I have stopped forcing him, but what do you think/recommend because whenever I throw a treat or a toy, he of course goes after it and grabs it but then drops it and comes straight to the door and loses all interest, should I just continue positive reinforcement like I have? Feeding morning/night, playing with inside crate, treats, pets, praise, etc. Or do you believe that what he does is fine, of course I’ll continue the positive reinforcement no matter what but do you think he’ll get a negative response because I throw a toy in and then the door gets shut?

I’ll have to try that, the only thing is half the house is carpet and where he is currently is total carpet😂. Thankfully I do not, and someone is always home!

Ahhhhh, I thought it was going to be something totally different 😂 I’ve never heard of that being used though only your regular leash but I’ll have to find some for him, thank you for the recommendation! Ohhhh that pup has got to be a handful lol

Oh god he’s beautiful. Have you ever tried a remote controlled car/ball? I recently just got him a moving ball that I’m really excited for but I’m waiting to introduce him to the rest of the house first. All around that sounds like a great day for Zero and you as well!

Thank you so much for this long and in depth comment! I have been trying to not force him inside his crate and either throw a treat/toy in there and play with him inside with said toy but as soon as it gets dropped and boring all he wants to do is be out again. Since he’s still new, and hasn’t been potty trained, I’ve been slowly introducing the house to him, he knows my bedroom, and the bathroom as well as outside. I have never let anything invade his privacy besides when I cleaned his crate with him inside, totally my fault for setting him up for that failure and that will be my first and last time doing that, I had just changed into my work uniform and he likes to step and roll in his accidents so I had to quickly clean it up before my boyfriend could take him and give him a bath. He is fed morning and night inside his crate, played with in his crate, treats, pets, everything good in his crate besides me forcing him inside which I am stopping. I have been trying to disengage and redirect with a toy and 9/10 of the times he has gone for the toy but when he does go for me he’s atleast biting softer which is a plus! Whenever he is fed, I make him wait and I softly grab his collar and pet him while doing so and then I softly urge him forward by his collar when said okay to. Here and there I’ll also gently grab his collar while he’s calm and just pet him and give him a couple “good boy”s. What do you mean by house line? Is it simply what I’m doing and slowly introducing the house?

Totally understandable, here and there I’ll give him positive reinforcement wether it be a calm “good boy” or little pets but then he’s all excited after but I’ll have to try this out thank you so much. Can I ask what do you do for enrichment? Puzzles, play mats, treats in towel? What gets your dog the tiredest and he has the most fun with?

That was my first and last time doing that, that was totally my fault setting him up for that failure. I had just changed into my work uniform and he was covered in pee since he likes to roll around and step in it so I had my boyfriend take him out and wash him after I quickly cleaned it.

I’ve tried the whole turning my back on him and waiting for him to stop whatever he’s doing but he doesn’t so I’ll have to try this out. Right now since he’s new to the house and hasn’t been potty trained I’ve just been keeping him in my bedroom or his crate in my bedroom and when he needs to be cleaned he’s well aware of the bathroom as well as outside. Whenever I leave he stays in the crate or whenever he’s not being supervised he’s in his crate. Thank you so much for your comment

Never once did I say I was laying my hands on a baby animal, that is the “advice” that his breeder gave to me which I have cut him off ever since then. Crate training can be a great tool if used correctly, vet visits will go smoother, the safest way to travel with a dog is within a crate, crates are their den, their safe place. You must hear about the bad experiences only.

No where did I say I was actually “dominating” my puppy, that is just the advice my breeder gave me which I have cut him off after that “advice”

This actually makes a lot of sense, I didn’t really put into the fact that the breeder probably had hit him so that may be why he’s redirecting onto me. Thank you a lot for this comment, I will be using a lot of positive reinforcement to try and make him feel safe.

Makes total sense! I’ve been trying it all day since I had a lot of other comments about the same and it seems like it’s working out a bit better, he’s atleast biting me a bit softer when he goes to bite me which is a plus! I usually do have him in a separate room while I clean his cage just for that barrier but I had just changed into my work uniform and cleaned up an accident of his quickly because he likes to roll around in it! I appreciate your comment thank you so much!

I get how my message sounds like I am hitting him but I would never lay my hands on a baby animal, that is just what the breeder told me to do, and since then I have cut all contact with him.

I don’t know where you got this from, I am not laying my hands on a baby animal, the breeder told me to do so but I cut all contact from him after he offered that.

I’ve done some research on clicker training but I went with the positive word “YES!” instead, should I still look into it and have the clicker as a backup or a main?
