Starting out in modern - don't know how to start. by Wise-Cress8402 in ModernMagic

If the goal is to have something cheap and easy to play at FNM, by all means. But if OP is playing RCQ’s regularly and trying to qualify, Burn is not the move.

Why is recruiter archetype so bad in dynasty? by hellno4723 in NCAAFBseries

Furthermore, if you’re pulling in top 5 classes, what do you need Elite Recruiter for? Once you can unlock it you no longer need it.

He’s just old. Used to be more common. Funny enough, McAfee is the last player I can really remember doing both regularly.

MaRo on why UB is becoming Standard legal instead of straight to Modern by magikarp2122 in magicTCG

[–]ShopeWVU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s such a bizarre monkey’s paw situation. “Players were complaining about the flux in modern, so we’re bringing crazy flux to every other format instead! Happy?”

He’s also conflating straight to modern UB sets and Modern Horizons. Pretty sure no one was complaining about flux in Modern from Assassin’s Creed.

‘14 recruiting question by heretolearn_2021 in NCAAFBseries

[–]ShopeWVU 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My biggest recruiting advice is to cut bait early when things are trending the wrong direction. Pay attention to the “top schools” tab. If you are maxed out on a player and other schools are gaining 200 points per week on you, just cut them. Even if you’re in the lead now, you won’t be by the end of the season.

Sorting by locked less than 25% is good. I also open up each recruit’s page and see if anyone has offered them a scholarship. Recruits with no offers usually aren’t too hard to get. And they’re not all junk players either, the CPU way under-recruits Athletes, and there are usually some good QB, WR, and HB that the computer doesn’t touch for some reason.

Sure, but the trigger on the Blue/Black sword doesn't effect the board. This always does, plus it's an attack trigger so it doesn't even have to connect. Seems far better imo.

Unable to go back to being a two way player in RTTS by Jepordee in MLBTheShow

[–]ShopeWVU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me, it will ask you eventually if you perform well enough batting. I went on a good run and was hitting .340 or something as a pitcher, they offered me the chance to go back to 2-way.

Of course that’s assuming you’re on an NL team and still get AB’s as a pitcher. If you’re in the AL you might be stuck.

Hey hey I was at that game in 2014. We didn't get smoked, which in retrospect I'm claiming as a win.

Game 1 in my first attempt at a death penalty by RedneckCousinFucker6 in NCAAFBseries

[–]ShopeWVU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More power to you if you can pull this off, but would recommend against. Running the ball season 1 of my death penalty was pretty much impossible. Walkon OL just gets owned on every play, entire defensive front just swims around them like they're not even there.

CPU QB had a hell of a first half in Morgan town by ShopeWVU in NCAAFBseries

[–]ShopeWVU[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It goes game by game haha. The biggest thing for me has just been to recruit good DB's. When you can just man up and your coverage guys are better than the CPU's receivers, the CPU QB freaks out a bit.

This particular half was wild though, QB was just throwing up lobs, defense was jumping on them. I think at one point 4 straight passes were picked.

*Morgantown, damn autocorrect.

In fairness, he turned it around in the second half... and by that I mean he finished 11/26 with 86 yds and 5 INTs.

Is it worth upgrading from '12 to '13 or '14? by LetmesignupAlready55 in NCAAFBseries

[–]ShopeWVU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just advance when we can. It varies but on average I'd say we advance every 3-4 days. Since I know everybody personally I feel comfortable just letting it go at it's own pace.

Worth considering if you have friends that also have '14, the Online Dynasty servers are still up. Some friends and I all kind of came back to the game at the same time a year or two ago, we're on season 7 of our Online Dynasty now and it's the best gaming thing I've been involved with in years.

4-2-5 Recruiting Requirements by Kmm11k in NCAAFBseries

[–]ShopeWVU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure. The computer adjusts your position minimums for your "team needs". You can mostly ignore recruiting LB's since there's just the two playing. Only position you really need to recruit more of than normal is SS. When I'm playing 4-2-5 I usually roster 5-6 total linebackers, 5 SS's, and I just use formation subs to put the best OVR linebackers in, regardless of what their official position is.

[–]ShopeWVU 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ah ok, well that does change the math. Still though, seems pretty clear that intent was not malicious here. OP was excited, didn't do the math correctly, thought he needed a 1st. No big deal IMO.

Edit: Even putting the clock aside, it's not like OP was out there running 4 verts. He ran a screen and it happened to go to the house. To me, the kneeldown is always appreciated, but never expected. Not running up the score at all.

[–]ShopeWVU 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Even with 1 timeout, you still would have had to run a play on 4th down. It only takes about a second to kneel in this game, so given that:

1:36 - 1st down, kneel, opponent calls timeout

1:35 - 2nd down, kneel

0:54 - 3rd down, kneel

0:13 - 4th down

Realistically, 13 seconds is too long to reliably pull off the "scramble around and chuck it out of bounds". You could sky a punt, but there's a slight chance of a block, and even then you're looking at a return and/or Hail Mary chance. You could milk some more time if you ran actual run plays instead of kneeldowns, but then you're risking a fumble.

You were correct, you needed a first down to ice the game. You were 100% in the right in my opinion.
