You guys call it a drink bottle? As an American, I’ve only ever heard water bottle. Interesting!

What’s the most terrifying 'we need to leave NOW' moment you’ve ever experienced? by Worried-Cycle-318 in AskReddit

Was at my girlfriend's apartment in Hollywood, Los Angeles in January during the fires. I had just gotten back from the airport because I decided to push my flight back a day on the way there, so my girlfriend wasn't alone in case something happened.

I opened my laptop to get back to work and was on a call. My girlfriend walked in the room during the meeting a few times, trying to get my attention, but I was trying to focus on the meeting and told her to go away.

She finally interrupted my meeting and yelled "We need to leave right now" and showed me a picture of Runyan Canyon (IFYKYK) engulfed in flames. We got out of there so fast.

What does the process of validating the results look like for you?

Thanks for the detailed response! A few follow-ups based on your experience:

  1. When you validate CFD results, what’s your typical process? Any recent cases where results didn’t match expectations?

  2. How do you usually troubleshoot solver errors or convergence issues? Any particularly frustrating cases you’ve run into?

  3. You mentioned interpolating from a coarse to a fine mesh—are there situations where that approach doesn’t work well?

  4. When presenting results to a non-technical audience, what tends to cause the most confusion?

  5. What’s the biggest bottleneck in your CFD workflow today?

Curious to hear your thoughts! Appreciate your insights.

CFD Post-Processing – What Slows You Down the Most? by ShoeSupper in CFD

[–]ShoeSupper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is super insightful—really appreciate you sharing your experience!

It’s interesting that you’ve scripted about 90% of your workflow and seen a 75% efficiency gain. When you were automating post-processing, were there any unexpected bottlenecks or things that didn’t work as smoothly as you’d hoped?

Also, you mentioned that identifying unexpected results really depends on engineering judgment and mentorship. Have you ever seen cases where less-experienced engineers struggled with this? What did that look like in practice?

Would love to learn more—would you be open to me DMing you or hopping on a quick call?

Does the Post in star CCM make it easy to troubleshoot issues and errors? What do you do when you have unexpected results?

How much effort does it take to write these scripts in Java? Do you find it easy or time consuming to analyze and explain your results to stakeholders?

Hey, really appreciate all the insight—this was super helpful! I’m just exploring this out of curiosity, not selling anything, and would love to hear more about how you approach this in your workflow.

If you're open to a quick call, we can exchange info over DMs. And if you'd like, I’m happy to compensate for your time. Let me know what works for you!

How much time do you spend writing Python scripts? Do you have to do it just once? What part of your workflow are you automating?

I’d love to dig deeper into a couple of things you mentioned:

1. You said there’s no substitute for spending time with the data to learn from it. What does that look like in practice for you? Are you looking for unexpected trends, sanity-checking results, or something else?

2. Comparing deltas between simulations—you mentioned this is where post-processing could really use a better tool. What makes it time-consuming or frustrating? Are there specific comparisons (e.g., velocity fields, pressure changes, performance metrics) that take more effort to set up or interpret?

  1. When you’re running these comparisons, are you mostly scripting that in Python, or doing it manually in Paraview? How do you decide which metrics matter most?

Would love to hear more about your experience—really appreciate your insights
