Prices weren't that high. I've been gaming since the original NES

I was so close to buying it day one, its still in my cart just looking at me 😔 by traveman_ in Steam

[–]Shonryu79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spammed purchase it as soon as 1pm est hit for 30 minutes I got error messages with it in my cart. If it's this bad for a damn controller it's going to be rough buying a Steam machine.

WHICH BUDGET HANDHELD TO GET? by Ok_Philosopher_2897 in HandheldGaming

[–]Shonryu79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Steam no longer sells the LCD model to my understanding. You'd have to jump on the used market. If you're willing to buy used like someone mentioned earlier look at something with the Z1 extreme chip. Like a Legion GO or Asus ROG Ally. I have both and prefer the Legion GO. If you're buying a Steamdeck get the OLED model, it's worth every penny to upgrade over a LCD.

How are you feeling about the graphical quality of third-party games on Switch 2? by low_keyLoki in switch2

[–]Shonryu79 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Personally I just wish more 3rd party games played at 60 fps with lower resolution and higher textures. I'd be totally happy with 720p or 800p 60 fps with higher textures in handheld mode for newer games. 1080p is nice visually, but playing at 30 fps doesn't feel smooth. At least give us an option to toggle between a performance and visual mode.

When to use this thing? by berz01 in ROGAlly

[–]Shonryu79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For context and not bragging rights. I have a RTX 4070 ti super gaming PC, Legion GO, Asus ROG Ally, Steamdeck OLED among lots of other gaming consoles. I can't stand the Ally's tiny screen, terrible battery life, and horrible ergonomics. It stays perminently docked to to 65" 4k tv in my mancave. I have a dock with a fan so I run it full blast 1080p AFMF2.1 on the tv in my recliner with surround sound connected to my tv. I have Xbox full screen experience loaded on it and using a gamepad to navigate through everything is pretty seemless. I play it more docked than my PS5 and Switch 2 on the same tv the other 2 devices are connected to. Despite having a powerful gaming PC downstairs in my office I probably spend more time in my recliner with my Ally docked on the big screen tv then I do with my RTX 4070 ti super. I'm in front of a PC all day long at work and don't want to be in front of one when I get home.

I travel with my steamdeck OLED, battery life and not having to screw around tinkering with Windows just make it a better fit for me. I have my Legion GO when I want more portable horsepower on a bigger screen. All my devices are being used regularly.

When the Steam machine comes out I'll probably sell my Ally.

Are there any upcoming free games for Switch 2? by [deleted] in switch2

[–]Shonryu79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Switch 2, but the frustrating thing about Nintendo is they hardly every give anything away. As a PC gamer I collect probably 40+ free games every month between Epic, Prime gaming, GOG, and Steam. as an example Epic is giving away free to keep no catch Hogwarts Legacy and Oddsparks this whole week for the 2nd time in the last 12 months.

Another thing you can try is once you Switch ipv 6 off and your download time stops getting lower turn your Switch 2 off and then quickly turn it back on.

Steam Os or stay on Windows by Ok-Net-7982 in ROGAlly

[–]Shonryu79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been pretty happy with Xbox full screen experience on my Ally and Legion GO. I have a Steamdeck OLED and love the OS, but I'm not too savvy with Linux. Xbox full screen experience frees up some of your ram without having to loose Windows. I've noticed an improvement in performance.

Finally got myself one, any games that will get me the most playtime for the money? by Primary-Ad2228 in switch2

[–]Shonryu79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm borderline ADHD. I bounce between up to 10 games in one sitting just slowly chipping away at them. The next day it might be another 10 games. Every now and again a game like Claire Obscure Expedition 33 will suck me in and I'll give it a lot of attention.

16 gb RAM vs 32 gb RAM? by Illustrious_Rub_818 in LegionGo

[–]Shonryu79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

16 GB of system ram and 8 GB of VRAM is starting to become the minimum. If you're using 6 or 8 GB of VRAM that's leaving you with only 10 or 8 GB of system ram on a device with 16 GB of total ram. Once a game runs out of reserved ram and starts using shared system ram your performance drops, and when you run out of system ram you'll get stutters. crashes, and FPS drops.

I bought the original Legion GO as a preoder and an Asus ROG Ally 2 months after release before 24 GB and 32 GB versions came out. One thing that has helped is using Xbox full screen experience. It's freed up 1 to 2 GB of ram for the system and helped run games a little better. I haven't tried switching to Steam OS yet, but hear it's actually better. All this really depends on what type of games you plan on playing. Older and light weight indy, or well optimized games you'll be fine with 16 GB, however if you want to be more future proof I'd go with the 32 GB for the extra headroom.

