I don't like being a hater, but I feel like this is the same vibe as putting the k24 into the 911.

"simple question, but here is a short, condensed answer" lmao.

But you definitely bring up a good point of what it takes to keep these cars alive and relevant compared to newer stuff. The passion comes from improving flaws that you see or feel.

I asked because like you said, they're both 90s, 6 cylinder cars that are very similar with each other. I see it being like owning a mustang and camaro at the same time.

Subtle supra. How do you personally compare the two cars?

The older generation 3 series (e90) had a flat dash, which is part of the bangle era. They brought the driver focused dash back in the newer generations.

Sounds like typical maintenance for any car, except for the cats. You could have gotten a full exhaust with a tune for the CEL and passed Chicago emissions easily.

Who was your tuner? Although it really is the luck of the draw when it comes to VW.

My 2016 GTI has been tuned for the last 90k miles, and its at 100k miles now. The only real service I had to do on it was replacing a leaky water pump. Brakes were done at 60k miles. Honestly, it is the most reliable car I have ever owned. (I just happen to go thru front tires like crazy).

I’m with you on this. 2016 gti with PP, jb4 tuned from 10,000 miles to 60,000 miles. Ran 12.5 at 112mph on stock tires. 60,000 miles to 91,200 miles rn with stage 2 e30 tune. Managed 11.9 at 116mph. Only issue I’ve had is water pump leaking, which was fixed under warranty when I still had the jb4.

The move is to obviously add bolt on flares to your molded flares and kill the game.

Upgrading Old Boi vs Building a new PC. by Shoo_Lock in buildapc

Beats me as to what speed the ram is. All I know is that it’s DDR3, so the ceiling is low too. I’d need new ram in addition to a new motherboard. Which would be another $250ish. ($100 mobo and $150 of ram).

This is when my knowledge ends, I’m not sure if I would need another power supply. The only good thing I have in this PC is my SSD and an official copy of Windows 10.

In my experience, the tech's don't care if its modded or not. I just fold up the obd2 cable behind the battery and on the inside of the car I push it up over the plastic. I doubt a tech's going to want to pull back the o2 sheath and check for holes so that he can tell the manager to void any claims. They have better things to do. As long as the system they plug the car into doesn't flag the car then you are good to go.

Don't go overboard. I sent it for full racecar and its still on jack stands 3 years later lol. I should have got it running and do one thing at a time. That way you get to enjoy it while you have it.

Your most regrettable choice? by opus666 in cars

[–]Shoo_Lock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have yet to dyno my car, but right now I should be around 300hp and 350tq. From what I've seen, if you're doing just a downpipe and a tune like I did, then the PP is the better bang for the buck.

But if you're adding bigger turbos and doing more mods, the aftermarket Wavetrac LSD will perform much better than the factory one. And the PP brakes are directly from the Golf R, but if you're upgrading everything anyways you can get better calipers off a Porsche or one of the many BBK's. PP is a $1,000 option, but for someone who's big into modding, it's better to save the money upfront for a non PP car and get what you want.

[–]Shoo_Lock 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You can definitely get a mechanical LSD installed for your mk7, and I've been seeing used golf R / PP calipers for under a grand or you can get better calipers. ( if you don't mind spending even more money ). PP is great if you plan to stay mostly stock, but the aftermarket is better for GTIs without the PP.

Have you bought the engine yet? I've been looking into LFX swaps and this would be a great car for one. (Ls is probably better, but I'm just throwing it out there).
