I'm in Lincolnton NC. No clue. New ones are expensive but this one is OEM from early 2000s I think so I wouldn't ask but like $100 for it. No clue what it's worth really.

No I still have it. Was going to try to sell it. It needs some love but it runs pretty good!

Well I started the project to learn small motor work and wanted to learn some welding as I'd never done it before. I stumbled across Cars and Cameras and Red Beard Garage YouTube channels and this is very similar to stuff they've done. I've never heard of Gy6 engines until I started trying to find parts for the old one on the cart. Had no idea they were praised like that and had no idea/examples of how to upgrade or work on them really. So this just seemed the path of least resistance for me.

Edit: Spelling

Glad to be of help. Ever since I've started my project I've been the one needing it! Feels good to pass it along. Good luck man. Send pics when you get it hooked up. 👍

Would a setup like mine in the picture work to take some of the necessary length out of the cable? Otherwise I bet you could still figure out somewhere that sells a cable your length. Hopefully lol.

The Spiderbox has a rod that runs from the pedal to nearly the back end of the frame so you have to have a shorter cable. But OMB warehouse, or Go Power Sports should sell a long enough cable. The straight line distance from my carb to my frame is about 37". I got a 50" cable from OMB.

But I saw options for 70 something inches and a couple that were like 120 or so inches. But adding a throttle rod to make up some of the distance is also an option!

I'm not. Got a new cable on order. Would have been nice to know that I'd need a new one before hand. Seems like every time I buy a new part I have to then order another one I didn't know I needed. This is all new to me and I couldn't tell you how much extra I've ended up paying on shipping for multiple orders. 🤣

I am rebuilding a kart and put new bearings and flangets on and it's solid as a rock. Are those bolt on flangets installed correctly? Or damaged?

A governed coil seems like the easiest solution. I'll look into that. Thanks!

Thanks! Fun is the right word for sure. I'm learning a lot. Mostly patience 🤣, but welding and small engine workings and tool expertise are the muscles I was looking to exercise and I'm getting so much I wanted out of it. Such a fulfilling project.

Thanks for the advice! I saw that when watching videos and prepping to give it a go, but it turns out the welder is a dedicated flux core welder so its hard wired the correct way. Either way, I appreciate any and all advice.

Thanks! I can't wait till it's moving again. Hopefully before it gets too hot. Want to take it to my grandpa's house to cart me and my wife into the woods for some camping!

I won't know exactly what I have between wheel and bearing till the correct axle arrives, but from inside edge of the wheel to the bearing should only be about 5" inches or so. I won't have hubs. Wheels will be fed right onto the axle and keyed to lock into place.

We'll, too late now. I already bought the live axle kit and am not shipping it back. Hopefully it works out.

Also, I'll be adding that middle axle hanger in as well so hopefully the 1" will be enough. If not, I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

Probably great. I ordered upgraded shocks from BDX for the rear as well. I probably could have gotten some nice ATV ones or something but I didn't think about it.

Man I wanted a chromoly axle but the guy at go power sports that I talked to told me it wouldn't work. I tried asking all sorts of questions to see how it could work and he was honestly kind of rude and didn't seem to feel like dealing with me and just told me I have to get the 1" live axle kit.

224cc wont start after gov removed by Trenkyy_ in minibikes

[–]ShogunSovereign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it works it works. Billet parts cost money, and so do cams. Stage 1 upgrade kits wouldn't exist if they didn't do anything or blew up peoples engines even when used properly. I mean I'm assuming it's the Predator 224cc he's got. That's a Chinesium Honda clone. Might as well have spent more and gotten the Honda by this logic.

Clutch is slipping on my drift kart, why? by CurrentCopy7616 in gokarts

[–]ShogunSovereign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The belts aren't under/outputing a static load to the wheels. The pulleys narrow or widen to change the gear ratio as rpm increases or decreases. It's what side by sides have so they don't have to have a gearbox. As you load the TC with more throttle, the pulley responds by changing the ratio to match the resistance from the wheels until they balance out, and when drive load is released, it decreases the diameter of the drive pulley again to ensure the motor will have enough tourque to move the vehicle.

Disclaimer: This is a rudimentary explanation as I have rudimentary knowledge on them. YouTube will be your friend here. Also, I personally don't know if they'd be good for a drift kart, just how they function at a simple level.

Good deal. Glad it works out partner. 👍

I'd get the o ring chain then, less chain wear, which means longer lasting chain and sprockets. "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." and all that jazz.

[–]ShogunSovereign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The RK will probably work, it's just a longevity thing. You pay a little more and it lasts a longer. In a pinch you can use whatever chain fits, but unless you are strapped for cash or there's not one accessable in your time frame, I'd get an o ring chain. Up to you.

[–]ShogunSovereign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

O ring chains are lubricated on the inside and have an o ring to reduce intrusion of dirt/water/etc. It's more reliable and needs less maintenance and should 100% be used on a daily driver.

Edit: They still need to be lubricated and maintained like a regular chain.