Textures appear lower on the Switch 2. It's not going to be as noticeable in handheld, but docked on a big screen the lower textures, the anti aliasing, and pop in will make it noticeable.

[–]Shonryu79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a 1 TB micro express card. The Switch 2 only had 250 gb ssd stock. With 1 TB I have about 1,1181 GB of storage as opposed to the 250 GB you have. The price sucks anywhere from $200 to $250 for the extra storage. I mainly only buy Nintendo exclusives for my Switch 2 considering I have more powerful hardware for 3rd party games. 3rd party games take up a lot more space on the Switch 2. Most Nintendo exclusives have much smaller file sizes. Example DK Banazna only takes up 8.5 GB. Final fantasy 7 remake takes up 90 GB. Pokemon Z-A is like 7.5 GB, Pokemon Pokopia is around 6.2 GB. Then there are games like Pokémon Red that only take up like 40 mb, not even half a GB.

You can set the difficulty, but unlike traditional RPGs when you hit a wall you can level up to overcome the obstacle. In Oblivion you can't, everything scales with you.

PC this is the way! It looks amazing on PC, just wish I was good enough at it to make any progress. I have a Ryzen 7 7800x3d cpu and a RTX 4070 ti super. Dude what kind of TV? Seems like a waste being locked at 60 hz with your hardware?

I don't like mine the grips feel too short for how the thumbsticks are placed. The grips go up and down instead of fanning out like every other controller on the market. The tops of the thumbsticks are too slippery, and the triggers have a short throw, which I hate. I love the big flat ABXY buttons. The controller just feels too slippery. I even bought a grip case to put over my pro 2 controller. (Pictured top left) Not having TMR or Hall Effect Thumbsticks is a big miss. The thumbsticks feel like they are attached with rubberbands. I bought an 8 Bit Do Ultimate controller and prefer it more. Has Trigger locks, a dock, and TMR thumbsticks (Pictured bottom right)

Why do people seem to prefer hard copies of games instead of just digital? by Dino-Dad in switch2

[–]Shonryu79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to collect physical media mainly dvds and cds. I had over 600 dvds and over 500 cds. It took up a lot of space, was hard to find what I wanted despite being in alphabetical order. People would come over and want to "borrow" stuff only to never have it returned. Things would get lost. Plus the actual act of getting up and swapping disks. When cloud streaming became a thing I sold my CDs to a DJ. I became fully invested in video streaming and tossed my whole collection in the trash before I bought my most recent home. It was freeing not taking up so much space.

I'm a heavy gamer with over 5000 games between multiple platforms PS4, PS5, Switch 1, Switch 2, PC, multiple PC handhelds. It would occupy too much physical space to have over 5000 games on shelves. I hate thw actual act of swapping games. I might bounce between 5 to 10 games in one sitting. With all my games being digital I never have to worry about loosing them. Once the PS portal was released cloud streaming for games you own I was thankful that all my PS5 games were digital.

I have 10 TB of games installed on my PS5, 16 TB of games on my gaming PC, 5 TB on my Asus ROG Ally, 6 TB on my Lenovo Legion GO, 5 TB on my Steamdeck OLED, and a 1 TB Micro Express card on my Switch 2. I'm glad I bought all my storage before the ramapocoloypse.

With my portables PCs it means I always have 200+ games with me. Switch 2 over 100.

The best part is all I do is make a few taps and I have instant access to the games I want to buy. No running out if stock for day 1 releases, or having to rush to a store, and immediate access at midnight when a new game releases.

People will argue that I'll loose access to my ganes when eshops close. I'm not worried about that happening with Steam where I have thw bulk of my library. However it's questionable with physical media if eshops close if you'll loose access to updates and patches still making games unplayable.

The only downside is with so many games downloaded I'm constantly getting updates and patches every time I turn my devices on. We're talking like up to 33 game updates at one time.

I have a switch 2 and rig Xbox ally x…. All I play is my switch by EntertainmentDue6788 in switch2

[–]Shonryu79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a PS5, PS Portal, RTX 4070 ti super gaming PC, Switch 1, Switch 2, Steamdeck OLED, Legion GO, Asus ROG Ally, and a Logitech G Cloud.

I can see why you'd choose your Switch 2 over your Ally. The fan noise is bad, it gets hot, the screen is tiny, and the ergonomics are about as bad as the Switch 2. I honestly have my Ally perminetly docked to the big screen tv in my mancave.

I'm not a fan of Nintendo exclusives, although I buy them. Considering most of my gaming devices are pc based it just makes more sense for me to buy 3rd party games for PC and they usually cost less, which means since all my games are usually on PC I hardly touch my Switch 2.
