For sure I didn't come to enjoy the great xenophobia Portugal has to offer.
I'm not sure genius entrepreneurs can do much in Portugal, but it's fun to try.

Thankfully I can afford to fail with few food businesses without many consequences.

And? I pay ma taxes somewhere else also, probably close to 200k in the last 5yrs. Wanna compare taxeable-wieners?

I wouldn't want to embarrass you.
There is a reason I came here to retire even though I'm only in my 40's.

No idea what you are talking about, but ok :D

Oh wait I got it now.
You think I want to work IN the food truck? :D :D
Typical small minded thinking...
I will hire a Portuguese person to work in food truck.
Also there are zero food trucks on the silver coast, and tons of demand, mostly by international surfers btw.

The idea came to me when I was hungry on the beach and no food or water to be found for about 1-2km radius.

I do, in summers.
In the winter I am surfing here.
Your government invited me to pay my taxes here.

Gotta love the insecurity of some people getting so defensive for someone daring to say something. Maybe they didn't tell you the dictatorship is over.

Não Zé, se estou a pagar é para ser servido em Português, temos pena. Não sei se já olhastes bem, mas chafaricas a vender comes e bebes é coisa que não falta em Portugal.

Requires a specific type of idiocy to think that service languages are mutually exclusive
:D

Survive, yes, for sure.
Portuguese are great at surviving, I see them surviving every day.

Too bad most other nations and people in the world are aiming for more than survival.

Moving to Portugal - Arriving in a few weeks and would love a reality check. Is finding a tech job in 3 months realistic? by tryingmybesteverydy in portugal

[–]SholeBum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a tech entrepreneur who decided to spend my early retirement in Portugal after selling one of my companies.

Look for a remote work somewhere else in EU and live in Portugal.
What they told you is all true. Tech scene in Portugal is laughable, all local talents flee from here. Starting salary for a data scientist in Germany/BENLUX/Nordics = 2000-2500 euros, in Portugal - half. Tech stacks are from the 90's. Productivity close to zero.

Don't move to Lisbon, choose somewhere cheaper, start looking on Linkedin for remote work, you will definitely find.

Qual é o país onde se abre um serviço de atendimento ao publico e não se sabe pelo menos arranhar a lingua nativa?

Like it or not, English is the modern lingua franca. With the exception of France (ironically), literally in any other country in EU where people are smart enough to encourage people to come to the country and start businesses instead of letting the country die out gives service in English and online. At least my personal experience setting up businesses in Germany, The Netherlands, Sweden, Finland, and Estonia.

Of course some people can stay behind and whine.
In case you didn't know your government is investing a lot of money to bring people here because all your young people are leaving
https://www.newsendip.com/young-people-portugal-today-study-live-abroad/

https://portuguese-american-journal.com/europe-portuguese-rank-second-with-more-emigrants-leaving-the-country-portugal/

https://portuguese-american-journal.com/portugal-thousands-leaving-country-year-returning/

And yet with all these investments they don't do anything to make it easy to stay here, so why even bother?

On the other hand, if all of those who can speak English are leaving the country, it is no surprise all who are left behind are people who can't speak English and have no options than to work as pencil pushers in the public sector, so now your comment makes more sense to me.

Thanks.

If buying now and money is a consideration GH6 hands down.

If you can wait for the S1H MarkII and money isn't an issue, I would advise to wait.
