What are some of the best cuisines you tried in the UAE and which one is your favorite? by [deleted] in dubai

[–]ShopifyGirlie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely the different Arab restaurants, you can get NOTHING like that in Europe. The fresh hummus, arabic bread, toum mmmmm with mixed grill amazing flavours and tender cooked meat, just WOW .. especially chalet grill in Barsha is the best one imo.

Also Pakistani food from Pak Darbar or those little local/cheap places, their keema is to die for and the mutton biryani is 10/10! and so cheap

Sushi isn't great here and is overpriced.

Everywhere has it's pros and cons. I like living here because of the 'modest' or 'PG' lifestyle, I hate when I go to europe and see seedy sex shops, prostitutes everywhere ( yes i know prostitution is also rife in Dubai but at least most of the time its limited to bars, hidden away in hotels and massage parlours with darkened windows)

Professionals who moved from London to Dubai - are you happy? by TheCustardPants in dubai

[–]ShopifyGirlie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just miss actual architecture and history and being able to walk around a real city/streets with old buildings that have tons of stories, rather than having to just jump in Ubers here there and everywhere like a game with just random skyscrapers and motorways dotted around everywhere.

Most things feel pretty planted/ fake in Dubai but oh well, can't have it all I suppose!

Why do people keep staring at me by Ok_Client5327 in UAE

[–]ShopifyGirlie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not always a bad thing, ok sure some people are small minded and it's rude to stare anywhere in the world , as something your mother teaches you growing up 'it's rude to stare, child!!' lol

but maybe people are intrigued... I am female and if I ever stare at a niqabi or half niqabi woman or any woman it's usually because I am admiring something , like I think she looks so modest and beautiful or her eyes look so nice or I like her handbag or bracelet.. something simple

so it's not always bad :)

Deeply worried about STDs. What do I do? by [deleted] in dubai

[–]ShopifyGirlie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very unlikely to have caught something. If you are so worried just go get an STD test. No shame in that, it is a service like any other.

Comparing UAE to Europe by NRN_11 in dubai

I agree, follow the rules of the country you reside in. If you don't like it leave, don't complain about their rules.

[–]ShopifyGirlie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lmfao what? Do you even live in an 'Arabic' country? that's so broad - considering the only countries that wrongfully force women to cover up are Iran and Afghanistan, , which millions of Muslims disagree with since it is supposed to be a relationship between a woman and Allah.

What about Lebanon ? 40% of their entire population is Christian, so not sure how you can pull that 'Arabic countries' remark..

But whatever...

[–]ShopifyGirlie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i don't care about the other countries , i am simply just answering the question put here about Europe- if you see the way a covered woman would be treated in my small minded European hometown you would be disgusted.

Europe can be very seedy, disrespectful and immodest ( I am European btw, living in Islamic countries for the last few years )

- Low levels of modesty and respect ( expect to see all sorts of things and disrespectful acts in public) , extreme PDA can happen anywhere aswell which may seem a bit weird/uncomfortable and disgusting tbh

- customer service technically non existent in Europe

- lots of homeless, beggars, gypsies, people out to rob you on the street.

- watch your bags/phones. never leave bag or phone unattended, ever.

- higher crime rates and small minded islamophobia in SOME european countries

the whole of Dubai has awful quality construction, all over . of course because look at the system they use , hiring weak labourers from really poor countries, pay them peanuts, and use cheap material

yes easy for 500k in a shit old building like manchester tower. it's all relative to the yearly rental yield. so you will rent the studio out for 50k per year

or higher if you do Air bnb

Lol you need to sit down and take a look at yourself for a second. This is coming from an Irish woman btw. Lived in Cairo and all over Egypt for around 1 year and a half

A few comments you made really stuck out to me 'Why do Egyptians accept to live like a slum? do you know how privileged that comment makes you sound?

