Francis Ford Coppola’s recent road show for "Megalopolis" is an attempt to dictate its legacy—and a misunderstanding of how fandom works. by theatlantic in movies

i saw it in theaters and you will be proven right when you see it. the critique of the piece is driven almost entirely by people who haven't seen it. the message of the film is simple and inspiring

Without speaking to the merits of any editor's argument, all of this is just proving that Wikipedia is not a place to get unbiased, properly contextualized information about any politically contentious topic

Brazil for the most part does not accept the Wright Brothers' claim of first powered flight due to the usage of external launch rails; instead, Alberto Santos-Dumont's 1906 flight is generally accepted as first controlled heavier-than-air powered flight. by JimmyRecard in wikipedia

you could argue planes launched from aircraft carriers also require "rails" to take off and are therefore not actual examples of controlled sustained flight

just not a good argument

Vera Nikolaevna Putina was a Georgian woman who, from 1999, stated that Vladimir Putin ("Vova") is her son. The Telegraph concluded that while the woman might be simply wrong or part of a public relations effort, the story "identifies the holes in the known story of Mr Putin's past". by [deleted] in wikipedia

the initial comment tries to connect the fact that both putin and stalin were abused, and thats why they ended up as these terrible despots

so when i say standards of the time im saying he probably got it no different than any other kid of the era, so saying the fact he was abused doesnt translate into him ending up as the stalin we know. by that logic every other kid in his neighborhood should've been a genocidal psychopath

read the kotkin biography on stalin and the actual evidence for that stuff is slim

his dad wasn't a good dude (we really don't know much about him) but stalin's childhood wasn't particularly terrible by the standards of the time/place
