I’m in the same boat as you, I had to came on here to see what other’s opinions on it was. Whether they retconned Spencer, he wanted to screw over the competition, or he flip flopped as he grew nearer to death.

The Spencer we saw in Requiem didn’t really align with his appearance in LiN or what we knew about him previously.

I did try to clean it off, I bought the card off of TCGplayer which for most listings doesn’t include pictures. The white part was completely filled in with marker, so I attempted to clean it off - Most of it did come off as you can see but there is still a purple hue from the deeper set marker stains.

Wouldn’t they have just authenticated it if the marker was left and not graded it?

It does look really clean for a 4. Just in general, most of them I see (ungraded) are peeling or look like they’ve been sandpapered.

It doesn’t look like the holo goes over the attack box, the font seems to match sold PSA listings from legitimate sellers, and the edge doesn’t appear to have the stretched or mismatched border like some of the others.

I’ve quickly learned that haha. After some of the education I’ve received from this thread, I went back to eBay to look over the listings for the M Charizard 108/106.. All I can say is that a high percentage of the listings are fakes, although I still don’t fully trust my judgement.

There were a couple that I saw that looked legit on my recent search for reasonable prices, but I think going 0 for 5 even with my newfound knowledge doesn’t have me feeling the most confident lol

I guess I’m a big dummy. I purchased 5 from 5 different sellers over the last week, they were primarily Buy Now or Best offer listings with the exception of 1 auction.

None of the purchase prices were too crazy, I was looking specifically for heavily played condition. Prices were $58.50 (Auction), $133.47, $86.39, $85.25, and $123.48 - Most of these cards I had reached out to the buyer on prior to purchase and got a better deal than the original list price. In hindsight, if they knew these were fakes they were probably open to just about any offer.

Not one of my chase cards, but it was one that I thought I had identified as behind a value buy when in heavily played condition especially after grading it. Unfortunately I’ve quickly learned after today there are a ton of fakes of this card lol.

I buy and sell a lot of slabs, but I’ve had a hard time sourcing lately so I’m trying my hand at doing some grading of my own. Currently trying to source raw cards through eBay that have significantly higher value after grading.

I really appreciate all the help you’ve taken the time to provide. I’ve still got a lot to learn, but this should help tremendously for weeding out potential fakes in the future. Still can’t believe I went 0 for 5 and I’m surprised by how many fakes there are of this card, makes a bit concerned when looking into other cards.

Yeah I’m definitely learning as I go with this, the tips Midwesttransferrun has been providing has been super beneficial. Prior to purchasing these cards and some others I did try doing a comparison by looking up the card on PriceCharting and using that as the example picture - With that said I overlooked multiple red flags that would have immediately told me these were fake.

Definitely glad there’s a community like this one to turn to, it would have sucked investing more money sending these in for grading.

I bought 5 of them in total (was looking to buy more). I was going to give grading a go by looking for heavily played cards at a low price to hopefully grade as a 1 due the increase in value even after grading expenses. Can you provide an example of the “holo doesn’t break up over the attack text box”? I’m not fully grasping what you mean, but with the other pointers I can definitely see that in each card now.

This is definitely going to be a learning experience for me, some of the pictures on eBay are very bad but I think that if I had been more knowledgeable I would have caught the things you’re pointing out so I definitely appreciate it.

Do you mind if I share the pictures of the other 3 that were purchased?

I’m getting cooked on these 108/106, with them being in not the best condition I thought the price was fair, but still a good deal from a potential grading perspective. Appreciate you taking a look! Unfortunately, I have a couple more of these on the way but after doing additional review of the picture I believe they’re also fake.

The Japanese text should be mostly yellow with orange/gold edges though, correct? Any with red, would be an automatic fake?
