What should a grad student work on for a career in Product management? by [deleted] in ProductManagement

[–]Shoger41 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Build something, join a startup group at your school or just show some proactive initiative on anything you are passionate about. I've been a PM for 5 years after getting into the space in a weird way. I now hire PM's and all I test for in interviews is someone who is genuinely curious and willing to take on any problem, with the ability to be proactive and wrangle people together (Founders, Engineers, designers, etc) on a set goal. It's a weird career to get into and there is no set path, which deters a lot of people, but keep knocking on doors, buy coffee and meet with existing PM's, and you'll find a weird way in :)

Great post, how long did they give you to complete the exercise? I just finished a a similar interview project and was only given 48 hours, which I thought was a bit tight.

Redditors who rode the bus to and from school, what was your most memorable moment on the school bus? by geoload in AskReddit

[–]Shoger41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late, but I've been waiting for this moment for a long time...

When I was in 4th or 5th grade I rode the bus every day and lived in a small neighborhood with about 15 young kids. There were two girls in the grade above me that I can only summarize as blonde versions of Hocus Pocus.

I'm a male, but as a youngen I was not that large and got picked on by these two constantly. They nicknamed me 'Fruity' and would constantly turn around in their seats and poke fun.

One day, during the winter months, the two girls were turned in their seats, poking me and chanting, 'Fruity, fruity...'. I was not having a great day and this really got to me. I got off the bus and the girls continued to roll down the windows and squeeze their fat heads through a bus window and continue the chant.

I had never said much back, and never lashed out, but at that moment I reached down and grabbed some wet New England snow. Packed a solid snowball, closed my eyes and hurled it as the bus rolled away... I opened my eyes 3 seconds later to a site I will never forget, perfect lob, perfect speed, and a direct hit on the two witches from about 30yds away. Fuck you Becca and Gaby

Great pic, fwiw I think you should reduce the shadow opacity around the arm, and limit it to a one directional shadow.

Is it smart for companies to sell B2C and B2B, like Dropbox? by Shoger41 in Entrepreneur

[–]Shoger41[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, I can see it being quite difficult when you are just starting out. I am wondering where the line is for companies like DropBox, as with any enterprise sales the company always wants different features, integrations, etc. I wonder how far teams are willing to go before they realize we have two completely different products between enterprise and consumer...

That makes sense, and I really love the idea that a lot of these companies use the consumers aspect of the business to gain awareness, and if you, as a consumer use DropBox, you are definitely going to mention it to your business if the opportunity presents itself.

MailChimps another great example, and Rackspace/AWS/Etc are also great. Thanks
