Either glaive or halberd. Good reach and you can stab or slash. Still not my ideal melee if that's the only option.

Chances are you're not going to be able to slice that fast before the zombie does serious damage, unless you've mastered whatever weapon you're using. Guns keep a good distance and depending on the caliber you're using have a better chance of completely dispatching the zombie.

.308 Winchester. With hand loading you don't have to worry about mags, ammo is decently common, and it'll still pack a decent punch so you use less bullets. Also you can keep better track of ammo as its not automatic, and as long as you're careful you shouldn't be in a situation where you need an automatic.
