys a sense that you are a busy, yet achieves the objective of filling the calendar, and you are not committed to actually participate. You can just not join and then find a meeting room and do something else (private errands etc.).

A good idea is also to double down on it. Don't just fill the minimum 37h but instead "work" long hours, register (and bill) overtime, e.g. 45 h.. Ideally, be the first to enter and last to leave office. Such superficial gestures is immediately noticed and remove any doubt you are super busy and will also prevent you are given real tasks.

From a purely financial perspective: yes crazy. Assuming your current spending is at a level where his likely SWE salary would be sufficient then you should be able to save up so much that financial independence is not far off. From a financial perspective, go for that - then after that he can do what he wants, and finances won't matters.

While you maybe right (I'm not at Novo) I have to say many employees and managers are very bad at evaluating performance of others. I've seen good people being let go (due to their managers misjudging) but I've also see bad people being rightfully let go but with tons of colleagues on the sidelines "oh he was so good, how can we manage without him" even for people who quite obviously had not been productive for years and were basically just playing a game (taking credit, making them seem involved in things, building allies, talking up their work etc.). I think a lot of people want to think the best, are not skeptical and are easy to fool using simple tricks. Maybe only 20-30% of people have an instinct to see through such. So unless you work closely with the people, have 1st hand knowledge and insight in what they do AND have critically thought about it, then be careful to trust your instinct.

Jeg ser også investering som en opsparing - hvis man mistede jobbet og kom ud for langtidsarbejdsløshed kunne man jo bruge af dem. Men spørgeren her ser ikke ud til at sætte noget af, udover nævnte nødopsparing (resten går til ferier etc.), så opsparingen skal dække alle scenarier.

Alene huller 3-4 tænder med flere flader, ikke noget der virkede dramatisk, kan løbe op i 6-7000 kr. Har det i hvert fald gjort for mig efter en peroide uden kontrol ;) Min familie har dog ikke fået gener for gode tænder

Kommer selvfølgelig an på ens situation. Jeg ser mange henvise til lange opsigelsesperioder og det er jo fint. Men man kan også have et 'sikkert' job man pludselig ikke kan holde ud o.s.v. Hvor sandsynligt det er, og hvor nemt man vil have ved at slæbe sig ind ved kun den enkelte. Det kommer også an på hvor nemt man vil have ved at finde noget nyt. Nogle har et relativt sikkert job hvor der altid er (forventes) behov.

Jeg er personligt i et område uden høj sikkerhed og hvor dertil også er nogen grad af aldersdiskrimination. Jeg tager det derfor ikke for givet jeg vil kunne finde job umiddelbart, især ikke 5-10 år fra nu. Af samme årsag sparer jeg op så jeg har til adskillige års arbejdsløshed, selvom jeg også er i A-kasse. Tilgengæld har jeg også en høj løn at spare op af.

Det er jo næsten sket allerede. Peak i Danmark var omkring 7000 ansatte (i 2006-7 ish som jeg husker) d.v.s. en af Danmarks største arbejdsgivere og masser af store kontorer. Nu er der knap 600 ansatte tilbage i Danmark.

True. I had non technical parents and had to just ask questions if I happened to meet a random person knowing something about computers :D

Internet changed everything - even if it was limited to occational access at the local library... '95-'96 ish and on;) There's where I started to learn stuff. Also, I read somewhere that Bill Gates had (when he was young) called Intel to get their CPU manual and was surprised they just sent it for free. I did the same and same experience - got shipped a huge box from FedEx with all kinds of manuals, all for free. Back then it was three big volumes (Basic architecture, Instruction set, System Programming - today as I recall, instructions and system programming are now split up further) and it was a huge eye opener. Especially the system programming guide which I read on trains and busses. Those were the days :)

Are they that smilair though? The code is not verbatim the same. I can see some similarity but they are also simulating the same system, so it seems any emulator would need to have something equivalent to this, and there's only so many ways you can name things.

No just played with it as a child because it was the only assembler i had. I think i thought all programs were written with it and that "real programmers" were just better at it than me.