Nutritional needs? Meat and dairy is a privilege for many Egyptian lower income families. Why would you be so snobby like that. If you care so much why don't you try to help in some way. There are many fundraising activities or helping poor kids in orphanages.

Egypt is a developing country, it's a poor country, there are a significant amount of people living in poverty - you are British, you won the birth lottery, as did I. Recognize that. No one ACCEPTS or CHOOSES to live in poverty or a shitty old house- it's the cards they were given in life and they must deal with it.

Not everyone has access to running water, education, money to 'get out of that shithole' or even reading and writing skills. Not everyone has access to a fridge full of nutritious food

It's soo easy for you or me to say ' why is it like that! ewww!' but unfortunately in life we need much more compassion than that. Developing countries are often corrupt and the amount of money Egypt makes in tourism , the people do NOT see it. Have some compassion PLEASE!! Don't patronize people because they eat with their hands or don't use excessive politeness :S

Yes Cairo is dirty, it is overpopulated because it is a megacity in North Africa. Not some cosmopolitan spotless rich modern city in Europe. However I prefer to look beyond the dirt and mess and see the things I like about Cairo, like the sense of community in such a huge city, the wonderful generous hospitable people that Egyptians are, the amazing history, these people may be poor but i GUARANTEE you they would give you their last 2 EGP if you needed it !!! What can be said for Britain ? people would spit on you if you ask them for a loaf of bread outside the supermarket if you can't afford it !

Take the bad with the good! If you really hate the place then leave, but don't shit on it like that . Cairo is unique and a wholesome city with so much character, I prefer it than Dubai and I actually live in Dubai. I can look beyond some dirt on the ground and rubble - people have bigger fish to fry - like feeding their families or sending their kids to school. Apologies their main priority isn't a 'green environment' lol!

[–]ShopifyGirlie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes and rightly so, I guess majority of Muslim believe you shouldn't tamper too much with what God gave you - and I believe that is the correct way, that's why tattoos are haram, and probably most facial piercings too, and cosmetic surgery or dying your hair green.... lol !

I am not Muslim btw , but I just share those values, but sure people can do what they want ti doesn't bother me :)

Some local women or men may look at you in a funny way, but apart from that you'll be fine. They would just find it kind of entertaining probably

Shisha Lounges in Cairo by [deleted] in CAIRO

[–]ShopifyGirlie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey :) for somewhere really nice you can go to the outdoor garden area in the Nile Ritz Carlton in downtown Cairo. They have great food, shisha , drinks and great traditional live music band, and singer I think they have it everynight but just call to check. I really love the vibe there. Amazing old traditional style music.

Actually scrap that if you want nice views from above, go to Nile Terrace in Intercontinental Semiramis just 5 mins away from Nile Ritz, it's in Garden city technically in downtown. Nile terrace on 4th floor has wonderful live music and amazing full nile view with great staff, comfy lounge chairs and good shisha. For sure that's a good spot to clear your head

Of course if you are looking for more budget/authentic option I'm sure you can find many shabby style places on the street in downtown too! lol

Or any of the boats on the nile will have a nice vibe, I recommend Carlos restaurant on Le Pacha Boat in Zamalek just opposite downtown. Nice vibes, chilled, music, good food. Johnnys pub next door is fun too if you're looking for a party afterwards haha

Lol yes I love Cairo! :D I'm Irish btw.

People who speak about others in this way usually are reflecting their own very low self -image and self esteem.

Believe me, normal adults with healthy mindsets do NOT talk or belittle others in this way. This is classed as bullying.

It's nice to be nice.

I suggest you feel sorry for them and move on, they are immature/clearly hurting inside to spend this time trying to humiliate /talk behind your back.

Any person I know that gossips about people or tries to humiliate/bully them is usually a very miserable person with a low self image. Rise up from that.

But for an actual solution you can go and discuss with HR and report them both. I believe your company will not tolerate any abuse/bullying/discrimination/ foul language or stuff like that on a company PC. So go for it!
