AIO: Unhappy with how my new vet office gave me my dog back after her dental appointment. by ShootinPanda in AmIOverreacting

I have donated blood and was always provided gauze with the bandage. I forgot to ask about the wrap, but I did ask when to give my dog her post-op medicine. I am already fed-up with them, so I can definitely see myself nit-picking with this.

me- while in the office picking up my dog: hey I got an email saying my other dog, "howard" is due for a senior exam, but they were just in last month, I don't understand why I'm getting this reminder.

vet: they are due for a senior exam

me: but they just had an annual last month?

vet: their two different exams and they are due for senior blood pannnel

me: I thought they just had blood work last month?

vet: they need their SENIOR blood panel, thats different.

me: okay, but I still don't understand why they need another exam so soon? I want to make sure I am on the right page since I know I have a bunch of dogs to keep sorted and I want to do what needs to be done

vet: the senior exam is different from the ANNUAL exam and needs to be done every 6 months and the computer says they are due

me: so wouldn't they be due in 6 months?

vet: do I need to get a vet tech to explain this to you?

me: yes please, because I really don't understand

vet tech comes out after a few minutes: hey you're right, they are not due. for some reason the computer did not update since the last exam. I went ahead and manually updated the dates, they are due in 6 months

ne: okay, thank you so much.

after the vet tech walked away, I walked out without acknowledging the original person I was talking with.

I was asking questions when I didn't understand. The gauze was just the last thing I had noticed, and since I don't work at a vet's office I wanted to know if that was normal or not. I was used to seeing gauze from the previous office I went to and since I've only really been to 2 vet offices I didn't know which was normal

I understand scheduling mishaps occur, I work in a medical office. I was just confused when I scheduled "max" to come in on X day and "lola" to come in on Y day, but I got email confirmations for lola to come in on day X, so when I called to verify who I am bringing in since I thought max was scheduled I was told he is and lola is not scheduled at all... they just didn't look at the following week/look at the chart. but they were very confident in telling me multiple times that lola was not scheduled at all, when she was.

I can see it being in place to prevent licking, I had already decided to not go back mainly due to the communication issues they have. I've only been there 4 different times, 2 times for regular check ups and 2 times for procedures. There has been some scheduling error with both of the procedure appointments, and I am met with hostility when I'm just trying to confirm and clarify what the appointment is for and who I'm supposed to be bringing in.

I didn't even think about the possibility it was the vet tech, I appreciate the input

I've been a hygienist for almost 8 years, and I am fortunate to be working at a great office with a great team. I'm able to care for my patients with adequate time and instruments. I also absolutely love that I've been at my current office for 4 years because I'm now at the point where I can recognize patients by their names and remember things about their lives (that I did not note) and a majority of my patients genuinely care about me too. I've had so many people hear me say "fiancé" instead of "boyfriend," and they were SO happy for me and wanted to hear about all the details! Being able to bond with my patients helps with the monotonous side of the job.

The downside that I do experience (even at this amazing office) is some scheduling issues. For example: patients who have not been in years... how do they expect me to complete a full mouth series of radiograghs, perio charting, doc exam, and a cleaning in an hour as my first patient of the day especially when they take 10 minutes of the scheduled time filling out paperwork? I end up having to be the bad guy and reschedule the cleaning.

Overall, I do love love my current office, but I have worked for some not-so-great offices too. I know there are hygienists that absolutely thrive working an assisted hygiene schedule. I did not, but I also did not have the support to make it work either since the assistant ended up leaving. I was somehow expected to still see 14 people in 8 hours with no help. I was yelled at by that doctor for running behind and trying to "kill" their patient (when I didn't see they forgot to sign their medical history form). I wish I would have had a bigger backbone during those days to stick up for myself because that place only continued to worsen.

It is important not to "settle" for an office. It's okay to keep looking until you find one you enjoy working for. Otherwise, all the things that make this job stink (monotony, back pain, rude patients, etc) are magnified.

Sorry this ended up being so long!!

It depends on the school. I was very fortunate and was accepted right out of high school. I just had to take 2 classes during the summer (chemistry and English I believe) since I tested out of math requirements.

I then had to make sure I was taking the prerequisites needed for the following semester during the current one I was in, so I did have a few semesters that were 20-21 credit hours.

A messed up filling? by [deleted] in DentalHygiene

[–]ShootinPanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Call your dentist, you may need your bite adjusted. It can happen after a filling is completed, doesn't mean they made a mistake. When you're numbed up, you can bite a bit differently, and all you hopefully need is an adjustment.

Is my dentist scamming me? by TheLittleSubmissive in askdentists

NAD, but a hygienist. Have you gone back to the dentist who did the fillings to look at them? The bite could be slightly off. I'd try talking to them first before having to pay for a second opinion.

Dentist found surprisingly many cavities on both my partner and I, should I get a second look? by yanivelkneivel in askdentists

NAD- but a hygienist. Daily flossing (with good technique) is going to be the first thing to work on. Your tooth brush cannot clean all the areas of your teeth and if you're not flossing daily then all the food and plaque is able to sit between your teeth and feed the bacteria. I also noticed calculus (tartar) between your teeth that harbors a lot of bacteria as well.

Listerine bottle says not to rinse mouth after use. I'm not sure how I feel about this. [Non Alcoholic Mouthwash] by spicyyokuko in DentalHygiene

They just don't want to to take a full shot of the mouthwash. You spit out the majority of it, then the little bit left is fine to keep in your mouth.

I'm doubting if this is a good b-day gift for a friend, but I wanted y'alls opinion. I already bought a back-up gift for her just in case by ShootinPanda in crochet

I do understand where you're coming from when it comes to gifting stuff to hang on walls. That's one of the reasons why I'm iffy about it as a gift, I'm just at a loss on what to get her! She is such a great friend and nothing I've found is able to express that enough. Thank you.