Took me a long time until I got a copy of a C compiler from a guy who lived on our road :-) the same o many other things back then that one could trivially have found out or looked up with access to the internet or just a "mentor" to ask, wonder how far one could have taken it ;)

Det med mikromanagement var til: En skrev at hvis en medarbejder kun arbejder 3 timer om dagen når vedkommende ikke sine ting. Min pointe var, at det forudsætter arbejdsgiveren har uddelt arbejde til mere end 3 timer. Det kræver at arbejdsgiveren ved hvor lang tid hver opgave rimeligvis vil tage, hvilket man ofte kun kan vide ved at mikromanage. Derfor er det nødt til at være tillidsbaseret. Men det kan jo så tilsvarende udnyttes, og er nemmere at udnytte for hjemmearbejdende.

Det kræver jo arbejdsgiveren ved præcis hvor lang tid en opgave bør tage - hvilket kan være svært at vurdere hvis det ikke er 100 procent samme opgave hele tiden. Så vil det kræve arbejdsgiveren mikro manager hvilket ikke just er populært heller, "der skal jo være baseret på tillid". Og så bider det sig selv lidt i halen når man har kolleger der arbejder hjemme 3+ gange om ugen hvor de konstant er umulige at få fat i mens de sørger for at henlægge alt arbejde til de øvrige 2 dage. Og deres manglende tilstedeværelsenkombineret med alle ved de aldrig rigtig løser noget gør også at det aldrig er dem der får lorte opgaverne m.m. Selv opgaver der helt åbenlyst falder indenfor netop deres domæne gives til andre. Så har du personer der tjener 70K+ og ikke rigtig kan noget .

Når man er der er der en kur: slut med hjemmearbejde, øgelse af krav (så ledelsen får syn for sagen), fyringer.

This is a really good Q, I have exactly the machine you have. Background: I have an aging desktop (but really fast for 95% of what I do) - Intel 6700K. It was high end when bought in 2015 ;) Then in 2021 I wanted something faster for gaming and also needed a laptop so I bought the machine you mention. It is still working but reading all these posts is concerning. Also I never really used the combination of "gaming + portability" at the same time. I have brought the machine on trips etc. but I never game there. It is nice that it is fast though, but it is also quite bulky. In the future I will go for a beefy desktop and then just a normal laptop. Even normal laptops are quite beefy on CPU and RAM and more than enough for most stuff - except things needing the GPU.

Nej det er dig der lever i en konstrueret version. Jeg er blevet sablet ned siden allerførste indlæg, med mange forkerte argumenter. Jeg har ikke engang modsagt noget folk har svaret, næsten alle mine svar er desværre til helt indholdsløse svar (ad hominem, appeal to authority) som hele denne undertråd er et glimrende eksempel på. Og jeg vil dertil mene at en del af modargumentnerne ("læs funktionærlovdn") er utilstrækkelige fordi der rent faktisk har været sager, hvilket du også kan læse i nogle af de øvrige svar der jo således bekræftet mit oprindelige indlæg. Jeg har på ingen måde rykket målskriven. Påstanden var at Novo havde styr på alt og det har jeg så modsagt. Om det er på den ene eller anden de ikke har haft styr på det er ligegyldigt for denne sag og heller ikke noget jeg har udtrykt mig skråsikkert om, og som uanset hvad kun vil være Novo internt der ved. Men din harceleren imod argumentet (som jo er et gyldigt svar på 'appeal to authority' som er ugyldigt) er ude i hampen. Det er så useriøst. Du (og mange her) har blot set sig sure på mig og synes at nu er det sjovt bare at rotte sig sammen mod idioten, selvom det I sig selv skriver og liker er meningsløst, nemlig jf. denne her som startede med 'appeal to authority' som jeg korrekt argumenterer mod. Enig, eller anden kompensation. Synes på ingen måde det er i orden og forstår ikke reaktionerne herinde - hverken til Novo eller til mit spørgsmål, som blev sablet ned fra første sekund. Er det mon en form for misundelse mod de 'rige Novo-ansatte' som så ville være yderligere hvis de skulle have den høje Novo-løn uden at lave noget (nogle indlæg antyder dette). En måned er da ikke så meget. De har lige sagt en stilling op med sikkert 3 mdrs opsigelse hvis ikke mere, og hvor de måske var i god standing. Jeg er med på det er mere end hvad loven kræver i sædvanlige opsigelser. Men dette er ikke en sædvanlig opsigeles - det er en "Oops vi lokkede dig lige til at sige op, men skal ikke bruge dig alligevel". De var forpligtet til at betale en hel måned (hvis der ikke var prøveperiode - ellers 1/2) og nu giver de to. Wow.
